Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

There are more Russians standing up to Putin than Republicans.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

A lot of Dems talk about what the media tells them to talk about. Not helpful.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

I really should read my own blog.

There is no compromise when it comes to body autonomy. You either have it or you don’t.

Found liable for massive fraud, is required to post a massive bond, gets a break, then files a *fraudulent* bond!

Glad to see john eastman going through some things.

Let’s finish the job.

“That’s what the insurrection act is for!”

Every reporter and pundit should have to declare if they ever vacationed with a billionaire.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

After dobbs, women are no longer free.

I have other things to bitch about but those will have to wait.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

Please don’t feed the bears.

I did not have this on my fuck 2022 bingo card.

Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

Charles Dodgson Asks:

Am I the only person who suspects that the Republican failure to extend unemployment benefits last month was a deliberate ploy to let them bundle the extension in with Dubya’s tax package, to try to make it look a little more balanced?

It sure would have been good politics.

Via Avedon Carol’s Sideshow. I have added The Sideshow to the perma-links. I think I have only agreed with Avedon once, but I like balance (in the links, at least) here, and it is always good to see what the left is thinking, and The Sideshow is a good read.

Paging Joseph Biden

This post is in: Democratic Stupidity

In the opening of his State of the State speech, Gov. Gray Davis used the same ideas and many of the same words that President Clinton used in his first State of the Union address — a similarity so striking that it prompted charges Thursday of plagiarism.

In his speech, seen by many as the most important of his career, Davis on Wednesday echoed themes Clinton had outlined 10 years earlier: In both cases, the politicians said the ailing economy demanded their full attention and that only a united effort could rescue the economy from its doldrums.

Davis even repeated one sentence verbatim. Referring to the economies of the United States in 1993 and California in 2003, both said, “But these are not ordinary times.”

Steve Maviglio, Davis’ spokesman, declined to comment. The governor’s speech writer, Jason Kinney, dismissed the parallels as an “accidental homage.”

Hey- cut him some slack. What is a little perjury plagiarism amongst friends?

*** UPDATE ***

Joe Arrieta, who is no right winger, SAVAGES Davis in a post in the must-read Political State Report. Who exactly voted for this guy?

Joe states emphatically:

What I wouldn

Clinton Jokes

by John Cole|  January 10, 20034:32 pm| Leave a Comment

This post is in: Humorous

Here is my nasty Clinton joke for the week-end:

Bill Clinton started jogging near his new home in Chappaqua.
But on each run, he happened to jog past a hooker standing on
the same street corner, day after day.

With some apprehension he would brace himself as he approached
her for what was most certainly to follow. “Fifty dollars!”
she would shout from the curb. “No. Five dollars!” fired back
Clinton. This ritual between Bill and the hooker continued for
days. He’d run by. She’d holler, “Fifty dollars!” He’d yell
back, “Five dollars!”

One day however, Hillary decided that she wanted to accompany
her husband on his jog. As the jogging couple neared the
problematic street corner, Bill realized the “pro” would bark
her $50 offer and Hillary would wonder what Bill had been
really doing on all his past outings. He realized he should
have a darn good explanation for the junior Senator.

As they jogged into the turn that would take them past the
corner, Bill became even more apprehensive than usual. Sure
enough, there was the hooker where she always stood. Bill tried
to evade the prostitute’s eyes as she watched the pair jog
past.

Then, from the sidewalk, the hooker yelled, “See what you get
for five bucks!”

See, Hesiod? Republicans do have a sense of humor.

Gotta love Drudge. North Korea is saber-rattling and pulling out of the NNT, and Drudge’s headline is, in big bold letters:

MOTTOLA OUT AT SONY RECORDS!

You Have to BE Kidding Me

I read this editorial in the NY Times, and I was shocked. You mean to tell me, that in 2003, we don’t videotape confessions? It should be mandatory. If anyone can come up with a reason why it shouldn’t be, I am all ears.

The Socialism of Fools

This post is in: Foreign Affairs

Tony Blair appears to have set himself his toughest task yet. Neither reforming public services nor maintaining economic stability compares in difficulty to the mission he took on yesterday. For a Labour politician to confront anti-Americanism is to set himself up in opposition to the dominant ideology of the contemporary Left.
Knocking America off its superpower pedestal has long supplanted taking control of the commanding heights of the economy as the idea which holds the Left together. Forget Clause Four. That was a dead red letter. It
