Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

Every decision we make has lots of baggage with it, known or unknown.

The willow is too close to the house.

Giving in to doom is how authoritarians win.

In after Baud. Damn.

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

Trump should be leading, not lying.

Fundamental belief of white supremacy: white people are presumed innocent, minorities are presumed guilty.

T R E 4 5 O N

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

Balloon Juice, where there is always someone who will say you’re doing it wrong.

Sometimes the world just tells you your cat is here.

Fucking consultants! (of the political variety)

Text STOP to opt out of updates on war plans.

I’m starting to think Jesus may have made a mistake saving people with no questions asked.

Giving up is unforgivable.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

When we show up, we win.

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

Fight for a just cause, love your fellow man, live a good life.

Grab your anodynes of choice, kiddies, because Ken Layne at Wonkette has assembled a compilation of “One Hundred Years of ReaganTube” that is too good not to share, painful though it is to those of us who had to live through the original era:

Oh can you believe it was only a hundred years ago when Ronald Reagan was born? Which side of the Civil War did he fight on, anyway? (Answer: He didn’t fight at all, but he was an extra at the Ford Theater the night Lincoln was shot, and later claimed to have played the role of Robert E. Lee in James Joyce’s movie Ulysses S. Grant.) Oh, also, back in the 1980s when Ronald Reagan was actually serving as president in some weird state of constant incapacitation? Everybody thought he was a moron. Most Republicans didn’t even support him during the regular lows of his disastrous two terms. He also didn’t defeat the Soviet Union — they ran out of money on their own, just like we’ve done here in America in the past 10 years, in the exact same Central Asian country. But Ronald Reagan did delight America with his constant, idiotic appearances on film and television. Let’s remember the empty suit who led us to a Promised Land of Fox News, Tax Cuts for Multi-Billionaires and the deliberate dismantling of what had been the world’s smartest, most prosperous society in the History of the World…

Be grateful you’re getting this warning: there’s a swimsuit shot. On the other hand, the Wonkette commentariat may be second only for high-quality snark behind some blog with a rotating tag line, so you’ve got that to look forward to.

Repeated so I can be near the top.

OT but I know you guys are suckers for doggies. A neighbor of mine found an unneutered male pit wandering the streets of Heights, Houston the other night. His wife took the poor guy in from the cold, but they can’t keep him. All of the no kill shelters in Houston are full, and the SPCA here usually kills pits on arrival. He has a chip, his shots, and was trained at some point, but obviously his owners failed to build on it. The city has no record of him, and the number with the chip is disconnected. Here is a pic of the guy.

If anyone in Southeast Texas can give a pit bull a home let me know at an edited version of this address.

That just might be the funniest thing I’ve ever read.

On a more pleasant note (more amusing, anyhow) Malawi has banned farting in public.

I just finished Limbo, one of the darker video games I’ve ever played. At least, I think it was dark, I actually have no fucking clue what the story was supposed to be. All I know was I was a little boy who suffered multiple gruesome deaths until I was reunited with my dead sister or something. It’s like a video game made by Ingmar Bergman.

But at least I could get through nearly all of it without going to the Internet for clues, unlike the other arty platformer from xbox: Braid. “Now stand on that green turd, use you go-back-in-time-power, and jump on that bunny’s head from the beginning of the level.”

    @Amir_Khalid:
That’s almost as good as banning cigarettes.
The only problem I see is explained by a short verse that I remember from childhood.
He who smelt it dealt it. So we’d have to turn ourselves in? The conservatives here are already working on no sex for women without available, willing, deposited swimmers. At some point do we just outlaw all bodily functions? It would however reduce health care costs. Actually that’s how conservative business works. Cut functionality (employees), cut costs, profit. Really they just have one crappy idea don’t they?

Damn. That was a beauty of a roundup, for an ugly, destructive presidency. After hearing some Reagan hagiography earlier today, it’s been refreshing to hear some honest discussion of him.

Speaking of Reagan, I LOVE what Mike Stark did to Rush “Oxycontin” Limbaugh over “that Librul Commie Reagan” who expanded government, raised taxes, and negotiated with terrorists.

Meh. The whole “Reagan + 100 Years” crap is already old news.

Instead, I’m looking forward to what insane horseshit the media will roll out starting in April to mark the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War.

TIME magazine will probably lead the charge will a cover about “Should the Confederacy Have Won the War?” with helpful input from George Will, Jonah Goldberg, and rest of the usual gang of right-wing hacks.

@Mike in NC: If you’re in the Spartanburg, S.C. area on the 26th of March there’s this fete to start off the festivities. Notice where it’s being held. I can remember when that particular org got all upset when DFHs burned the American flag. Apparently firing on it is AOK.

    @Arclite:

I didn’t listen to the actual clip but the transcript segment was a thing of beauty.

First Rush tried to deflect, then he tried to spin it as some leftist-Media Matters-Soros-esque conspiracy to tarnish Reagan’s good name, then he tried to make it about Obama(!)

The fact that Rush Limbaugh isn’t regularly turned into a pile of gibbering goo by guests like that is just a sign of how shitty a job the Democrats are doing of controlling the discourse. “I can’t believe we’re losing to these assholes” indeed.
