Going further, I do wonder in general if some of the bile directed at Obama is at least partially a result of racism. I’m thinking of the condescending attitude that’s so common, he can’t win, he’s so inexperienced, he should wait his turn. I once posted at Taylor Marsh, arguing it was ridiculous to say he was a liar for calling himself a professor at the University of Chicago Law when the University itself put out a statement on his behalf, and one of the posters their told me, “Face it, your boy lied.” Excuse me? Since when do you call a man over forty years old a boy? Would Edwards have gotten called a boy? It’s tricky talking about this, you don’t want to fling accusations around, but at the same time this nation has a long history of racism, and the he vehemence with which some people attack Obama makes me wonder. It’s hard for me to imagine Edwards being treated the same way.

Ah, okay, missed those. Chicagoan is clearly an alias for SusanUnPC though, because they share the same email. If you click on the ‘Chicagoan’ alias there on both those posts you cited, you’ll see the ‘[email protected]’ email, the same one associated with the poster ‘SusanUnPC’.
I have screenshots of a couple of the comments there too: both from viciously anti-Obama posters, both of them questioning the veracity of the ‘Wild Savages’ post.
I’ve seen some sick stuff at NoQuarter, I’ve seen some utterly deranged stuff and I’ve seen racist comments – but this is the most blatantly racist post they’ve made.

Also as far as I can tell, nearly every other poster at No Quarter, or at least a great many, use the ‘susanunpc@gmail’ email address. Why? Are they all the same person? Who knows, but I’m guessing so. The only poster I can find who doesn’t use that email address is Larry Johnson, so maybe it’s just her and Larry there. I could be wrong though, I haven’t looked into it all that thoroughly.

Lastly, a great number – if not all – these common posts, reflect a barely veiled, gritted teeth racism. Going back through the TexasDarlin blog and the PaganPower blog – and even Susan Hu’s Daily Kos diary – it’s easy to find sort of half nasty references to black people couched in political terms. But that ‘savages’ post, as referenced here, would doubtlessly correspond with a racist mindset. Obama said the other day a mother, who’s son was a teacher in the inner city, said he has seen a profound change in the young african american boys in his class. They are taking an interest in their studies and in school.
How anyone can see negative from the reactions that the young are feeling and african americans feel are just cold and too full of hate.
This picture from Andrew Sullivan’s blog speaks volumns. How can anyone not see this as a powerful statement and not feel some sort of pride regardless of color. I am white and this picture gave me the full impact of what african americans are feeling more than any article I’ve read about this historic nomination:

It also sounds like the Republican campaign for the election, all these things will be used over and over. It doesn’t matter if they are true or not, the idea is to raise enough doubt in the minds of voters. People might or might not be too racist to elect an African American but if he is gay as well then the religious vote is gone. And if people think the gay allegations are credible, or if more men start making allegations than women did against Clinton then people will believe the crack cocaine parts of the story as well.
Personally I think Obama has looked stoned a few times so far, I thought that before the crack allegations surfaced. Perhaps Andrew Sullivan likes him so much because he is gay as well.

I don’t believe this is really an African American issue. People would probably support Colin Powell for president if he wanted to run, and he has none of the baggage Obama may have. Even Condi Rice’s only drawback is some of the guilt by association with Bush. I even think that if Powell ran for president with Condi as VP instead of McCain Republicans would have a better chance than with McCain. Obama is playing the race card over and over but people have deeper problems with him than that.

Well I think Obama’s best equipped to survive it. Your bringing up Kerry, a Vietnam veteran, supports the point. It’s not what someone’s done that necessarily makes the difference, it’s, when they’re attacked, can they respond quickly and firmly without loosing it? I went into these primaries thinking Clinton would be better able to respond to attacks seeing as she’s been subject to them for so long, but I’ve been much more impressed with Obama. He’s not perfect, but he doesn’t let things lie, and he’s always looking for an opportunity to counterpunch.
Of course there’s not much point arguing it. We’ll find out in the next five months or so.

I used to think that was the correct strategy, because Gore and Kerry both floundered so much under these attacks. However the thinking is all wrong from the point of view of war, whic is what this is.
Think in terms of a fort under seige, the Democrats are in the fort trying to defend themselves against Rovian attacks, lies, exaggerations, etc. Fast counterattack is not the way to defend in this case, but to quickly fix any defects in the defenses. Kerry and Gore failed to do this, and Obama is also failing.
Gore started being attacked as a flip flopper for changing the color of his suits, presumably polling voters for thie favorite suit color. Kerry was attacked for looking silly in his skiing and sailing clothes. To fix these weak points they needed to not wear anything controversial, instead they tried to change the subject to Bush, which failed.
Obama made the same mistake about the flag pin, when it started he should have always worn one and then pointed out he had changed his mind and how McCain didn’t wear one as often as him. Instead he allowed the issue to fester by occasionally wearing one, so Rove has a target to doubt his patriotism.
This male prostitute will be like Jennifer Flowers or Paula Jones for Clinton, the Republicans will pay him for interviews and he will become a rich man appearing on Fox reminding voters that Obama may be lying about sex like Clinton was. Obama will seem like a liar about this and this will be used to make him seem to be generally dishonest. If it is true Obama may have to do what Clinton did, and say his private life is out of bounds, or he had some youthful indiscretions. It’s not the lie, it’s the coverup that destroys politicians. After all Frank and many others are gay congressmen and this is accepted. He may get away with this by don’t ask and don’t tell.
The guy looks very convincing so Obama’s reactions will either destroy him or let him survive like Clinton did.

