Got myself some free hugs from college student types in the Zocalo in Mexico City last summer as well.

Happy New Year, Anne Laurie, and everyone else! I love that video; someone sent it to me earlier this* year and I’m glad to see it again. This is the perfect day for it!

*by which I mean last year, of course.

Resolution for 2012 – go to Sondrio Italy. Second resolution for 2012, find Sondrio Italy on the map.

Happy New Year and let’s see who is hung over later.

Grazie for the Hugs tape. I passed it on. Still wondering why it made my face all wet. It was a beautiful and heart warming.

Happy New Year to all, although it always seemed to me that picking January 1st as the beginning of the new year was kind of arbitrary. In terms of astronomy, the winter solstice would make more sense…
Locally, today is the annual “Polar Bear Plunge”, where hundreds of people dash into the freezing waters of Nantucket Sound at high noon to raise money for charity. Honestly, I’m willing to contribute to good causes without anyone having to do this sort of stunt, but I must admit that it’s entertaining for the spectators and probably quite bracing for the participants.

I swear. I wake up and check into Balloon Juice….re-reading the Open Thread from last night….you guys are SO freakin’ funny….the rest of my household prolly thinks I am insane.

Live long and prosper, everyone.

Happy New Years all you princes of Maine, all you kings of New England. I feel better than I should – it must have been the lobster pie. Lobster is pretty much the answer to whatever ails you, and from my perch overlooking the mighty Kennebec on this glorious new day, anything seems possible. Onwards and upwards!

Now I feel smiley and choked up at the same time. I need a hug…

So the original version of Little Shop Of Horrors went over great last night. It is a bizarre funny movie & I recommend it.
But I started something. After Comedy Of Terrors last year & this year I am expected to come up with another winner for next NYE. Anybody have some recommendations?

@Schlemizel:
Good thing 2012 is a Leap Year so you have an extra day to think about it!

Moving video. Perfect to start out the new year. Happy New Year to everyone!

Ron Paul being interviewed by Candy Crowley, makes the “The Civil Rights act was unconstitutional because it took away your freedom of association” claim. TNC is going to have a field day.

@Schlemizel:
Do you specifically want another Roger Corman film, or just any good horror comedy? As far as Corman films go, The Raven is a companion piece to The Comedy of Terrors and has Jack Nicholson and Peter Lorre playing a very funny father and son. There’s also the original version of A Bucket of Blood (not the 1990s remake), which is along the lines of Little Shop of Horrors.
If you don’t want to do another Corman film, go with Shaun of the Dead.

@HRA: I guess it’s that compassion gene we have….like, walk a mile in the other dude’s moccasins?
Gawd, I am just DESTROYED today.
And yes…..Leonard Cohen. OH….yes.
Schlemizel
@Mnemosyne:
Does not have to be Corman but that sensibility seems right. I have The Raven, I’ll check that out. Its been years & I don’t remember Nicholson.
Neither wife nor MIL would enjoy Shaun. I loved it but it is too juicy for them. THANKS!

@Zagloba:
Jesus wept! You know while I disagree with these morons I can at least understand the thinking behind some of the anti-regulation movement. But anyone who thinks the CRA was wrong and is as old as Dr. Paul is a flaming idiot or sheet wearing racist. There is no excuse for that sort of ignorance. If you are too young to remember the era of segregation then you should have at least read about it; if you are that young & against the CRA you might not be a racist but you have no soul.
