I was a bit surprised that MSNBC hired Michael Steele. It is bizarre to have him pop in on Rachel’s show and be his weird self.
I can’t decide if he’s just playing with us.
trollhattan
I don’t freaking believe it–now we have tornadoes. Two have touched down in California (Chico area, north of where I am).
Kan I send these back and haz quake instead?
James E. Powell
I am also perplexed by Michael Steele on MSNBC, or on any cable news show other than FOX. He is a buffoon. A Republican clown. He never did anything worthy of note. He wasn’t even good at being a Republican. He has never added anything to the national discussion of any issue.
Was it that they needed a Republican, any Republican? Did all the other Republicans turn down offers from MSNBC?
Baud
Eh, I prefer Steele to Pat Buchanan. The “name” is more important that the content in any event.

Amazon sends my wife selections of black fiction. My wife, however, is blonde and cannot tan. I am, of course, pink.
It’s a bit racist of Amazon to assume I’m black because I purchase books on civil rights. Somehow the fact that I mostly buy WWII history doesn’t make them send me VFW stuff.
And yes, I’ve been really disappointed in my fellow white folks (especially when Tim Griffin beat Joyce Elliot). I thought most Arkansans were past that.

Also if a few on the liberal-left would have had their way…

i can’t tell if the dog here is confused or just startled. either way it’s one of the more adorable/nondepressing/nonpolitical things i’ve seen lately.
PurpleGirl
@trollhattan: Well, during this past winter there were at least two tornadoes, IIRC, in the NY area. One of them passed east me, coming north through Brooklyn. There were a lot, a lot, of downed trees in parks in Middle Village, Glendale, and Forest Hills among other areas.
General Stuck
Sometimes, it’s just a good idea to sit still and think a little how terribly wrong things could have went early on in Obama’s presidency. Not saying they couldn’t have possibly gone some better, but doing the highly unpopular bailouts, especially of GM, and the snakes on Wallstreet, things could be much much worse. And the oppo was not only from the right wing and repubs.
This has Been an Obot approved campaign message, paid for with Unicorn pelts and not much else.

Freakin’ tornadoes. Mo/IL/IN/OH is getting creamed by some monster supercells bearing 4 inch hail, downbursts, straight line winds, and the occasional tornado. The spousal unit is bitching about living in the Midwest again–she grew up in Seattle.

John, you don’t watch The Middle, Modern Family, Happy Endings or Cougar Town? Season finales are tonight.
hilts
@James E. Powell:
True, but he’s not a hater like Pat Buchanan.
BD of MN
my wife has the Idol finale on the TV. Is it just me or is Tom Jones starting to look eerily like Morgan Freeman?

@LittlePig:
Speaking of MSNBC, Ed Schultz is expected to issue an on-air apology for comments he made about Laura Ingraham on his radio show.

@Sir Nose’D:
Just the opposite of your wife, I miss the rowdy weather of the midwest, and deep south I lived in during the 90’s. Kind of crazy about it, and often dreamed about being a storm chaser someday.
Good thing I left Biloxi in 99, before Katrina, or I would have probly stayed to ride in out in a john boat with my fishing pole, and ended up fish food.
Now I’m totally addicted to the bone dry climate of SW NM, but bored stiff with the mostly lack of Mother Nature having a very bad day. It’s kind of sick, I know, and I don’t want anyone to get hurt, but just can’t help it.
kdaug
Don’t tell Mitt.

@Sir Nose’D:
Don’t know if your spousal unit would be that much happier back here; we’re currently having the wettest and coldest spring in 60 years. Not having the big storms, mind you, but it’s not all rainbows and ponies here either.

@PurpleGirl:
I’m certain ours are popguns compared to what’s happening in the Midwest. These interactive aerials of Joplin show an E5 takes no backseat to a tsunami.

