Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Stop using mental illness to avoid talking about armed white supremacy.

Today’s gop: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

Trumpflation is an intolerable hardship for every American, and it’s Trump’s fault.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

If you’re gonna whine, it’s time to resign!

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

“Perhaps I should have considered other options.” (head-desk)

I’m starting to think Jesus may have made a mistake saving people with no questions asked.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Human rights are not a matter of opinion!

Roe is not about choice. It is about freedom.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

If you voted for Trump, you don’t get to speak about ethics, morals, or rule of law.

You cannot shame the shameless.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

People identifying as christian while ignoring christ and his teachings is a strange thing indeed.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

We will not go back.

Their shamelessness is their super power.

We can’t confuse what’s necessary to win elections with the policies that we want to implement when we do.

They are not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

Pat Robertson Thinks The Left Wants to Kill Babies to Turn Straight Women into Lesbians

Or something.

I honestly don’t know what the crap this guy is talking about. It’s just batshit bananas. Something about unmarried women not wanting married women to have children because all single women are lesbians, or something?

I don’t know, you tell me:

Meeuwsen: There are lots of government-funded agencies in this country. Why do you think the President picked that one above all else to say, ‘not one penny’?

Robertson: Well it’s the left; it’s this culture of death. The far-left is livid about killing babies. They want to kill do this, they want to destroy. You go back, and I don’t want to play all this psychological stuff but nevertheless, if a woman is a lesbian, what advantage does she have over a married woman? Or what deficiency does she have?

Meeuwsen: Well she can’t have children

Robertson: That’s exactly right. And so if these married women don’t have children, if they abort their babies, then that kind of puts them on a level playing field. And you say, nobody’s there to express that? Isn’t that shocking, well think about it a little bit ladies and gentlemen.

What the–
I don’t–

I’m just gonna look at the amusing cartoon for a while…

#dickwhisperer is specifically about WaPo “reporter” Dana Milbank who whispered “You’re such a dick” to Nico Pitney during one of those cable TV shoutfests.

I think what Robertson is saying is that the left’s desire to create equality for lesbians is so extreme that it pushes them to encourage abortion for heterosexual women because that way neither of them have children.

PS. No excuse for not knowing Dick Whisperer when it is in the Lexicon.

    I don’t know what “#dickwhisperer” means

    It’s there in the lexicon:

Dick Whisperer– Derogatory nickname given to consummate Beltway insider and Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank, who after being demolished on a television show by Nico Pitney, leaned over and whispered into Pitney’s ear that he was “such a dick.”

    Google also works …

Many years ago, Robertson’s cohost was a woman with a Scottish accent and a beautiful singing voice that she would be given a spotlight to show off every now and then. She was just as much a wingnut, but she was very sharp and had an independent spirit. Whenever Pat would say anything particularly deranged, she would give him this half smile, and a “weeelll…”, with an amused sideways “you’re going off the rails, boss” look in her eye. I miss her – the contrast between her and this airhead yes-woman Meeuwsen couldn’t be starker.

    Also,

Well it’s the left; it’s this culture of death. The far-left is livid about killing babies. They want to kill do this, they want to destroy.

Check this link out(salon.com/news/politics/red/2001/04/18/blue/): Pat Robertson weighing in on abortion in the People’s Republic of China.

“I don’t agree with it. But at the same time, they’ve got 1.2 billion people, and they don’t know what to do,” Robertson told Blitzer. “If every family over there was allowed to have three or four children, the population would be completely unsustainable … I think that right now they’re doing what they have to do. I don’t agree with the forced abortion, but I don’t think the United States needs to interfere with what they’re doing internally in this regard.”

Pat Robertson is just fine with China’s anti-choice, anti-life policies, leading to the inescapable conclusion that it really is the woman’s choice and not the baby’s death that he has a problem with.

Let’s think about this for a second. Robertson’s got to be pushing 400 years old.

In all that time, I’m quite sure some liberal, somewhere, has tried to explain why abortions should be legal (terminating pregnancies where the baby will live a short life and die a painful death, health of the mother, preventing botched back-alley medical procedures, etc, etc, etc).

