Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

One way or another, he’s a liar.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

This fight is for everything.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

Innocent people do not delay justice.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Of course you can have champagne before noon. That’s why orange juice was invented.

When you’re in more danger from the IDF than from Russian shelling, that’s really bad.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

Also, are you sure you want people to rate your comments?

Books are my comfort food!

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

They don’t have outfits that big. nor codpieces that small.

This must be what justice looks like, not vengeful, just peaceful exuberance.

America is going up in flames. The NYTimes fawns over MAGA celebrities. No longer a real newspaper.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

Running In the Red: A New Series

From TaMara: What a year this week has been. I am committed to focusing on the good things, mostly Artemis II to the moon, and of course, our brave candidates running in red states and districts.  On the homefront, gardening and critters. I am also making an effort to get out in the community more to make sure those who feel as I do, know I’m out here with them.

If you need some feel good vibes, here is Nora (my duck) having a spa day: Duck Zen   Nothing brightens  a day like a duck taking a shower.

We have a new candidate! And she has critters!

And because both MazeDancer and I think time is of the essence, and we can all use some feel-good stories, we are not limiting ourselves to primary winners. Especially with late-in-the-summer primaries. We aren’t picking favorites, either. Any Democratic primary candidate is welcome to join our little adventure.

Finally, a reminder: this is an opportunity to reach out to those souls running in deep Red Districts or Red States and learn what their experience has been. Is there a shifting landscape? Are they finding support from unusual people? What made them run?

What this isn’t. We are not endorsing any candidate, we just want to learn about their journey. Of course, if later we find out they are a closet Nazi-racist-transphobe-rapist, we’ll deal with that appropriately. We don’t play here.  FAFO

Running in the Red: Out on the Trail

From TaMara: And we are back with another taste of what we are trying to do here. Thanks to Grace Van Cleave for being a willing volunteer to help us perfect the format. Today we follow her out on the trail and learn what voters are saying in Iowa.

(Point of privilege for a Nebraska-born, theatre girl to add):

For those who don’t know, I am, by the grace of redistricting, next door to Lauren Boebert’s district. I USED to be in her district and repped by the odious and corrupt Ken Buck, thank heavens that nightmare is over. Now my representative is the amazing Joe Neguse, who rails against Trump and the GOP any chance he gets. We need a hundred more with his courage and convictions.

Anyway, back to Boebert. There are two very fine Democratic candidates running in the primary to unseat her. I have a preference, but it’s not my district, so I’ll remain neutral. But once that race is decided, I will do my best to bring the Dem candidate to the Running in the Red adventure. Wouldn’t that be fun?

A reminder: this is an opportunity to reach out to those souls running in deep Red Districts or Red States and learn what their experience has been. Is there a shifting landscape? Are they finding support from unusual people? What made them run?

In Iowa, you don’t have to be running for office to hear angry complaints about the sky-rocketing cost of living.

This! This is why MazeDancer and I want to talk to Red State/District candidates, because there is a sea change happening and we believe they are on the ground experiencing it. They feel the tremors of the earthquake that is coming.

From TaMara: Now that we put our toe in the water, it’s time to find more candidates. Remember this is an opportunity to reach out to those souls running in deep Red Districts or Red States and learn what their experience has been. Is there a shifting landscape? **Wouldn’t want to besmirch a blog with such a pristine reputation**

You’ll see some cute kittehs in this post. Let me be clear, they are not running for anything except the cabinet of extreme cuteness.  But I thought MazeDancer needed to offer the appropriate fee for being on the front page.

Running In The Red: A New Series

by TaMara|  March 18, 20265:30 pm| 30 Comments

This post is in: Democratic Politics, Political Action, Politics, Proud to Be A Democrat, Running in the Red

Note from TaMara: A month or so ago (time has no meaning any longer) MazeDancer commented about her niece running for office in a very red district. I said, “hey, what I can I do to help? ” A few emails back and forth, and Running in the Red was hatched. MazeDancer has done all the heavy lifting so far. I mostly ran the idea by the Blogfather and did a lot of cheerleading. Rah!

I really love this idea because I don’t think we understand what it takes to run blue in a red district/state. And I believe it’s a perspective that we need. Hear about the candidates’ experiences and what we can all do to help flip those red races.

What you will find below is the start of what I hope is something good. And hopefully also a new front pager.

For it to continue, we will need your input and the willingness of the candidates to participate.

Without further ado….here is the inaugural post.
