Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. keep building.

If you cannot answer whether trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.

Republicans: “Abortion is murder but you can take a bus to get one.” Easy peasy.

He really is that stupid.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

Tide comes in. Tide goes out. You can’t explain that.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

People really shouldn’t expect the government to help after they watched the GOP drown it in a bathtub.

I’m more christian than these people and i’m an atheist.

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

Not loving this new fraud based economy.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

Someone should tell Republicans that violence is the last refuge of the incompetent, or possibly the first.

If you can’t control your emotions, someone else will.

Stay strong, because they are weak.

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

I don’t recall signing up for living in a dystopian sci-fi novel.

“Alexa, change the president.”

To the privileged, equality seems like oppression.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Food for Thought

by John Cole|  January 13, 20051:47 am| 16 Comments

This post is in: Open Threads

As part of a series of lifestyle changes that I am undertaking to add to assist my healthy and longevity, I am finally breaking down and visiting a dietician/nutritionist. At any rate, whenever I discuss diets/dieting with my mother, she invariably mentions her favorite diet of all times, one that one of her co-workers always uses.

The diet? To eat only foods he doesn’t like. Works like a charm for him, and the lbs shed off. My problem is that other than Stuffed Peppers and Liver and ONions, there are no foods I dislike. I like everything.

At any rate, point ofthis post- What foods can you not tolerate?

I am sorry, Glenn. Only unwashed barbarians percolate their coffee. Everyone knows the best coffee in the world comes from a French Press, like this one from Bodum:

Buy one here at Amazon, you will never drink coffee any other way ever again.

BTW- Time to pay for the domain name registry, so if you want to kick in some change, here be the PyaPal icon. Much thanks in advance.

Here is a resolution I should make:

I resolve to be less of an asshole to those who don’t deserve it, and more of one to those that do.

Eco-Terrorism

by John Cole|  December 18, 200412:10 pm| 15 Comments

This post is in: Open Threads

Turns out the case I discussed in this post was not eco-terrorism, but in fact something far more common- a pissed employee:

security guard accused of burning down homes at the suburban Washington housing development where he worked told investigators he was upset his employer did not show enough sympathy after his infant son died this year.

Aaron L. Speed, 21, who worked for Security Services of America, told police he left his job from August to October because of SSA’s “indifference to the death of his infant son,” according to court papers released Friday.

When asked by investigators who might have started the fire, Speed said: “Someone who works at the site and recently experienced a great loss.”

A relative said Speed lost an infant son earlier this year.

Speed had been hired to protect the Hunters Brooke development, where a string of fires Dec. 6 destroyed 10 houses and damaged 16 others. Authorities said it was the biggest residential arson case in Maryland history, with damage put at $10 million. No one was hurt in the fires; many of the houses were under construction.

Early on, there was speculation the fires were set by environmental extremists, because some environmental groups had complained that the houses were a threat to a nearby bog. But no evidence has been found to support that theory, police said.

Several readers think I should be ‘eating crow’ regarding this, and I am not sure why. All I did was state that eco-terrorism should be treated more seriously, as I was relying on the media suggestions that this was in fact eco-terrorism.

As for eating crow- piss off. I don’t think the ELF and ALF and EarthFirst, whose websites all advocate arson (or have in the past), have been unfairly smeared by this website.