Presumably, someone has also tried to explain Planned Parenthood to him (they provide birth control and family planning, help prevent unwanted pregnancies, which in turn helps prevent starving children, etc, etc, etc).

Yet, every time the subject of mocking “conservatives” like Robertson comes up, someone on this site invariably says that we should not mock them, we should try to reason with them…

How do you reason with someone like this? These people are fucking morons. If Robertson were any dumber, he would not be able to speak at all… He’s about 5 IQ points above finger painting the walls of the 700 club with handfuls of his own diarrhea.

What is most striking is that it is the woman he’s speaking to that came up with the difference between lesbians and straight women being they can’t have children.

Certainly the exchange was scripted to some degree, but still…

So let me get this … straight. Having an abortion turns a woman into the ghey? And they will never, never, never, ever want to have children again?

And so, all the ghey women I know who have children are closet heteros?

It must be so confusing in Pat Robertson’s head.

This ranks up their with the stupidity of the Proposition 8 supporters who are against Vaughn R. Walker for judging while ghey:

In another jab at the federal judge who ruled against Proposition 8, sponsors of the gay marriage initiative asked a district court Monday to set aside the ruling on the grounds the judge was in a long-term same-sex relationship that posed a conflict of interest.
    __
Attorneys for ProtectMarriage, the group that sponsored the 2008 ballot initiative, said in a legal motion that Chief Judge Vaughn R. Walker, who retired from the San Francisco-based district court earlier this year, had a duty to disclose his relationship and step down before deciding whether a ban on same-sex marriage violated the federal Constitution.

    What a world.

Robertson makes sense, from the Religious Right’s point of view.

The Religious Right basically views the Homosexual Agenda as an attempt to exterminate humanity. Since homosexuals cannot procreate, while conducting homosexual sex, the goal of the homosexuals is to inflict straight people with the same deficiency they have in not being able to conceive babies while getting it on.

This is why homosexuals must be opposed at all costs. Giving into them, will mean the extinction of the human race.

    April 26, 2011 at 4:45 pm

I won’t even listen but I’ll take a stab at elucidating some probable premises:

Lesbians in Robertson’s version of reality are some form of bizarro world anti-married-woman “thing.” In Robertson’s world lesbians aren’t merely unwomanly or unfeminine they are antithetical to these things because they don’t submit to the control of men sexually or socially. Potentially, neither do unmarried women who are feminists. The only real women are married women who are not feminists.

But there’s always the potential for the licentious freedom that lesbians and feminists have from masculine control to appeal to “real” married, het women. So they have to be protected from the agressive actions of gay and feminist women seeking to convert them.

How do babies get into it? Well, babies and motherhood are both the natural result of natural womanly feelings and also part of a male centered household so, naturally, when the unnatural meets the natural the unnatural tries to destroy the natural (kill the babeez) and also may tempt the natural woman to throw off her chains, I mean her babeez, which she can only do by aborting or killing them or, just as bad, preventing their existence.

The very notion that lots of lesbian and feminist het women love their babies voluntarily, seek motherhood voluntarily, is anathema to a world view in which women do what they are told by the men in their lives. In the case of lesbians because no men means no lawful authority. In the case of feminist women their feminism is a bar to their doing things under masculine compulsion so what they and their husbands freely choose to do doesn’t “count.”

Oh, go read the Authoritarians and you’ll see how logical all this crazy is. Its never what you do, but who tells you to do it that matters to these people. That’s why they aren’t anti torture as long as its done to the right people. And that’s why they can’t tell the difference between consensual sex and rape, or torture and a frat prank. Mutual consent is anathema to authoritarians.

@TooManyPaulWs: To be fair, IVF is considered, along with contraception, to be unnatural and one of the things his folks would ban. So in the world he would create, lesbians CAN’T have babies.

3/4 of lesbians having kids of their own

and the rest of us, 27% or so, have kids of someone else’s own, so there’s the magic number again.

