This is too rich. Apparently, Cindy Sheehan wrote a diary (since deleted) using or comparing her situation to the “Trail of Tears,” and a diarist named StarkRavingLunaticRadical posted a long diary taking her to task- “How Dare You, Cindy Sheehan?”:
Well, I actually had something else in store for this National Day of Mourning y’all call Thanksgiving. And really, my intent was to be sweet as bread pudding and fresh as the frost on the pumpkins. Then I read Cindy Sheehan’s diary, and well…. what came out of the oven was yet another rant.
Dear Cindy,
I do not know how to begin. Perhaps I should start with a picture. You see the person on with the sign that says MEET WITH CINDY? Yeah. That’s me. They say a picture is worth 1,000 words, but just in case, here are the words to go with the picture, from an article expressing my appreciation for all that you do. I trust that you received the flowers I sent for the crosses after they were desecrated, and the small token of financial support I sent to the Crawford Peace House in appreciation, and in memory of your son. I cannot imagine your sorrow and applaud you for what you have done with that pain. I am moved by your commitment to the cause of peace and to this country. By God, I cannot thank you enough!
As I sit down this evening, knowing it’s probably not a good thing for me, as a person of American Indian descent, to so much as open this Pandora’ box on the eve of what is a “holiday” for mainstream America, but what for me and my people is a day of mourning-commemorating the sacrifices our people have made–the loss of our lifeways, our languages, our families, our ceremonies, above all, our lands–so that your people may continue to occupy these territories (in many cases, illegally, with centuries of your governments support) if not in peace, then at least in relative prosperity, I do not know how to express my own grief, and, now–having made the mistake of reading your diary–my outrage. I ask that you sit down now and listen to me–to my grief, my outrage, and my pain which, tonight, is directed to you (hang on, I’ll get to what you did to twist the knife in my side).
It goes on and on, and Cindy is forced to apologize:
i am sorry the last thing i would ever want to do was to cause any more pain in this world. i will continue to fight the injustice of this war with all my heart and soul. thank you all for being there for me all these months. god’s blessings to you all. or may the universe bless you. or whomever you want to bless you…i hope you are blessed.
For those of you keeping score at home, the plight of Native Americans seems to trump the ‘absolute moral authority’ of ‘just a grieving mother.’
Turkeys nationwide are still coming up short today, though, with only a few rare exceptions.

Well, if the Cherokees had been feted by the media while their most hateful statements went unpreported (anywhere but the blogosphere) and then later got a book deal out of it, the comparison would have been closer.
But have a Happy Thanksgiving anyway, Cindy.
Lauren
Poor turkeys.

Gah. Yeah, that was sad, and I guess I shouldn’t be surprised to see you pimping it here. I didn’t get a chance to read Cindy’s original diary, and it’s a shame, because all the comments up until “starkravinglunaticradical”‘s comments constituted a tremendous outpouring of support and goodwill–quite appropriate for Thanksgiving, and something that I don’t see at all evident in your post, or your continued, inexplicable compulsion to stalk and mock Cindy Sheehan online.

Things that drive Cole insane:
1. Cindy Sheehan
2. Daily KOs
3. Talk about White Phosphorous
Policy makers that manipulate intelligence to send us into war: Not so much.
Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving.
John Cole
Actually, it looks like this:
1.) Pretending Cindy Sheehan can say whatever she wants and we are not allowed to question her statements because she has ‘absolute moral authority.’
2.) Daily Kos lying about our troops using chemical weapons on civilians and enemy combatants, and lying about whether WP is a chemical weapon or not.
3.) Dry turkey, which is why I am watching over my turkey like Michael Jackson protects his kids.
In hindsight, I think Cheney et. al. overstated the case for war- but I think they honestly believed that Saddam had WMD and was a threat. I don’t attribute to them the evil motives you all do, and I remember that intelligence is subjective and that those advocating military action are of course going to put forth the best case for their proposed course of action.

It’s worth reviewing some of the things that this useless piece of flotsam said this past summer: “The neocons deliberately allowed the terrorist attacks of 9/11.” American soldiers are “being sent to kill innocent people” in Iraq. Her son, Casey Sheehan, “died for oil” and was “murdered” by President Bush. The United States is “not worth dying for.” The president, who “stole the election,” is part of the “Bush crime family,” a “lying bastard,” a “fXXX,” a “filth spewer,” “the biggest terrorist in the world,” and an “evil maniac” who is guilty of “blatant genocide.” Sheehan also compared Lynne Stewart, the radical lawyer convicted of aiding terrorists, to Atticus Finch, the heroic lawyer who battled racism in the book and movie To Kill a Mockingbird. She has been accused of making vaguely anti-Semitic remarks, but she attributes those remarks to her political opponents notwithstanding a WaPo story that conclusively demonstrated they were her writings.

Don’t forget my personal favorite: “Occupied New Orleans.”

That the people on that site are wasting their holiday wounding each other in a game of who can out-PC the other is so inexplicably just, I think I’m aroused.
Jon H
I dunno, I think it was about as stupid as if Sheehan had said it was her own personal Holocaust. She certainly deserves to be called out, even by her own side, for being such a self-absorbed twit.
Look, never mind “political correctness”, the trail of tears was fucking evil. Cindy Sheehan’s situation? Not so much.

“In hindsight, I think Cheney et. al. overstated the case for war- but I think they honestly believed that Saddam had WMD and was a threat.”
And some people honestly believe their kid is possessed and can only be cured by baking or by a knife through the heart. They still go to jail (or a mental hospital).

Grieving people can be so unreasonable.

I for one can’t understand why we can’t just have a holiday where we can celebrate America and the things we are thankful for without this “global guilt” being used to knock us down a peg or two. Of course if we could just “realize” all the bad things we have done in the past we would stop imposing our will and terrible way of life on others….blah blah blah.
Well, I am sick of it and just want a holiday to say thanks. Screw the guilt, I am sick of it – thank you to the Indians for your help in building the greatest nation this world has ever seen, your sacrifice isn’t forgotten, now grab drumstick, some spuds, and we’ll all (verbally) kick Mother Sheehan’s ass tomorrow!

Q: What do Cindy Sheehan and George Bush have in common?
A: Living proof that idiots should stay away from microphones.
Beatitude Sputnik
Well, at least SHE is capable of admitting a mistake and apologizing for it. And for the record, I am of native stock, and there is a big difference between making a stupid insenstive statement and, oh, say, lying to start a war that kills, what? A hundred thousand people? Your president sucks. Happy Turkey Day.
Sojourner
John, I do hope your obsession with Sheehan is in its final throes. With so many more important events happening, why do you waste your bandwidth on her?
BIRDZILLA
Cindy Sheehan is becoming a bigger turkey then the one in the thanksginings day parade opem mouth and insert foot
