Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

The real work of an opposition party is to hold the people in power accountable.

They don’t have outfits that big. nor codpieces that small.

My right to basic bodily autonomy is not on the table. that’s the new deal.

I don’t recall signing up for living in a dystopian sci-fi novel.

Republicans don’t lie to be believed, they lie to be repeated.

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

I would gladly pay you tuesday for a hamburger today.

The fundamental promise of conservatism all over the world is a return to an idealized past that never existed.

Trump should be leading, not lying.

Disagreements are healthy; personal attacks are not.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

The current Supreme Court is a dangerous, rogue court.

Shut up, hissy kitty!

The National Guard is not Batman.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Republicans: slavery is when you own me. freedom is when I own you.

When we show up, we win.

Not loving this new fraud based economy.

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

Dumb motherfuckers cannot understand a consequence that most 4 year olds have fully sorted out.

Misinformed Comment- Blame The Jews

by John Cole|  December 13, 20042:11 pm| 12 Comments

This post is in: General Stupidity

Michael Totten catches Juan Cole engaged in his favorite past-time- blaming the Jews. Juan Cole’s quote:

The Iraqi killer of Reserve Navy Lt. Kylan Jones-Huffman has been brought to justice in an Iraqi court. Although he has since changed his story, he at one point admitted to killing Jones-Huffman with a bullet through the back of the neck while the latter was stuck in traffic in downtown Hilla. The assassin said that he felt that Jones-Huffman “looked Jewish.” The fruits of hatred sowed in the Middle East by aggressive and expansionist Israeli policies in the West Bank and Gaza against the Palestinians and in south Lebanon against Shiites continue to be harvested by Americans.

Totten has it right, in far fewer words:

An American was murdered by an Iraqi because he “looked Jewish” and Professor Juan Cole (perhaps the most over-rated blogger in the world) blames, wait for it, Israel!

I wish I could take some pleasure in saying ‘I told ya so,’ but I can’t. Remember in April, when we had several security guards murdered and their bodies burned and hung from bridges? Juan Cole knew who to blame then, too:

There is increasing evidence that the brutal attack on the American security guards in Fallujah, and the desecration of their bodies, was the work of Islamists seeking vengeance for the Israeli murder of Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin. Leaflets found at the scene said the operation was in the name of Yassin. al-Hayat reports in its Friday edition that responsibility for the attack has been taken by a group called Phalanges of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin. The group said the deaths were a “gift to the Palestinian people.”

You put yourself in the shoes of an American military commander in Fallujah. He treats with the local clan leaders and Sunni clergy. He tries to get them on the side of the US. He faces hostility, but he is making some progress. And then Ariel Sharon sends US-made helicopter gunships to Gaza and has them fire missiles at people coming out of a mosque, killing 8 and wounding 24. One of the dead is a half-blind paraplegic Islamist named Sheikh Yassin. He could have easily been arrested, and had been in the 1990s. But he was incinerated in a piece of state terror instead. And all of a sudden the people of Fallujah in Iraq are pointing their fingers at the American troops and saying, ‘you did this. You gave Sharon the green light.’ And all the commander’s hard work in building bridges collapses over night. And four US security personnel are dead, and 5 US troops are dead, and the fighting flares up. Thanks, Prime Minister Sharon. Thank you very much.

You got it- the people responsible for the murders by Islamists in Fallujah were none other than Ariel Sharon and Israel.

Domestic Terrorism

This post is in: Domestic Politics

This needs more attention:

A dozen empty houses in a new Maryland subdivision that is the focus of a long-running environmental dispute were destroyed and numerous others were damaged yesterday in what officials said were more than 20 coordinated, methodically planned arsons.

No one was hurt, but the attack left the Hunters Brooke subdivision, near Indian Head in Charles County, scarred with blackened, gutted houses and terrified residents in the quiet community near the Potomac River about 25 miles downstream from the District.

For the past five years, two subdivisions in the area, Hunters Brooke and the yet-to-be-built Falcon Ridge, have been a source of fierce opposition from environmental groups, which have sued the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers for allowing houses to be built in the area.

Environmentalists assert that the houses will damage Araby Bog, a 6.5-acre wetlands area that is home to endangered insects and such rare plants as the halberd-leaved greenbrier and red milkweed. The bog filters rain and upwelling waters that feed into the nearby Mattawoman Creek and the Potomac.

These eco-terrorists are ever bit as much trouble as the vile abortion clinic bombers and various other domestic fruitcakes that plague the nation. They should be dealt with harshly.

Success Story- But Will You Hear About It

Great news in Afghanistan:

Hamid Karzai was sworn in Tuesday as Afghanistan’s first popularly elected president, calling for sustained help from the international community to bolster a young democracy that still faces the twin threats of terrorism and drugs.

The U.S.-backed leader, wearing a traditional green robe and a black lambskin hat, took the oath of office in a solemn ceremony in a restored hall of the war-damaged former royal palace.

Vice President Dick Cheney, the highest-ranking American official to visit Afghanistan since the fall of the Taliban in 2001, and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld were among those who gave Karzai a standing ovation when he arrived.

Except to the Michael Moore wing of the political sphere, I mean the Democrats, all that matters is that Karzai is a puppet who was once an advisor to Unocal. Except he wasn’t, although if in 20 years something bad happens in Afghanistan, you can be sure the loony left will use the pictures of Cheney and Rumsfeld as proof that the Republicans caused the problem.

More on the House N****RS

Another fine specimen from the party of tolerance and diversity:

Speaking on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” the Nevada Democrat minced no words when asked about Thomas being a possible replacement for Chief Justice William Rehnquist.

“I think that he (Thomas) has been an embarrassment to the Supreme Court,” Reid said. “I think that his opinions are poorly written. I just don’t think that he’s done a good job as a Supreme Court justice.”

Colin, Condi, Clarence- the message is clear. Leave the plantation, and the Democrats are going to be pissed.

11-1

It was a close one, but this picture says it all:

Pittsburgh Steelers Ricardo Colclough, 21, left, kicker Jeff Reed, 3, Antwaan Randle El, 82, and holder Chris Gardocki, 17, celebrate their winning field goal with just 18 seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter Sunday night, December 5, 2004 at Alltel Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.

If you haven’t heard the details, go here, but in the hardest hitting game I have seen in- well, this season at leat, the Steelers managed to mount a last minute drive to score the game winning field goal.

17-16.

Big Ben improved to 10-0 as the Steelers improved to 11-1, and Ben’s last minute drive was a thing of beauty.

Winning feels good.

Seatbelts, Please

Comparisons like this make me almost blow a gasket:

As demonstrators cheer the restoration of democracy to their beleaguered country, Ohio officials continue to deny it.

In the face of obvious fraud, Ukraine’s Supreme Court has thrown out an apparent coup for the incumbent and ordered a new election. That’s what needs to happen here.

But despite growing national pressure and a major demonstration scheduled for tomorrow, Ohio’s Republican Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell continues to stonewall a true recount in the state that allegedly gave George W. Bush another term.

Reverend Jesse Jackson and Congressman John Conyers will be among the speakers at a statehouse rally tomorrow demanding explanations for apparent irregularities in the November 2 Ohio vote…

The litany of apparent theft, fraud and manipulation surrounding the Ohio vote is growing with each passing day.

Which leads to the ultimate question: if Ukraine can get a new election, why can’t we?

Because massivewidespread vote fixing, intimidation, and ballot stuffing is the same as a few long lines and inaccurate initial reports.

Really- they are the same.

It is too bad we can not put the loony left progressives and the Falwell wing of the Republican party on a boat, send it out to sea, and then sink it.