I think what Pat’s trying to say is, Straight women who have abortions instead of babies are on the way to becoming lesbians. And practicing witchcraft.

But that could be an echo from something he or Jerry F said back in the second Reagan Administration. Why aren’t all these dudes more dead of natural causes yet?

Just can’t quit this topic: When I wanted to turn straight women into lesbians, back before I was gay-married, I didn’t typically use an abortion clinic, ever since finding four-year liberal-arts colleges to be a much more effective environment for the purpose. YMMV.

Or maybe Pat’s trying to say that lesbians want abortions to make ourselves equal to straight married women. Okay, but aside from the abortions, let’s talk more about this equality. Which spouse gets to “babysit” her own kids, spend 22 minutes a day cooking instead of twice that, and consistently exaggerate how much she “helps out” around the house in surveys? Because that’s the equality this lesbian wants…oh wait, that would be equality with married straight MEN…never mind, old dude is just crazy. That’s not an equality I’m in the market for.

Pat Robertson ought to be executed for his dealings with Liberia, the blood diamond trade and the material support that provided to Al-Queda.

    From Wikpedia:

According to a June 2, 1999, article in The Virginian-Pilot,[23] Robertson had extensive business dealings with Liberian president Charles Taylor. According to the article, Taylor gave Robertson the rights to mine for diamonds in Liberia’s mineral-rich countryside. According to two Operation Blessing pilots who reported this incident to the state of Virginia for investigation in 1994, Robertson used his Operation Blessing planes to haul diamond-mining equipment to Robertson’s mines in Liberia, despite the fact that Robertson was telling his 700 Club viewers that the planes were sending relief supplies to the victims of the genocide in Rwanda. In response to Taylor’s alleged crimes against humanity, the United States Congress passed a bill In November 2003 that offered two million dollars for his capture. Robertson accused President George W. Bush of “undermining a Christian, Baptist president to bring in Muslim rebels to take over the country.” At the time Taylor was harboring Al Qaeda operatives who were funding their operations through the illegal diamond trade.[24] On February 4, 2010, at his war crimes trial in the Hague, Taylor testified that Robertson was his main political ally in the U.S., and that he had volunteered to make Liberia’s case before U.S. administration officials in exchange for concessions to Robertson’s Freedom Gold, Ltd., to which Taylor gave a contract to mine gold in southeast Liberia.[25]

Pat Robertson is a fraud and an accessory to mass murder.

And ABL, you think Robertson is bad- here is one of our elected Representatives, Allen West:

We need you to come in and lock shields, and strengthen up the men who are going to the fight for you. To let these other women know on the other side — these planned Parenthood women, the Code Pink women, and all of these women that have been neutering American men and bringing us to the point of this incredible weakness — to let them know that we are not going to have our men become subservient. That’s what we need you to do. Because if you don’t, then the debt will continue to grow…deficits will continue to grow.

Okay, okay. I get it!!! It’s brilliant. Let me clarify: All of us married ladies will get abortions because the lesbians tell us to. Then we’ll be on the same level as the lesbians. No, wait, we can still have more babies. But lesbians can have babies too, so aren’t we already on the same level?

WAIT! I think I’ve got it… no, lost it.

NO! I’ve got it: We’ll kill all our unborn babies because we want all the glory and special rights that lesbians have. Well, that might not be right.

WAIT!! I know, I know! Obama is a closet lesbian who wants us straight women to kill our unborn babies — oh shit…never mind.

@JRon: That jumped out at me, too. So, he’s saying that having children is a burden to women. Therefore, the fact that he wants to force women to have babies means he’s intentionally making the playing field unequal for women. Yes, two can play at this stupid game.

Here’s another thing, Dickhead Robertson–some women don’t want babies regardless of sexual orientation. I know several women (yes, including me) who have no desire for them–and it isn’t at all related to sexuality.

In other words, as usual, Robertson is full of shit. But, you know, I expect that from him. MSNBC is the one who needs to fire his ass, but they won’t because he’s good for ratings. or something.
