Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

He wakes up lying, and he lies all day.

Prediction: the gop will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

When I was faster i was always behind.

Republicans do not trust women.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

Do we throw up our hands or do we roll up our sleeves? (hint, door #2)

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.”

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

I really should read my own blog.

Every decision we make has lots of baggage with it, known or unknown.

At some point, the ability to learn is a factor of character, not IQ.

Today in our ongoing national embarrassment…

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

“But what about the lurkers?”

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

After dobbs, women are no longer free.

Giving in to doom is how we fail to fight for ourselves & one another.

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

Tide comes in. Tide goes out. You can’t explain that.

Is trump is trying to break black America over his knee? signs point to ‘yes’.

Paranoia on the campaign trail.

by John Cole|  January 23, 20044:43 pm| 5 Comments

This post is in: Politics

This is just absurd:

Presidential candidate Wesley Clark on Friday complained that one of the moderators in Thursday night’s debate was carrying out a Republican agenda by questioning his Democratic credentials.

Brit Hume of Fox News Channel, who worked as both moderator and questioner during the two-hour debate with the seven candidates, pressed Clark about when he had first realized he was a Democrat.

Clark told reporters Friday, “I looked at who was asking the questions, and I think that was part of the Republican agenda in the debate.”

It should be clear by now that clark is in way over his head, and he will simply say anything to remain afloat.

If there is any Republican agenda in the Democratic debates, it is to keep encouraging the Dems to have them. I could use about 10-15 more nationally televised debates with the Democrats all beating the crap out of each other. That is my agenda.

Rank Order of the Candidates

by John Cole|  January 23, 20044:39 pm| 14 Comments

This post is in: Politics

If I had to rank order which of the Democratic candidates I would vote for and in what order, it would currently look something like this:

1.) Lieberman
2.) Edwards (who, IMHO, looks better every day)
3.) Kerry

4.) Dean
5.) Clark
6.) Kucinich
7.) Sharpton

I put a space in between 3 and 4, because once you are past Kerry, the other candidates just aren’t worth my serious consideration.

What Speech Did Oliver See?

by John Cole|  January 22, 200412:08 am| 8 Comments

Oliver watched a different SOTU address last night:

That speech last night said “Even though I am the commander in chief, I have to keep defending my positions and decisions from this group of Democrats. Maybe they have a point. Several, even. That raises the question: what the hell am I doing up here?”

I don;t know what Oliver is smoking on this one, but if anything, the speech was too strident, not too defensive. He called the Democrats out on every single issue.

Dean ‘Toning’ Down the Rhetoric

by John Cole|  January 21, 200411:58 pm| 15 Comments

I guess Howard Dean is now on a whirlwind ‘No, I Am Not A Screaming Maniac, I only Play one on TV” tour:

Senior aides to Howard Dean took several steps on Wednesday to overhaul his candidacy, including softening the tone of his speeches and eliminating high-voltage campaign rallies in favor of dignified appearances where he would present himself as a mature ex-governor with a command of health care and the economy.

The moves came as senior advisers expressed concern in interviews that Dr. Dean’s candidacy was imperiled after a third-place finish in Iowa and a roaring, raucous concession speech that many opponents have held up as evidence that Dr. Dean is unfit to be president.

I only have one thing to say to that- YEarGagEh!

Seriously, though- shouldn’t we consider Deans previous umpteen hundred gaffes and bizarre policy positions as more important pieces of evidence that he should not be President?

Lehane v. Matthews

by John Cole|  January 21, 200411:46 pm| 3 Comments

This post is in: General Stupidity

I had completely forgotten about this exchange between Chris Matthews and Chris Lehane late Monday night during the Iowa Caucus wrap-up, but Henry Hanks reminded me. I will postthe entire transcript: in the extended entry, but it really does not do justice to the verbal exchange.

At any rate, read the transcript. Lehane is without a doubt the sleaziest human being in politics (move over Blumenthal), a thoroughly reprehensible loud-mouthed little punk who is now only the second person to make me physically angry every time I see him on tv (Michael Savage, who I saw twice on MSNBC, is numero uno- even Lehane can’t shake a stick at that disgusting piece of bile). I wish Lehane had been in the studio with Matthews, because I bet he would have puched the little twerp. At anyrate, I would love to see John Kerry make it so this smug punk never works in politics again.

Actually, if that happened, the NY Times would probably hire him to do some ‘objective reporting.’

Why I Ignore Peace Protestors

by John Cole|  January 21, 200411:26 pm| 3 Comments

This post is in: General Stupidity

This just amuses me:

Kenyans in colorful robes and headgear, South Koreans with blue peace signs painted on their faces and Britons carrying posters of Prime Minister Tony Blair and President Bush crossed out in black joined thousands of others marching through the congested streets of Bombay on Wednesday to denounce the Iraq war. It was a demonstration that marked the close of the fourth annual World Social Forum.

Delegates carrying placards that read “Iraq is not for sale” and “End occupation of Iraq” elbowed others who raised slogans of “Down with war, down with Bush” and caused chaos in downtown Bombay. Police officers brandishing riot sticks could barely keep the crowds under control.

If there were just one protestor dressed up as Castro with a ‘Free Cuba Now!’ sign, or one guy with a ‘Free North Korea Now!’ sign, I would pay attention to these people.

By the way, try to spot the irony in this sentence:

The freewheeling nature of the forum, however, did not find unanimous support even within India. A splinter group of far left elements called for a violent movement against globalization and war.

For their sake, I hope to God the French don’t see this:

We all know that nothing gives the French an itchy trigger finger like a rainbow-festooned peace boat full of smelly protestors.
