I forgot. My predictions:
Democrats pick up 36 in the House and 3 in the Senate. Tomorrow, Nancy Pelosi, Ted Kennedy, and Chuck Schumer come over to my house, and, at taser-point, I am forced to give all my money, have an abortion, and promise I will never ever enjoy gun violence on TV. Afterwards, they hand me the new National Anthem- in Spanish. Then we are we are all forced to attend a mandatory rally for the Democrats and Al-Qaeda, because, after all- the terrorists have won.
Tom’s Prediction:
I say the Dem’s get 20 in the House. They’ll get 5 more in the Senate,it breaks down the middle, and we all get to watch Lieberman and Cheney decide our fate for the next two years.
Tim’s Prediction:
I think that Dems will win enough House seats to eke out a majority but not much more, say 16-18 pickups. In the Senate I predict a Dem pickup of 4 to 5 seats. If we win 5 and Lieberman stays on then his last middle finger to the Democratic party will be to accept the Defense Secretary post and let Jodi Rell name a Republican replacement. Bush may value Rumsfeld but he values a friendly Senate even more.
Zifnab
hahaha. Awesome.
Dave
As much as I’ve been looking forward to election day, and the Dems taking control of at least one branch of Congress, I will be a little sad. Because I know that John really won’t like a lot of the policy ideas that that the Democratic party will propose, so I’m expecting more “Democratic Stupidity” posts and less of this type that really do make me laugh.

It all depends on how well those robocalls work. The GOP may pick up some seats yet! When I used to say that on Scrutator, it was a spoofy joke. If it really happens, I’m going to have to cry, and then punch myself in the face a couple times.

Right wing coup d’etat by the weekend.
Mr Furious
I am hopeful we take back the House, but I have no faith in the electorate of this country anymore, so I won’t be surprised if we don’t. I think we fall just short in the Senate.
Here’s a specific scenario to ponder…
Lieberman is the swing. Both parties will pull out all the stops to seduce him into their fold — Dems: “It was nothing personal, just procedure…come on back.” Republicans: “Screw them. They sold you out. We gave you money and endorsements. You owe us. You can have your seniority transfer over.”
Which does he choose? I will NOT be suprised if he flips to R, but I think he will remain independant and vote with Dems on social issues and Reps on defense/war.
OR…
Lieberman is the swing, he caucuses with the Dems, so Bush offers him Rumsfeld’s job. He takes it. CT Gov. Rell (R) appoints a Republican replacement for Lieberman. Senate flips back.
What do you all think?
Baby Jane

Well, maybe this is hopeful thinking, but…
I think the race is going to be a lot closer than the polling has showed.
Doug
I’m just going to assume the Dems won’t win enough seats to take control of either House or Senate. I’ve spent too many election days over the past 6 years hearing encouraging poll numbers only to be made very, very sad when the votes were counted or “counted” as the case may be.
So, let’s just say House Dems +10; Senate Dems +2.
The Other Steve
Katherine Harris will win in Florida!
You heard it here first!
Cyrus
People think this is depressing? Clearly, I’m the only professional-quality misanthropist here. If Lieberman were to accept the nomination of Secretary of Defense, sure, he’s be replaced by a Republican. But he’d be on Bush’s sinking ship, Connecticut voters would be royally pissed off at Rell and Lieberman’s appointee, and (the thing that he would hate the most) he’s no longer a Fox News Democrat, he’s just another Republican.
But ponder this: in a 50/50 Senate, not only can Lieberman continue to give all the rhetorical cover to Republicans that he wants, he can do so while regaining every bit of reputation he has lost recently. The Republicans won’t need his vote, so he can refresh his liberal credentials by voting with his party, secure in the knowledge it would’nt actually matter. Within a week, we’ll be seeing “sensible liberals” and “moderate conservatives” say things like this: “The blogosphere and MoveOn.org are sooo unhinged, and it’s so uncivil of them to hold Lieberman’s speech where he called Speaker Pelosi a traitor against him, because he voted their way on the Preserve and Strengthen Free Trade with Iraq Act!”
Tsulagi
Well, as Stalin said, “The person who votes in unimportant, the person who counts the votes is.”
Mr Furious
Yeah, I considered that… If Rell was replacing a Democrat, the class move would be to replace that person with a candidate reflective (?) of the voter’s preference. A fantasy, to be sure…
But therein lies the wrinkle — if Lieberman wins, that means the Dem (Lamont) already lost. Rell really is under less (no) obligation to tab a Dem.
If she plans to only ever run for office in Connecticut, she could appoint a Dem. If she has higher sights, the GOP will force her hand.
Steve
She’s a Republican, she’s clearly going to nominate a Republican. I doubt Connecticut voters would hate her for nominating someone like, say, Chris Shays.

