Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Fucking consultants! (of the political variety)

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

I don’t recall signing up for living in a dystopian sci-fi novel.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

If you are still in the gop, you are either an extremist yourself, or in bed with those who are.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls 2 years from now.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

She burned that motherfucker down, and I am so here for it. Thank you, Caroline Kennedy.

You’re just a puppy masquerading as an old coot.

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” was supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

“In this country American means white. everybody else has to hyphenate.”

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

One way or another, he’s a liar.

Not rolling over. fuck you, make me.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

Republicans in disarray!

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

This was written near a year ago, but is probably the best assessment of the Pickering nomination.

‘Racism, Injustice, Humiliation’

Hanna Rosin’s unsettling editorial in the WaPo today isn’t about racism. It is about injustice and humiliation, and more importantly, incompetence. The INS is a complete basket case, and something serious needs to be done about it. Unfortunately, it probably won’t happen. I am so glad we federalized airline security.

Democratic Underground Morons

by John Cole|  January 11, 200312:29 am| Leave a Comment

This post is in: General Stupidity

Right-Wing News located this disturbing thread.

Some lowlights:

I’m wrong to feel this way, and I know it. But I can’t help myself — no way do I want to see the United States succeed in this “war” with Iraq. This may sound traitorous to some. And I’ll understand your flames.

It might sound traitorous because it is, you dolt. At least she understands she is a moron. Big of her, no?

Idiots. There is nothing unpatriotic about principled opposition to the war. Nothing whatsoever. I will never flame anyone for making a principled stand on war- hell, I come from Quaker ancestry- they know something about opposition to war. Actively rooting for us to lose a war, however immoral you may believe it is, crosses a line.

Volunteer Fascists

by John Cole|  January 11, 200312:13 am| Leave a Comment

This post is in: General Stupidity

I am glad that the tragic story of the police in Tennesee shooting a family pet in a routine traffic stop is getting a lot of air time, and I hope everyone views it. There is a policing problem in this country. It starts with the police. If the police can say that shooting a family pet in front of children is the appropriate response and according to department policy, let me suggest it is time to re-work the policies of the department. This is also not the first time this department has been involved in wrong-doings. The word fascist is thrown out a lot by Democrats when talking about conservatives. I don’t know the political affiliation of these guys, but fascist sounds about right.

Signs

I just saw Signs. I was disappointed. I think M. Night has caught Tarantino syndrome- each movie gets progressively worse.
