Loved this band.

The list keeps growing: Mississippi is getting in on the act even after the rejection of the personhood amendment. One way or another, it’s all about saving teh bebehs until they’re born. Then as soon as they’re out of the womb get a job you fucking moocher.

@handy: This song is a great illustration of learning more from a 3 minute record than I ever learned in school, to use some more 80’s lyrics.
THE
NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center has two terrific new videos about the Moon:
Evolution of the Moon
Tour of the Moon
Roger Moore
@Yutsano:
Every zygote deserves an equal opportunity to be born, no matter what its parents think. After birth, everything you do is your own achievement, so there’s no need to do anything more. It’s the wingnut version of equal opportunity for all.

OK, you’re dating yourself now.

I really miss the days when 10,000 Maniacs was the name of a really good band rather than a fair description of the GOP-controlled Congress and state legislatures in action.

The Administration wants to renew military aid to Egypt, but our obstructionist Congress is making things difficult.

“To restart the aid, which has been a cornerstone of American relations with Egypt for more than three decades, the administration plans on sidestepping a new Congressional requirement that for the first time directly links military assistance to the protection of basic freedoms.”

MSNBC reporting George Clooney along with NAACP President Ben Jealous, 3 Dem Senators and Clooney’s father Nick arrested in front of the Sudanese Embassy.
What will the cops do when the women of America run en masse to free Clooney? Watch out guys.
Seriously though, good on Clooney for at least using his celebrity for good and not Lindsay Lohan-ing it up.

Within weeks, Egyptian payments to American arms manufacturers will be endangered.

here’s the link which includes video:

@Mino: Actually Egypt builds American style arms in country. If they want M1 tanks, they have the factory there/

@lamh35: It’s certainly front and center at the Guard, with Rowan Williams stepping down much smaller. Might be nice to have a short celeb-induced breather for a half-day (in a decent cause en plus). (Yes, I’m putting off considering the mess the CoE will likely face for a later date.)

Did you know that the Monty Python’s Flying Circus troupe recorded two special episodes for Deutsch TV, completely in German?
I just found them by accident. Weirder than weird.

@ThatLeftTurnInABQ:
So true. Also, the Three Stooges were much less threatening but not necessarily funnier, before they decided to run for president.

@Joey Maloney: Is it really better in it’s original German?
Joey Maloney
@kindness: LOL
It’s just…odd.

OMFG they re-did the Lumberjack sketch!!
Amir Khalid
@Joey Maloney:
and how did you like the Bavarian Restaurant sketch?
,,Wir nehmen die Mantel in Bavaria! Ja in Bavaria, wo die Bäume aus Holz sind!”

So, any bets on what’s going in Mitt’s giant basement?
WereBear
@lamh35: Not only that… he’s an animal lover too. One of my favorite stories about him is when he did a short-term slot on Roseanne, and they had a trained pig for one episode. He liked the pig and asked what would happen to him after this gig… and wound up taking him home where he lived with the two dogs.
Comrade Mary
@Amir Khalid: I was scanning channels a couple of nights ago and landed halfway into a Simpsons episode where I thought the German pharmaceutical CEO sounded a lot like Werner Herzog.
Turns out it was Herzog, and he was brilliant.

I always liked 10,000 Maniacs. And Natalie Merchant always reminded me of Karen Allen’s character in Animal House. Melancholy, and trying to keep her head straight when everything around was falling apart. It was a worry in Reagan’s 1980’s and I guess it fits for these days, too, with the rise of Santorum-mania.
MikeBoyScout
Thanks for that.
Good news/Bad news is that there’s a fair amount of Natalie and the 10,000 Maniacs catalog that is going to be back in vogue. Back to the 80’s!

@gocart mozart:
That’s not where I thought you were going with that. When I heard Three Stooges, I immediately thought of Boehner, Cantor and McConnel.
