Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The Giant Orange Man Baby is having a bad day.

These are not very smart people, and things got out of hand.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

We will not go back.

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

Rupert, come get your orange boy, you petrified old dinosaur turd.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires.

The current Supreme Court is a dangerous, rogue court.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

Compromise? There is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist.

Second rate reporter says what?

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Trumpflation is an intolerable hardship for every American, and it’s Trump’s fault.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

You passed on an opportunity to be offended? What are you even doing here?

Democracy cannot function without a free press.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Their boy Ron is an empty plastic cup that will never know pudding.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

Republicans firmly believe having an abortion is a very personal, very private decision between a woman and J.D. Vance.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

George Deutsch has barely left NASA for a month and the God-hating humanists have already started with their nonsense again. Who should Bush nominate to replace Deutsch and put the fear of god back into Hansen and his secularist cabal? I propose Pat Robertson because he’s always looking up so he’ll sort of fit in. Share your candidates in the comments.

Chat about the birth, expansion and eventual cataclysmic collapse of our universe, and other stuff.

Oh yeah, go Pitt.

In another example of how well the American media functions, the fourth headline on the front page on MSNBC currently points to a story about the Pitt/Jolie wedding.

This is more important than the NCAA tourament how?

I predict the Seattle Discovery Institute will be called in as a review board for all NASA publications.

Perhaps if NASA prayed a little harder, we could get the Shuttle launched again?

We could always sell the entire operation to China. They have a pant load of US dollars and could utilize the expertise to further their own space program.

No, scs scares me, while GOP4Me is just Darrell on steroids. Or maybe just Darrell with enough integrity not to cut and paste his comments in from elsewhere.

OT, but a question for DougJ:

I’ve gotten a little bored with rathergate, blogsforbush and scrutator.

Any other recommended unhinged sites that allow comments?

    Here’s one
    http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/

It’s by far the craziest I’ve seen. You might want to check out redstate.org too.

Protein Wisdom has gotten pretty kooky lately too. I would now rate it slightly more crazy than Scrutator and but slightly less than blogsforbush.

    And there’s always Cold Fury.

Really, though, in a way I’ve got to give the nod to Protein Wisdom. Jeff Goldstein has got to be the biggest jack ass on any of the internets. He thinks he’s some kind of an intellectual. Check out his bio.

Scrutator, rathergate, cold fury — all those sites are maintained by morons for morons, but Goldstein is the only guy I see right now who really takes it to the next level. Pamela from Atlas Shrugs has her moments and she definitely gets points for the bizarre layout of her blog and for all those cheesecake pictures of her. And for comparing the guy who founded Little Green Footballs to van Gogh. But Goldstein is in a class by himself. He’s got the pomosity of Tom Maguire with the stupidity of Mark Noonan. You just don’t see that combination very often. It’s also possible that he’s kidding us all. If so, I am not worthy to wipe hold the lid of his snark jar.

You know what checking out all these whack job sites has taught me? To respect guys like Don Surber. He may be simplistic and misinformed, but he’s honest and humble.

I dunno–Red State is about the scariest that I’ve been to, if for no other reason than that they ostensibly capture the middle ground of the GOP.

prolifeblogs.com is both scary and useful because you can read the rants that the prolife movement tries to hide, e.g. having an exception for the life of the mother is just a loophole, let’s go after contraception next, etc.

Goldstein’s bio is impressive. A B.A. from Towson University *and* graduate work (but not a degree?) from the University of Denver? Oh, some summer courses at Cornell — don’t forget those. And then he drew Tippy the Turtle and took some correspondence drawing courses from the Art Institute of Akron.

Also, somehow I get the feeling that the phrase “studied under” means “enrolled in a large class taught by.” If not, all those people are all shitty, shitty teachers.

The irony here is that his top post is one that takes issue with Atrios calling him stupid. Jeff and his acolytes respond to Atrios (an Econ. Ph.D.) with a long string of nuh-uhs!

    Brilliantly argued. As always.

I think you’re right. Based on his bio, Goldstein strikes me as a talentless professional student. I used to have to deal with the type when I worked at the University. If they had any real talent or skill, they’d go get a real job and then they’d completely forget where they went to college and who their profs were.

    Like the rest of us.

By the way, Tim, current cosmological thinking leans towards the Universe continuing to expand indefinitely, with no warmth of the big crunch to look forwards towards.

Well, thanks, but we’ve long since made up with Esmay, and the post was quite Swiftian to begin with. It caused a reaction that embarrassed everyone more than we usually embarrass ourselves and others, which is saying something.

I was wondering why people were going to that page today, and I appended a caveat to the top, but it’s somehow not appearing on the copy that comes up from here.

My vote is for Goldstein, in any case. He’s really flipped the bonkwagon lately.
