People keep talking about revisionist history, so I think it is important to remember how much the left really HATED Ronald Reagan. We are talking a level of hatred on par with the ugliest of the Clinton bashers- he was ‘the dumbest President ever,’ he was a ‘cowboy,’ a ‘warmongerer,’ and on and on and on.
That is why I am laughing every time I see a Liberal praising Reagan in order to attack George Bush- as in today’s Krugman article, which I will save you the time of reading.
Shorter Paul Krugman– Reagan was Bad. Bush is Worse.
Can these guys be more transparent and phony?
Harley
Shorter Cole: I will ignore the thesis, not to mention the numbers that back it up, in Krugman’s article becuz facts are inconvenient things and I’d rather throw spittle darts at those I disagree with.
(Well, a little shorter.)
John Cole
Once again, missing thepoint. Krugman is accurate, Reagan did reverse his policies.
The point, however, is that it is only in the context of attacking Bush that Krugman and others would ever say anything positive about Reagan.
Really- can you guys not read?
Kimmitt
I don’t think the Left ever sank to the level of calling Reagan’s daughter the “White House Dog,” so you can relax, confident that right-wing hatred will always trump left-wing hatred.
John Cole
The right didn’t sink to that level, either. One man did- but I guess that is the same thing, right, Kimmitt?

As if the left has been nothing but respectful to Jenna and Barbara… hell, Mike Malloy alone has all but cursed the entire Bush family. I recall him saying that the children are “just as guilty” a few years back. And let’s not go into Randi Rhodes…
For the record, this is from the Nov. 6, ’92 Rush Limbaugh TV show:
Years later, when he ran into Hillary at a party, he apologized personally for the gaffe/joke (you be the judge). Think Randi or Mike will apologize to Bush anytime soon?
HH
Gah, not that blockquote stuff again… The transcript ends with “We’re trying to…”

I don’t understand. Not mentioning Reagan at all would be awkward and conspicuous. Bashing him would be inappropriate. False praise would be, well, “transparent and phony.” So instead he tries to find a balance by being honest without going on a rampage – ‘I didn’t like Reagan’s policies, but I appreciate that his decisions were sensible within his own framework.’ He’s not pretending to like Reagan, and he’s not hiding the fact that he’s going after Bush, so I don’t understand the complaint.
