Summary: Frist says Taliban can’t be defeated militarily, and Karzai should just give up and negotiate with them.
This one kind of pisses me off, as Afghanistan and the Taliban is the fight that I feel America had the most will to fight. And now the Republicans are claiming we should give up there, so we can refocus our efforts on losing Iraq?

Let’s not get carried away here — Hastert is nowhere near as bad as the bishops who let the stuff go on for years.
this astonishing letter written by Bob Ward, “Senior Manager, Policy Coordination” of the British Royal Society — the top scientific body in the U.K. — in which he pretty much orders Exxon/Esso to stop funding scientists who disagree with the Kyoto-Protocol party line on global warming.

Anyone seen any statements regarding Foley, Hassert and friends from the leaders of the Christian right? Like Dobson, Falwell, Robertson etc. They are awfully quiet…
The account by Sean McCormack came hours after Ms. Rice, the secretary of state, told reporters aboard her airplane that she did not recall the specific meeting on July 10, 2001, noting that she had met repeatedly with Mr. Tenet that summer about terrorist threats. Ms. Rice, the national security adviser at the time, said it was “incomprehensible” she ignored dire terrorist threats two months before the Sept. 11 attacks.
Mr. McCormack also said records show that the Sept. 11 commission was informed about the meeting, a fact that former intelligence officials and members of the commission confirmed on Monday.
When details of the meeting emerged last week in a new book by Bob Woodward of The Washington Post, Bush administration officials questioned Mr. Woodward’s reporting.

That Rice has been caught in a lie is news.
But the rest of it isn’t.
Despite Clarke’s astonishing account before the 9/11 Commission of how his warnings were pretty much dismissed, despite Rice’s jaw-dropping testimony before that Commission, and despite the Commission’s published report, there has been a vast and inexplicable reluctance to tell a truth that stared everyone in the face:
The Bush Admin had warnings, lots of warnings, that an attack was coming. And it chose to discount them, for reasons that no one has ever troubled to try finding out.

Right, the Royal Society of scientists is suppressing science.
Here’s a tip: asking people to stop lying about scientific findings is not “suppressing science,” even if you choose for partisan political reasons to believe the lies.

So it getting people to lie is when you fund research that disagrees with your worldview – Global Warming Climate Change?
So if I say that embryonic stem cell research produces no cures (unlike adult stem cell research), I can call on biotech companies to stop funding embryonic stem cell research.
If you disagree, I can retort that the biotech companies are paying people to lie.

Nothing like getting metaphorically reamed before all creation to send one groveling before the Lord.

Actually, I was just pointing out that their physical similarity is uncanny.
Although I would say that the shit that Hastert has knowingly permitted (Abramoff comes to mind) could make a Cardinal blush.
