Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The real work of an opposition party is to oppose.

Disagreements are healthy; personal attacks are not.

This must be what justice looks like, not vengeful, just peaceful exuberance.

I don’t recall signing up for living in a dystopian sci-fi novel.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

Every decision we make has lots of baggage with it, known or unknown.

Of course you can have champagne before noon. That’s why orange juice was invented.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

Dear elected officials: Trump is temporary, dishonor is forever.

Those who are easily outraged are easily manipulated.

When tyranny becomes law, rebellion becomes duty. ~Thomas Jefferson

If you cannot answer whether trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

Today in our ongoing national embarrassment…

Since we are repeating ourselves, let me just say fuck that.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

Trump’s cabinet: like a magic 8 ball that only gives wrong answers.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

Probably, but I’ll add that Lazio appeared with Mitch McConnell, Dick Armey, Jennifer Graholm, Katty Kay, Paul Gigot and Jeffrey Goldberg.

Rick Lazio may be against it, but at least they can count on Chuck Schumer and Anthony Weiner speaking up for religious freedom.

    Oh…oops.

I found an interesting article on the simultaneous demonstrations being held in Manhattan today in The Guardian. Rather informative.

On the other hand, the NYT seems to be assiduously ignoring both events. Hmmm.

The Guardian article said that the leaders of the project to build the community center, while on Amanpour’s show, said that they might be willing to think about building it somewhere else.

The Guardian article did not mention David Gregory’s show.

That lineup on MTP is the reason I haven’t watched that program in years, and affirms my hatred of David Gregory.

I know that Jeff Goldberg has major failings, but I would just say that he has consistently defended the community center in strong terms, and really attacked those who have painted it with a terrorist brush. I DID NOT see him on Gregory’s show today, however, so I am not sure if that is still true.

The Bobblespeak translation should be the only mention of the dumbfucked-up-edness that is Fluffy.

Gregory: I loved that war – rick can we go back?
    __
Lazio: absolutely – but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t start other new, fun wars
    __
    Gregory: I like it
    __
Lazio: we left this epic disaster with honor
    __
Kay: while Gigot does the touchdown end zone dance it’s worth remembering that this was a war based on lies costing billions and thousands of lives and was almost a total failure
    __
Gregory: sure but other than that it was great

I can’t blame those behind the project for now being willing to consider the possibility of moving it. After all, with the level of hatred being whipped up by the right-wing noise machine’s campaign of misinformation, it’s likely there’ll be some sort of violence against people at Cordoba House before long.

That doesn’t mean it’s acceptable for *other* people to advise them that they should move. And it certainly doesn’t make the appeals to “sensitivity” any less anti-Muslim.

And of course if they do end up moving, then there’s no way to spin it as anything other than caving in to bigots, and the fact that it was necessary would say something very bad about the state of our country.

Why Dick Armey has any credibility with anyone is beyond me (c.f., Newt Gingrich). They were discredited, they remain discredited, and they are horrible, horrible human beings. Next up, on Meet The Press, Tom DeLay to talk about tax cuts!

Consider his competition for the GOP nomination for NY governor, and he’s a paragon by default.

Is there some magical alternative media somewhere out there that is better? More objective?

Yeah, MTP sucks, but political kabuki abounds everywhere. Worse, wingnuts yearn to be comforted by the soft murmur of lies and scapegoating. And they get whiney and cranky if they miss their regular feedings, which is why Beck, Limbaugh and their gang continue to appeal to them.

Weiner is usually pretty nutty when it comes to anything to do with Pal/Israel but I think here he didn’t want to cross Bloomberg. So he just shut up.

Linda, the NYT’s had some version of this up since at least two this afternoon. The “Sharia Sharia Sharia” (say it soft and it’s almost like praying) photo was the first thing I saw on their website for several hours.

The Guardian article said that the leaders of the project to build the community center, while on Amanpour’s show, said that they might be willing to think about building it somewhere else.

But do they really think that would silence the “controversy”? People in TN, KY and CA are protesting mosques that are being built in those respective states. So, let’s assume they build it elsewhere; is there any doubt that people will start protesting their new location?

And, oh by the way, there already is a mosque four blocks from Ground Zero. It has been there at least since 911. Why has that one been OK?
