What a great way to spread the word about Project 25.
I mean, who doesn’t have 20 minutes to watch John Oliver if a friend raves about it, and sends the link?
It’s a lengthy clip but it highlights what you need to know about Project 2025…their authoritarian playbook to eliminate anything that held Trump in check during his first term.

PSA: I will be checking this thread and yesterday’s NC fundraising thread for matching donations. We have $850 of last night’s new angel match left. The thermometer is in the sidebar at the top and at the bottom. The link is also in the mobile menu.
Update at 7 pm.
Okay, that completes that match.
But a lurker came forward offering a match, so we are starting a new $1,000 match right now. Up to $100 per person, add a comment or send me an email message in order to be matched.
Thank you, Total Lurker!!!
Baud
This post just showed up in between two other posts. People may miss it.
WaterGirl
@Baud: Yeah I figured that out as soon as I did it – fucking time zones, how do they work? I almost always remember to add the hour when putting up a post – emphasis on almost.
I pulled it when I saw Anne Laurie’s post at the top.
Anonymous At Work
Any chance to get a YouTube link rather than a soon-to-be-Musk-porn-service clip?
kindness
I love John Oliver. This show was preaching to my choir as I’m already all too familiar with the roadmap to America’s next Reich. Kudos to John for doing it though. Needs being repeated.
TBone
I got huge heart emojis in response to texting out this John Oliver clip yesterday. I had combined it with the Bishop Bullwinkle song “Hell to Da Naw Naw Naw!” Which I’m still enamored by 😍🎶

There are some Folks that have list the plotline. As in, gone around the bend.
Authoritarian governments are fun and giggles while they last but generally end unhappily for the Authoritarians.
Urza
Need to get anyone the youngs will listen to talking about this and the consequences for them.
WaterGirl
@Anonymous At Work: I looked for a youtube link last night and the only youtube link for this that i could get to required me to sign up for a FREE test drive of MAX. um, no!
I know think that his used to show up on youtube on Thursdays, but I had started the post yesterday and then ran into the MAX issue. So when I saw the full episode today in a twitter post, I went for it.
But if you have found a free YouTube version, I will add it to the post in a heartbeat!
(I had started a post yesterday on Biden’s executive order, and then I see that Anne Laurie put up a post about that this morning. Feast or famine, no posts or two posts, all or nothing, I guess!)
WaterGirl
@kindness: Yeah, that’s why i led with sharing the piece with friends and family. They may have no clue what Project 2025 is, and it seems to me that John Oliver is a good entree to that for those folks.
WaterGirl
@Urza:
Yes!
Urza
@Dangerman: In the long run maybe its bad for the authoritarians. That long run takes a long time and alot of people are hurt along the way. And if it lasts more than a couple years the brainwashing and deaths remove the populations ability to think outside that system, creating problems when a new system needs to be put in place. Not even counting those that fight to keep the old system.

@Dangerman:
North Korea’s has held on for quite a long time. China’s seems to be getting worse. Russia just got back on that authoritarianism horse. And authoritarian monarchies were the global norm for most of civilization.
Everything ends eventually.
Liberal democracy may yet turn out to have been a fleeting flash in the pan, an innovation of more or less the 20th century that couldn’t last because they tend to tear themselves apart by willfully ceding power to those who want to end them.

@WaterGirl:
I just donated $50 to the NC angel match.
Citizen Scientist
In for $35 to our friends in NC.
WaterGirl
@Memory Pallas: @Citizen Scientist:
Got ’em! Thank you both!
SiubhanDuinne
WG, I’ve donated $50 but it’s in two separate tranches of $25 each. Hope that doesn’t confuse the bookkeeping.
It’s a terrific initiative! Are we going to have a Zoom call with the NC folks?
Also, while I don’t watch John Oliver very often, I think that 20-minute clip is excellent. I’ll be sharing it.

WaterGirl
@SiubhanDuinne: You’re all good with the $50!
Yes, we are talking with them about a zoom! I will try to move that along if I can.
prostratedragon
I just donated $50. Temperature needs to rise!
Coyoteville
I just donated $55.

Mom Says I*m Handsome
John Oliver is a treasure. Every Monday (when his show is available on streaming) I ask the missus, “Are you ready to be yelled at by the Englishman?” She sighs, but always says Yes. We always learn so much — nearly always it’s much worse than we knew — but the show usually manages to finish the big story with a positive note about what can be done.
sab
I just donated $50.

Halfway to the $1,000 match!

I think I just pitched in $100. Yup! I did it on my phone so it was a little different, but I got the confirmation email.

Donated $50 to NC match.
WaterGirl
@brooklyndodger: Got it, thank you!

Think it’s possible to create a list of the names of all of the individuals cited in the Project 2025 report? Might be useful someday for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission that’s established to sort out the wreckage that’s been created here.
Rose Weiss
@WaterGirl: I put in $50. NC could be important in this election. I live in Oregon, and although my own county is blood red, the state is deep blue thanks to Portland and Eugene.
JeanneT
@WaterGirl: I just dropped $50 in the kitty for the NC work.
frosty
I just donated $50 in honor of my parents who moved to The People’s Republic of Chapel Hill when they were a bit younger than I am now.
greengoblin
Hey Watergirl! I just added $100.00. Hope I am not too late for the match.
WaterGirl
@Rose Weiss: Thank you for that!
WaterGirl
@JeanneT: Thank you!
@frosty: Here’s to your parents!
@greengoblin: Not too late for the match

If there’s any Angel match funds left, I just donated $25.
Matt McIrvin
In for $50.

@StringOnAStick: Yes! We just started a $1,000 Angel match from Total Lurker!
@Matt McIrvin: Thank you!
You two are the first donations toward the new Angel match!
