Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

Polls are now a reliable indicator of what corporate Republicans want us to think.

You’re just a puppy masquerading as an old coot.

Fear and negativity are contagious, but so is courage!

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

It’s a good piece. click on over. but then come back!!

If America since Jan 2025 hasn’t broken your heart, you haven’t loved her enough.

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

Finding joy where we can, and muddling through where we can’t.

Bad people in a position to do bad things will do bad things because they are bad people. End of story.

Let there be snark.

I would add a “Proud to Be from Massachusetts” category, but some say the list is too long already, and besides, “Gay Rights Are Human Rights” is sufficient here.

FOX News started their MLK day coverage by interviewing some woman from “Project21″(?) who said MLK would be very disappointed at the way government has over-regulated and stifled freedom. Expect more co-opting throughout the day.

perry’s ‘economic plan’ = the tundra twit’s (or for that matter, any and all of rethugs’)

“America has proven but untapped supplies of natural gas, oil and coal. America is the Saudi Arabia of coal, with 25 percent of the world’s supply. Our country contains up to 134 billion barrels of oil and nearly 1.2 quadrillion cubic feet of natural gas.”

Perry said that using executive orders and other executive actions, he’d authorize more drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and offshore. He also would seek congressional authorization to drill in Alaska’s ANWR region, a move that’s been unsuccessful for pro-energy lawmakers for years.

That “We Do” video is lovely and moving and maddening.

I can’t watch the second. Don’t understand why some You Tube links are no problem and others are not.

Talk about an insult and offense to the institution of marriage. These are people who want to enter into marriage, they all look like they are old enough to make that decision but the state knows better? Get government out of marriage – why aren’t the teabaggers screaming about this? Where are the real conservatives who respect personal choices and less government? (I know – I know)

I was really impressed with the dignity and kindness of all the clerks (faceless government bureaucrats, right?). They obviously wanted to be allowed to issue marriage licenses to these couples and seemed genuinely sorry that current NC law doesn’t permit them to do so. And the applicants, in turn, didn’t take out their disappointment and frustration on the clerks, recognizing that they were doing their jobs and weren’t responsible for crafting discriminatory laws. In other words — decent people treating decent people decently.

Lawrence O’Donnell showed this last night on his show. The two older women brought me to tears, and Siubhan, your point about the clerks is spot on. Decency – not demonizing.