My predictions are all wishfull thinking:
Senate: +6 Dems
House: +30 Dems
Voting-wise I am the contrarian here. I voted (in MD) for Erlich(R.) governor; the Dems for senate and house (I don’t even remember their names); then Republican for State offices like clerks, comptroller, whatever; and Dems in my county. I consider it a straight line vote for the Divided Government Party(tm). Actually, I voted for Erlich cuz he’s been a strong advocate for voter verified electronic voting.
zzyzx
I expect an increase in “Democratic Stupidity” posts in the next few years, but I also expect that I’ll agree with many of them.
Here’s hoping.
Punchy
While you may written this in jest, I FULLY expect this to happen. I fully and completely expect for Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld to simply ignore subpoenas from a Democratic House.
They WILL push a constitutional crisis, probably b/c they think they have the votes in the SC. How an SC could, in good conscience, allow for the executive to ignore the legislative is beyond me, but it’s clear that Alito and Scalia don’t really judge in a non-partisan fashion.
zzyzx
I like this line of reasoning from Mickey Kaus:
Does he understand that only 15 Republican seats are even up for election this year? A 6 seat pick up would mean that 40% of all eligible seats would have flipped. That’s a pretty impressive pickup.
Steve
What was the Republican margin in the Senate following the 1994 election? Just wondering.

Furthermore, you know the times are tough for a Republican when they literally have to tell you to “Vote Democrat” to win a Senate race.
jcricket
Fixed.
Seriously Steve, I know you’re a Republican (although you voted for mostly Dems this time), but look around. Something like 90-99% of the “trickery” is being committed by Republicans, and a lot of that organized by the NRCC.
Please point me to the similar Democratic chicanery, especially at an organized/national level. The best Democrats can muster are a few misleading attack ads (you know the typical out-of-context vote misrepresentations).
I will give you the credit that the Republican party is clearly best at political dirty work (esp. if it’s illegal). They’ve chalked up all the fines and convictions as merely “the cost of doing business”, and figured that winning is more important than winning even remotely honestly.
The Other Steve
Oh come on, everybody knows they’re both the same. It’s a Known Fact(tm).
Steve
Here’s a link to the fake voting guide being passed out by the Republicans in Maryland. None of the gentlemen pictured on the front of the guide has endorsed Erlich. Only one of the three has endorsed Steele.
And it’s disgusting to watch the Republicans pretend like there’s no such thing as a low-information voter, like no one could ever conceivably be misled by this tactic. This is not some wacko activist slashing tires. This is the First Lady of the State of Maryland personally taking part in these tactics!
They have nothing to lose, because the Republicans who are honest enough to denounce these tactics, like John Cole, have already turned their back on the Republican Party. The rest of the dead-enders cheer these tactics on.
Baby Jane
Curing Stockholm Syndrome is a bitch.
jcricket
I understand how the “a message about democratic candidate x” annoying robo-call scam is supposed to work, but doesn’t the “vote steele he’s a democrat” thing potentially not work? When people go in, isn’t there a good chance they’ll look for the “D” and vote for that person?
I get it, they’re trying hail mary passes at this point and flinging around all the mud they have left to see what’ll stick, but I don’t think of this particular tactic as the most effective. Must be really worried.
When Democrats take over the House and anywhere Democrats control the state legislatures, they need to up the fines and penalties for this misrepresentation, voter suppression, etc. Can’t fix everything, but we can bleed them dry a little bit with fines and convictions or they can stop acting illegally, their choice.

