Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Hell hath no fury like a farmer bankrupted.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

The republican speaker is a slippery little devil.

Republicans: “Abortion is murder but you can take a bus to get one.” Easy peasy.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

“Just close your eyes and kiss the girl and go where the tilt-a-whirl takes you.” ~OzarkHillbilly

Giving in to doom is how authoritarians win.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls 2 years from now.

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

If you voted for Trump, you don’t get to speak about ethics, morals, or rule of law.

No one could have predicted…

Everybody saw this coming.

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

The lights are all blinking red.

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

Seventeen if you know what I mean

A fascinating snippet from a Broder thumbsucker about Bob Bennett:

At the fringe, the movement to purge him took on aspects of ideological extremism, Bennett said. “I was asked several times about my position on the 17th Amendment, providing for the direct election of senators,” he said. “They viewed that as the opening effort by Washington to usurp the power that the Constitution had placed in the hand of state legislatures.”

Have any of you heard of this criticism of the 17th Amendment before? I don’t understand how replacing a vote by a state’s legislators with a vote by the state’s citizens makes Washington more powerful.

I never thought I would recommend a Larry King interview with a geriatric rocker, but I highly recommend tuning into the Larry King interview with Mick Jagger tonight — there’s 15 minutes left in EST but it probably hasn’t started yet elsewhere. Great live footage! And is it a coincidence that the NBA is using “Rip This Joint” as as its theme song? Thanks to the commenters for directing me to the “Plundered My Soul” YouTube. Also too.

Trying to keep the Exile on Main Street re-release posts to a mininum here, but yeah, I’m excited.

A Rambling Open Thread

I was wondering why the HGTV channel features lots of homes, but no gardening. Is there no channel that discusses gardening?

Also, as I told someone last night, when the revolution comes, if I am in charge, first against the wall are the 20 something newlyweds on House Hunters who freak out that their first home might not have all stainless steel appliances or who summarily reject any house in which the bathrooms do not have two sinks.

Here are some pictures of the dogs today:

Having three dogs is exhausting. I have no idea how my parents dealt with four kids, a dog, two cats, a rabbit, and fish.

Figured you all would want an open thread to discuss the election results, so hear you go.

Got the garage cleaned out and scrubbed, got the spider plants potted, house is cleaned, got those beautiful pictures I had framed hung, and picked up a Composter. I went through all the suggestions but just decided this was all I needed for clippings and the like. When it fills, I will just pick up another one. Finally going to get around to getting the garden plowed and put in. I’m late this year.

Almost had an amazing picture of a male and female cardinal chilling on the birdfeeder next to the rhododendron, and then Lily barked and sent all the birds scattering into the wind.

Marc Ambinder, you’re a smart guy and have really been on your game for the past couple of months, but could you please quit pretending she is the one writing this crap? She doesn’t write the footnoted brainfarts on facebook, and she didn’t write that attack on Huntsman.

She has no damned clue who Jon Huntsman, JR. is, and if you asked her, she’d probably tell you “Of course I support all those huntsmen out there with their right to bear arms to hunt and fish and catch what they eat the way we do up here in Alaska, you betcha.”

*** Update ***

Synchronicity.

Sign the petition to ask Sarah Palin to tell the truth. I get a stipend for every petition you sign.

I went to check out this video recommendation from wag in the comments, and saw that YouTube has a “5 Years Old” banner. Here’s the video, and an open thread in honor of that completely taken for granted, yet very young, site.

Another content free day from me. Sorry.

We went to the greenhouse, was doing some work work that had to be done by tomorrow, and then cleaning.

Was so happy with my Fiskars Weeder /Dandelion Implement of Destruction that I went ahead and picked up a Fiskars Edger today.

BTW- do you have any idea how hard it is to find a decent wheelbarrow? All the big box stores seem to have an exclusive contract with True-Temper, and their wheelbarrows are crap.
