Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

If ‘weird’ was the finish line, they ran through the tape and kept running.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Republican also-rans: four mules fighting over a turnip.

One of our two political parties is a cult whose leader admires Vladimir Putin.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

Second rate reporter says what?

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

We are learning that “working class” means “white” for way too many people.

The fight for our country is always worth it. ~Kamala Harris

These are not very smart people, and things got out of hand.

Innocent people do not delay justice.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Text STOP to opt out of updates on war plans.

American history and black history cannot be separated.

You would normally have to try pretty hard to self-incriminate this badly.

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

If you can’t control your emotions, someone else will.

He wakes up lying, and he lies all day.

Armstrong Williams/CBS

by John Cole|  January 11, 20052:47 pm| 9 Comments

This post is in: Media

I haven’t commented on the whole CBS report/Armstrong Williams affair because, well, I haven’t commented on anything in a few days. My positions:

Williams- Stupid all the way around. Stupid for Williams to accept the money, stupid for the administration to offer the money. And probably illegal. This doesn’t outrage me that much, because I don’t think the money influenced Williams’s position- he has always been in favor of school vouchers. However, when the administration screws up such simple things like this- something that is so blatantly wrong, it makes me worry about how they really are handling the more important issues of the day. Like, say, Iraq.

Dear Matt,

I respect you, so I am sincerely asking you take a deep breath.

‘24‘ is a fictional television series. That means it is made up, and is intended to be broadcast for entertainment purposes. This made me giggle:

If you can really get the bad guys to fess up in 90 seconds by putting a bullet in someone’s knee, then Bauer should be torturing people all the time and not pussyfooting around with all this satellite surveillance, deception, etc. But now all of a sudden what was a great idea Sunday night doesn’t even seem to be on the table. If only CTU would abandon these liberal pieties and start organizing some death squads, then we could lick this problem.

You know why Jack Bauer shot one guy and not another? Because it was in the fricking script.

I hate to have to say this, but based on the tone and tenor of your previous posts, it may be necessary. At any rate, I think you need to know- Kiefer Sutherland really didn’t shoot anyone. It was all fake- so when you get done analyzing 24, please don’t call the California State Police with information about some gruesome shootings you saw on television.

Up Next- Matt discusses the Grinch that Stole Christmas and the effectiveness of Neighborhood Watch Groups during the Holiday seasons.

BTW- Happy Blogiversary!

I am sorry, Glenn. Only unwashed barbarians percolate their coffee. Everyone knows the best coffee in the world comes from a French Press, like this one from Bodum:

Buy one here at Amazon, you will never drink coffee any other way ever again.

BTW- Time to pay for the domain name registry, so if you want to kick in some change, here be the PyaPal icon. Much thanks in advance.

Check out this proclamation yesterday:

Led by Media Matters for America and supported by MoveOn, MediaChannel.org, Free Press, Working Assets, Robert Greenwald (Director, Outfoxed), AlterNet, and The Campaign for America’s Future, we have launched a campaign to protest Sinclair Broadcast Group’s continued misuse of public airwaves to air one-sided politically charged programming without a counterpoint.

SinclairAction.com is pleased to announce that Staples, Inc., the world’s leading seller of office products, has not renewed advertising on all local Sinclair Broadcasting stations nationwide. Staples, Inc. attributed its decision in part to the response the company received from customers visiting the SinclairAction.com website.

Not so fast:

To clarify that Staples does not have a policy against advertising on Sinclair Broadcast Group news, Staples has the following statement:

Our media buying process with Sinclair Broadcast Group stations has recently been misrepresented by an organization with no affiliation to Staples. Staples regularly drops and adds specific programs from our media buying schedule, as we evaluate and adjust how to best reach our customers. We do not let political agendas drive our media buying decisions.

Staples does not support any political party. We advertise with a variety of media outlets, but do not necessarily share the same views of these organizations or what they report. As we have done for a number of years, Staples will continue to advertise on Sinclair Broadcast Group stations.

David Brock and the Media Matters whores misrepresenting reality? Say it ain’t so, Joe. Liars and idiots.

Deep Thinking From Andrew Sullivan

by John Cole|  January 7, 20056:47 am| 7 Comments

This post is in: General Stupidity

Andy should change the name of his site from the ‘Daily Dish’ to the ‘Daily Disconnect.’ Check out this doozy:

I respect those who defend the death penalty in necessity, even though I cannot morally acquiesce to it in any circumstances. But the blitheness of Bush’s and Gonzales’ treatment of the issue is surely troubling for those who are pro-life. Here is a man implicated in two policies anathema to serious Catholics. He gave legal sanction to torture – an absolute moral evil – and glibly facilitated the executions of dozens. Why are pro-life writers apparently untroubled by these facts? Or have I missed some out there?

So much stupid so densely packed together, it is hard to figure out where to start. I mean, which is more amusing- Andy’s confusing the abortion issue with capital punishment, his assumption that all serious Catholics are anti-death penalty, his continued assistance that the Abu Ghraib malefeasance was sanctioned and condoned by the White House, or his assertion that Bush ‘glibly’ executed individuals as Governor.

Actually, I think the dumbest nugget from that paragraph is his inability to recognize that someone may be pro-life and in favor of capital punishment quite easily- the assumption is that the unborn is innocent while those condemned to death are presumed guilty.

I am beginning to think that Sullivan is having his interns write for him, or he has a substance abuse problem.

Idiocy, Part 3

by John Cole|  January 6, 200512:36 pm| 10 Comments

This post is in: General Stupidity

When we say the loony left, we really mean it:

Was the tsunami caused by a bomb?
author: curious
It seems very convenient that the epicenter of the earthquake was in war torn Aceh. Could a bomb or series of bombs on the faultline have caused this huge earthquake/tsunami?
FACTS

Aceh has fought for independence for many years – even before Indonesia became a democracy (AKA US protectorate) a few years ago.

There is oil, a lot of it, in Indonesia.

The US is engaged in military “training” in the region.

80,000 + people in Aceh died in the earthquake.

I’d bet anything that Aceh will suddenly become peaceful and cooperative with the US appointed Indonesian government.

My head hurts. Another reader offers more evidence of the conspiracy:

The key United States military base in the Indian Ocean has been unaffected by the tsunamis which have devastated parts of Asia, The Washington Post has reported.

Diego Garcia, a British territory about 1,500 kilometres south of India, hosts about 3,200 US military personnel and civilian contractors and many US long-range bombers and Navy ships.

Lieutenant Colonel Bill Bigelow, a spokesman for US Pacific Command in Hawaii told the newspaper the US base was apparently safe.

“There are no reports of any damage there,” Lt Col Bigelow said.

This was a Tsunami for OIL! (Via the Belgravia Dispatch)

The Democrat Strategy to make Democrats appear attractive to mainstream voters marches forward with another keen approach at attracting voters. The new strategy?

Bitching about how much money Bush has personally donated to the Tsunami relief effort.

I’m serious- click the link. They have lost their minds with Bush hate.
