Pretty fair summary of 2011, from the “unelected legislators of the world”, and my thanks to commentor Middlewest for reminding me about DJ Earworm.

Have to admit, I’m liking this mashup better than any of the originals, apart from Pink and Adele of course. Good thing I’m nowhere near the Billboard target demographic!

here’s a link to one of my favorite places on the web….
I used to spend hours plowing through the free galleries before I realized that I still had a job to do….

What a nice site! Thanks for the link.

Holy cow. I thought the earlier cole’s self-trolling thread on gg had the max no. of blog posts hitting the 450 mark.
This anti-mittens politico piece beats it hands down with 1.2k posts.
The rethugs base must be really, really pissed off.

exxon asks for 10 billion from venezuela and gets less than 1 billion.

Happy New Year (almost typed Nappy New Year!) Juicers – although I am not a part of the regular community, thanks for putting up with my bullshit.

More proof positive that there has not actually been any popular “music” created since the late 1980’s. Even music, not just the movies, is being destroyed by CGI, video, noise, and people pretending to be tough punks while dressed up in what they think are outrageous outfits. And the “music”? All sounds alike in its sad synthetic similitude.

Happy New Year’s Federal Holiday Day.
I can’t wait to see some surfing dogs on a float later today.

Yup. And three minutes too long. Turned it off out of boredom.

@harlana: oh harlana. yes you iz! I love your comments.
Also, World Go Boom is such a great title/phrase.
What else? Yay, BJ!

If there are any BJ followers with time on their hands and a taste for history…I strongly recommend Leningrad, by Anna Reid. Excellent read, although the story of the 1941-1944 siege is a terrible one.

@danielx: Enemy at the Gates is also great.

the movie sucked

Got an early start on my garden planting. We’ve had a specimen for years, I always thought it was a butterfly bush and it was really attractive to hummers and bugs. It’s in a bad spot so Mrs J prunes it back to the nub every year lest it becomes over dominate. The new one we will let grow just to see how it turns out.

Um. It’s poets who are the unelected legislators of the world, at least as far as Shelley was concerned, who first penned the phrase.

Dammit FYWP, am I tagged as a spammer again?

@HeartlandLiberal: Yep, I know, if they would just used different notes and different languages, they could have prevented this sort of thing.
The pieces DJ Earworm are so small, he could have done the same thing to any genre.
Get-off-my-radio arguments are really pointless.

That hummingbird moth is amazing!

@SiubhanDuinne: One of my favorite insects when they are adults. The kids are another thing entire.

I’m certain they will ignore this advice, but Benjamin Franklin, Kola Noscopy, and others who believe things about the NDAA’s detention provisions that are manifestly wrong should go read the two-part post by Marty Lederman and Steve Vladeck at Opinio Juris.

Stuff and/or nonsense. Open your ears.
Also too, poor recording techniques detract from, but should not be allowed to destroy, our enjoyment of good current music. Case in point: Adele’s 21, which is nearly unlistenable in its overly compressed mp3 versions, is a good-sounding vinyl record that reveals her to be an artist who should be taken seriously.

@Raven:
Yes, the movie version sucked on so many levels. Was glad to remove it from my DVD collection. Still waiting for a decent film treatment of Stalingrad.
“City of Thieves” is a very good recent novel set during the siege of Leningrad.

@jeffreyw: Nice photo stream, now I’m fracking HUNGRY.