And how would such a person vote if they didn’t try the trick? The whole idea is to target people who plan to vote Dem regardless, and try to fool them into thinking Steele is the Dem. If they’re going to walk in and vote for whoever appears on the Dem line, it won’t work, but if they look for the name instead, then you’ve got them.
Steve

House+25 Senate+7 … REPUBLICAN pick-ups. Welcome to Diebold nation.
jcricket
I know the Republicans will spin anything less than a 100-seat switch in the Senate as a Democratic loss and a mandate for more Dobson-style Republicanism, but us Democrats should chew on this:
We will never pick up every Republican open seat, or even a majority of them, but holding all of our own seats, picking up a number of governorships, state legislatures, taking the House and several seats in the Senate is a massive rout.
No matter what the talking heads say, these results mandate the Democrats to fight the Republicans even harder for the next 2 years. If we do, we’ll see “more of the same” (bigger majorities in the House, re-taking the Senate, more governorships, more state legislatures and hopefully the presidency).
skip
Dems gain 28 in the House, 5-6 in the Senate.
Whatever the actual numbers, the word subpoena will be ringing in some GOP ears in coming days.
jcricket
Steve, I get how it’s supposed to work, and you’re right that it will work some percentage of the time. But compared to the other dirty tricks and racist ads, this one at least feels more like it could backfire… Dunno.
It’s odious, of course, and it shows how little faith Republicans have. Republicans keep saying “Democrats don’t have a plan”, but apparently their only plan is “Pretend to be a Democrat”.

I like how the average includes all midterms back to beginning of time (or whatever). Despite that for the last 30 years the “average” is much, much smaller.
I’m not a fan of completely ignoring history, but I think we can fairly say that if a political trend or statistic is much different for the last 30 years than the previous 70, you can no longer use the previous 70 as political history.
But we all know Coulter doesn’t care. Our only hope is that she becomes a felon, in Florida, for voting in the wrong precinct. Then she won’t be able to vote again :-)
Andrew
I hope Pelosi puts up a stage like a KISS set with fireworks and flames and shit and comes on with a massive guitar riff and starts screaming “It’s subpoena time, BITCHES! Subpoena in your earhole!”

Since the Democrats are going to be running the Government and making desicions in Iraq…. You are just going to take their plan, give them 4 + years for it to work, accept a Rummy like Dem (Kerry will do fine) making mistake, after mistake and if you dare to complain….. We will call you a Cut and Run Republican coward… How is that?
Or call you a traitor because you are giving comfort to the enemy in times of war.
If there are more Terrorists at the end of the 4 years, the Democrats will still call you soft on terrorism and will tell you that any republican victory will be a win for Osama.
And that takes me to my next point;
Just a remainder of your lie about the terrorist wining if Democrats win. The latest NIE report from Bush’s administration (That’s why it was clasiffied) shows terrorism going up under Bush exponentially.
Pall, you and your crowd are probably in Osama’s payroll, and Christmas Gift list!!
See terrorism going down???
And please don’t start with “There has not been any attack in the U.S. since 9-11″….. If you know how to count (I doubt it) you would understand that since the first terrorist attack in New York World Trade Center’s towers in 1993 the next attack was in 2001… How many years WITH NO TERRORIST ATTACK IN AMERICA? 8 years!!!
8 years with not one terrorist attack in America under Democrats!! And no hysterics, invasions, and name calling the Republicans. The terrorists were all cought, and put in jail. No invasion of a country with phantom WMD’s, no hysterics, no dividing the nation. You think you are great with 5 years …. Maybe when you grow up and stop taking money from Osama you will call it as it is.
One final observation. If you or your crowd of Right Wing Neo Cons think that the war in Iraq can be won with no Democratic support, or no Centrist Support at all….. You are even more stupid that I tought.
The only thing your “My way or the highway” attitude got you, is a kick in the ass by the American voters. It took you 12 years to loose what the Democrats kept for 40. It happened because of Iraq, and it Goes to show who the real idiots are here.

When I read blogs such as yours, I have to question a lot of things. But the first one that comes to mind is, “Who do you think is a bigger enemy of the US, the democrats or the terrorists? Everytime I ask myself that question, the Repubs on sites like these seem to answer that the Dems are the enemy. Need an example, just read the posts above. How are we to actually beat a true enemy, like the terrorists who are out for all of us, when you have your sights set on the wrong target (Other political parties)? Just guessing, but if our Gov’t doesn’t get their “stuff” together and start working together, we will lose the WOT. We will not lose the WOT because the Dems won and it is about time you start recognizing this so that we can come together and win this thing.
