Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

If ‘weird’ was the finish line, they ran through the tape and kept running.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

I would try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

The fundamental promise of conservatism all over the world is a return to an idealized past that never existed.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.”

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls 2 years from now.

I have other things to bitch about but those will have to wait.

When we show up, we win.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

Our messy unity will be our strength.

If you cannot answer whether trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

Not Going to Make It

I don’t think we are going to hit 15k by tomorrow, but still, we have raised a sizable chunk. Not to mention that our original goal was only 10k, which we have passed by a great deal.

Goal Thermometer

At any rate, $12k is still pretty damned impressive.

*** Update ***

BTW- Several more super delegates for Obama, including two from Maryland and one at-large super, as well as reports that California supers once in the bag for Hillary are now wavering.

    Super delegates are elitists.

Well with this news concerning the use of a “nuclear” option its not too suprising. Some super delegates might not want to explain to their constituents how the will of the people was overturned in a backroom deal.

Now this is surprising. Back in 2005, Hillary Clinton made the argument McCain is making now:

Senator McCain made the point earlier today, which I agree with, and that is, it’s not so much a question of time when it comes to American military presence for the average American; I include myself in this. But it is a question of casualties,” said Clinton. “We don’t want to see our young men and women dying and suffering these grievous injuries that so many of them have. We’ve been in South Korea for 50-plus years. We’ve been in Europe for 50-plus. We’re still in Okinawa with respect to protection there coming out of World War II.

Guess that whole hundred years thing is off the table if she’s the nominee.

Did someone just give a lot of money? You are only $500 away from the goal. The banner reads 14.5k, not 12k.

Did someone just give a lot of money?

Um yeah, it sure looks like somebody just dropped $2,000. Twenty minutes ago the thermometer read $12.5k.

Now which of Hillbot’s stupidities was that $20 from me from…

    a) saying economists, policy experts, environmentalists, etc are irrelevant for her pandering.

    b) her iranian comments

    c) Nuclear option…

I gotta stop reading what Hillary Clinton and her campaign say, it gets to be an expensive habit.

I didn’t contribute to this because I’ve been throwing mine in this Obama site thingee of “Matching Contributions”. I’m not sure if anybody is really waiting to equal my contrib. or if they’re just folks who have already tossed in the same amount and they’re pairing up those with newbies who contribute, but I like the concept, so I’ve been doing it there.

Glad to see you’ve apparently passed the 15K without me, though.

Obama loses Appalachia. OK. Yup. Write it off. Too bad — those are the state which will benefit most from him being President — but you can’t force people to be smart about anything.

saying economists, policy experts, environmentalists, etc are irrelevant for her pandering.

Astonishing, isn’t it? Why don’t we just give Dubya a “gender reassignment procedure” and put him in office for another 4 years? That seems like a compromise that HRC’s supporters would go for.

    Super delegates are elitists.

Only the ones that the Clintons cannot blackmail (I’m speculating because it seems impossible that the super delegates are so gutless that they are holding out for a more pragmatic purpose, but as a junior high school graduate, I’m an elitist, too, so WTF do I know?)

    WTFs up w/WV ?

WV is simply a red-neckier version of KY. And KY is about the most racist, meth-addled, hick state (them and Indiana battle for these titles) east of the Miss.

Show me an openly gay WV or strongly pro-black WVian today and I’ll show you a corpse next week.

    Because he’s beige.

Seriously. I’ll bet you that a large fraction of the 17% “undecided” voters are going to vote against the “black guy”, too.

why is Obama so unpopular in WV ?

It’s nothing personal. Just the color of his skin. And not just WV but in Appalachia, where racism is alive, well, and not all that subtle. A diary at GOS last month recounted some creepy experiences in western NC as well – good ole boys stopping by a voter registration table to proclaim that they weren’t voting for a woman or a n***er.
