Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

If a good thing happens for a bad reason, it’s still a good thing.

Tide comes in. Tide goes out. You can’t explain that.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

The lights are all blinking red.

When you’re in more danger from the IDF than from Russian shelling, that’s really bad.

Not all heroes wear capes.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

The republican speaker is a slippery little devil.

“Perhaps I should have considered other options.” (head-desk)

“I was told there would be no fact checking.”

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

Do we throw up our hands or do we roll up our sleeves? (hint, door #2)

Since we are repeating ourselves, let me just say fuck that.

Trump should be leading, not lying.

Republicans do not trust women.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

The economy is roaring back, growing at a rate of 8.2%. Consumer confidence is up, construction is up, retailsales are up, inventories grew modestly, and inflation did not change.

Steve Verdon has more, meanwhile, the Econopundit catches Krugman in another lie.

The President obviously did not mean to refer, in context, to certain rarified theoreticians who share his side of the political spectrum. He meant to cast straw man aspersions on his fiscally sane opponents, none of whom would prefer that the recession be deeper.

The context is pretty clear; the President sought to tar his political opponents, and Krugman was right to call him on it.

Krugamn, by my count, has written three columns on this topic calling Bush a liar from this specific quote. Except, he isn’t lying. Now you are going to rush to the defense of Krugman, who, with his knowledge, is distorting the truth?

There is aword I am looking for- oh, yeah.

Bush painted his political opponents as wishing that the recession had been deeper and longer.

    They do not.

    He was lying.

No, he didn’t. And as the economy recovers right in time for 2004, due in large part to the tax cuts, I am willing to bet that not only are there ‘some’ Democrats who wished the recession was deeper and loger, but a GREAT NUMBER of them.

Was it my imagination or did the estimated deficit just go up?

    Cole-

    In Re: Krugman

EconoPundit is full of shit. Krugman is quoting Bush’s Labor Day address.

He admits he screwed up in an update, but I don’t really see much of an apology for calling Krugman a liar and a plagiarist.

Actually, I take that back about EconoPundit’s update – it has not the slightest hint of an apology for leveling serious charges at Krugman that have now been completely disproven beyond a shadow of a doubt.

I stand by my charge that EconoPundit is full of shit.

    Perhaps you should update too?
