I did not have this on my fuck 2025 bingo card.

I just saw Solaris, starring George Clooney, and I think it was one of the best sci-fi flicks I have seen in years. Why did I not hear anything about it? I highly recommend it.

I almost rented Solaris, but BlockBuster was out. Instead, I settled for Final Destination 2, which is likely to be one of the worst horror films in years :-)

Was it that good? I almost went to see it, just for Natascha McElhone, but I couldn’t persuade the Better Half. Well, that’s why God made Blockbuster Video.

Hrmm. I thought it was great. Maybe it got bad reviews because it was slow-paced.

    And Natasha McElhone is gorgeous.

I’ve never heard of it either, though I don’t go see many movies. Will have to check it out.

It’s because of John Ashcroft’s squashing of dissent! Clooney bravely criticized this Administration, and this is how they repaid him!

    (Bad joke. Sorry.)

FYI, if you didn’t know–Solaris is a remake. The original was done by a Russian named Andrei Tarkovsky and is very good as well.

Saw the original, very slow with crude FX, but had some great scenes. Like when they’re talking and an elaborate silver tea service appears on the table between them, and we realize reality is being changed around them and they don’t know it. Or the “I hate these-resurections.” scene. Plus it had a better ending.

Rent the original next time you have four hours, a joint, and no interuptions.

“Solaris” w/G. Clooney is great. Truley great. I saw it at the movies and though I got in free (sneak preview…) I would’ve paid. I’m a big fan of the Russian film and a bigger fan of Lem’s book. A true sf fan must see the Russian film as well. The latest one is possibly the best SF movie in the last 20 years.
