    Ok, I know that speculating on the 2008 election is popular (if premature), but I just stumbled across this, and it struck me as bizarre, if not entirely unexpected. And here’s some more info on the panel itself. Of course I know that Israel has close relations with the US, and depends on our support a lot for some things, but sheesh, this is getting ridiculous, and somewhat creepy. If you want to participate in our elections, then apply for citizenship and come on over. Otherwise… well, don’t you have your own elections to worry about? (not to mention Palestine’s elections…)

    Hastert denies everything. Boener then throws Hassy under the bus. Hassy implies he knows nothing. Then Reynold’s COS resigns/gets canned, then blames Hastert, too.

    Now, Hastert has blown back at Boener, and god knows he’ll eventually attack the COS who ripped him. Somewhere Reynolds will be re-dragged into this.

    McCain has now called for “oversight” or some shit. Yes, a Senator wants to look into the House.

    Saw Frist being interviewed yesterday on CNN about his recent statement of bringing the Taliban into the Afghan government. A statement that would have him instantly on the shit list of just about everyone currently serving, and a lot of other people.

    Soon after the story hit, Frist began weasling. Said he meant Taliban supporters, not fighters should be brought into the AF gov. AP got it wrong he said. Dirty MSM tricks said the trained apologists.

    Yesterday the CNN anchor a number of times tried to get Frist to say whether the original story was incorrect. Then several times specifically asking to define which Taliban would be acceptable in AF gov.

    Frist just could/would not give a straight answer. On the definition of Taliban, Clinton gave a far faster and much less tortured logic parsing of the word “is.” The best I came up with what Frist proposed was that as long as Taliban don’t bring their weapons while in government buildings, they’re okay to stay. Outside, if they have weapons, as long as they just consider themselves to be a supporter, they’re to be encouraged and nurtured.

    The guy is batshit. Crazy too.

    Since this is an open thread.

    This post by Andrew Sulliven is just about the best post I’ve seen about the Amish and how they are handling their tragedy vs how the far right/Christianists are behaving.

    I cannot imagine the amount of Christian love that they must have in order to forgive that monster. It is truely inspiring.