We need a post about the 40 Republican senators that voted to end Medicare today. I think it’s news when someone as idealogically dense as Paul Rand is smart enough to vote the right way.
Suffern ACE
@hilts: Good. Plenty of ways to go after Doctor of What Exactly Laura without dwelling there.
Baud
@Just Some Fuckhead:
Rand thought Ryan’s plan didn’t go far enough. He had is own plan that was even more radical and got voted down 90-7. But I’ve notice the media is mainly just reporting that Rand voted against the Ryan plan, so I guess he gets the best of both worlds.
Roger Moore
@trollhattan:
Tornadoes in California is not really news. We get them periodically. The big thing is that those are wimpy California tornadoes, not massive F5 destroyers like the ones they’ve had back East. It’s like them flipping out over an earthquake that would barely register for most Californians.
hilts
@Suffern ACE:
I think knuckle-dragging neanderthal or raving, drooling idiot are fairly accurate descriptions of Laura Ingraham.
Suffern ACE
@hilts: See how easy that was!
PurpleGirl
@trollhattan: Yes, that’s right. There is no comparison but you usually don’t think that they occur in the NYC area. It’s startling when they do.
jeffreyw
In Glorious Southern Illinois, here, and we just had a line blow through that spawned a few tornadoes and dropped 2″ of rain in 10 minutes. No damage here to speak of although I haven’t been out looking. We did get a nice full rainbow right at dusky dark. And Mrs J is just emptying the strawberry ice cream out of the machine. More on that later…
Just Some Fuckhead
@Baud:
This is why we need a post. Maybe we could point out all 40 Republicans were white.
hilts
Did anyone just catch Ed Schultz’s on-air apology to Laura Ingraham?
Just Some Fuckhead
@hilts:
What did he apologize to that slut for?
gex
@hilts: It’s missing something… She is a woman you know. Can’t you use that in your insult somehow? Oh wait…
@efgoldman: This is why Net Neutrality has to go.
hilts
@Just Some Fuckhead:
That’s a winner
@gex:
Big Ed seemed genuinely contrite. I think he fears his head is on the chopping block.

Ed Scultz’s apology to Laura Ingraham
http://www.mediaite.com/tv/ed-schultz-apologizes-on-the-ed-show-for-calling-laura-ingraham-a-right-wing-slut
Comrade Mary
I was impressed with the first 30, err — 3 minutes of the apology. Clean, clear, and no passive-aggressive “If I offended anyone” non-apology bullshit. That was very well done.
But then he went on and on about his history and his intentions and how he wants to set a good example for his kids and grandkids, and it was just so, so self-indulgent. Get down off the cross, Ed: we need the wood.
hilts
@Comrade Mary:
Well said. Like you, I liked the apology up to a point, but I just don’t trust Ed to stay away from this kind of language in the future. I think MSNBC should be drawing up a shortlist of replacements for him.
Just Some Fuckhead
@hilts:
Meh, he already got suspended, no reason to apologize. I really get sick of conservatives being able to say any old damn thing, threaten to shoot us, kill us, tell us to go fuck ourselves, call us commies and baby killers, pedophiles, etc. etc. etc. and then we have to apologize for saying “slut”.
Things aren’t ever gonna change until we stop letting them hold us to a different standard. Ed shoulda pulled every clip of Laura Ingraham calling Democrats names and just spent the entire show running that.
hilts
@Just Some Fuckhead:
Laura Ingraham and her co-conspirators are malignant carcinogens. I wish someone could develop an effective strategy to debunk and discredit their bullshit talking points for good and get the Washington Press Corps to stop taking them seriously.
goblue72
@hilts: She once described a gay rights group at Dartmouth as “cheerleaders for latent campus Sodomites” and secretly taped their meetings and sent the tapes to students parents in order to out them. She encouraged listeners to jam the phone lines of a Democratic party service for voters to report voting irregularities. She continually lies on behalf of her corporate patrons. She’s the author of tired, racist portrayal of the Obamas as a bunch of BBQ rib eating monkeys.
So, no, Ed was wrong to call her a slut. That was wrong and inaccurate. What she is, is a complete c*nt.
TooManyJens
@Comrade Mary: Oh, good, not just me then. I was starting to squirm. I kind of wish that he had apologized to women, not just Laura Ingraham, but eh. I think that he was sort of nodding toward it being sexist when he was talking about teaching his sons especially that they need to be decent people, but the whole thing was just too vague and rambling. All that said, I think that he really is sorry and suspect that he won’t do it again.
@goblue72:
Could we maybe, just possibly, leave gender the fuck out of it? Is she worse because she’s a woman? Is her femaleness what you have a problem with? If not, just leave it out of the insult. How fucking hard is that?
mclaren
With Peak Oil, all these people are going to be without jobs and soon.
Nobody seems to get it. The age of oil is ending. American car culture is over. Industries based around cars and freeways are going to go away.
We’d better prepare for it now instead of trying to live in our 1950s Happy Motoring past.
Three-nineteen
South Park tonight had the perfect GOP slogan:
“I don’t make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.”
Just Some Fuckhead
@TooManyJens:
And men too. Lord knows there’s no shortage of loose men.
Dan
so the American car industry goes under, then a year or 2 later an earthquake and tsunami stops production of Japanese cars. so no car production except for German luxury stuff. And Volkswagons.