I was perusing the Hillaryis44 rantings, and I came across a long post by “Marie3458”, who posted a copy & paste of an email she was sent from someone who claims to know someone else inside the Hillary camp, and they were explaining how Hillary was taken out of the race.
No big deal, as with Larry “Tiny” Johnson, we know how these ‘friend of a friend of a friend’ things go. One thing I noticed was that Marie3458 forgot to remove the sender’s name at the top of the email. The sender name is “Paula Abeles”, and whenever I see a name over there I run it through a search.
A quick search turned up “Paula Abeles”, who is a volunteer with “Count Every Vote” and she is based out of Maryland (funny how the out of state people want MI & FL fully seated, eh?). This matches the address info at the end of Marie3458’s post of her email (which Marie3458 also forgot to remove). So at least I confirmed that this “Paula Abele” exists, she is an active Hillary supporter and she lives in Derwood (Rockville), Maryland. So maybe it is possible she got some inside info on Hillary being called out by the DNC.
I was going to leave it at that, just some notes for future reference, but as I scrolled down to the next post I noticed that the email had been signed “Paulie Abele”, not Paula. So I went back to the search engine, and BAM! Home run!
The first link was to a story about the Monticello Association, a group that represents the descendants of Thomas Jefferson. Yes, that Thomas Jefferson. The story is about how Nathaniel Abeles’ (the association president) wife, “Paulie Abeles”, created an internet sockpuppet and caused a bit of trouble.
It seems that the Monticello Association has preferred to keep the descendants of Sally Hemings (rumored slave mistress to Thomas Jefferson) out of the yearly ‘family reunions’, and a group of the Hemings descendants were fighting them over it. Her descendants created a Yahoo group to discuss the situation, and “Paulie Abeles” infiltrated the group posing as a 67 year old black woman who was a descendant of Sally Hemings.
The Hemings Yahoo group became suspicious of her, and they eventually traced her IP back to her home. When confronted, Paulie Abeles confessed to the sockpuppetry, and though she sent group messages under her sockpuppet name directly to her husband, the Abeles claim that she never told her husband what she was up to until she was caught. He husband was disappointed with her, but he said that the information she provided was very helpful in helping him block their attempts to get in to the Jefferson family reunion.
The Hemings group believes that the sockpuppet was actually Nathaniel Abeles, but with his wife taking the blame that is where it ended.
It seems that Abeles was leading an effort to keep the slave descendants of Jefferson/Hemings out of the family fun, so to say. My first thought? They don’t like blacks, especially ones that might be in their family.
I went back to the search engine and the next link was to Freeperville. Freeperville?! I just had to look! ;)
This link was to a story at Free Republic about the very same event I described above and linked to. They quote Paulie Abeles saying:

She also uses the posting name “spabeles”, and is a member of No Quarter. She uses “spabeles” as her email name at a company she works at in Fairfax, VA (patriot.net), and running a search using that email name located the same email address posted at No Quarter, under her moniker there (“Silly”). That post at NQ was her soliciting people to email her so they could organize and help in posting “on-line comments in local papers”.
It seems that Ms. Paulie likes to sockpuppet a lot, and she don’t like blacks. It is interesting that she lives in the D.C. area, used to work in finance and as a sales rep for Start & Stripes and is in the middle of all of this working her sockpuppet magic.
Also, she uses the moniker “Spega” at Hillaryis44. I found that one in a search that revealed that she had bariatric surgery and registered at the hospital web site using that same moniker.
What is really “Silly” is how easy it is to connect the dots with her. She is obviously not very internet savvy.

That video that LJ put it up to show how “emotional” Obama supporters are made me tear up: to see black people so happy to have one of their own in the White House, it’s touching. And, as Bob Somerby points out, it’s no different than how Irish-Americans felt about JFK.
I like Obama better than Hillary anyway. He’s more of a party builder and he’s more liberal at heart. So I’m not supporting him because he’s black. But it does make me feel good as an American to see the way so many African-Americans feel about his candidacy. How could it not?

Never mind that he thinks it’s immoral to have the delegation of Florida get half votes, but he doesn’t seem to have the same issue with Democrats Abroad, or – for that matter – the general principle that states have unequal delegate weights for all sorts of reasons, the fact is that if he follows through on his threat of leaving, the Democratic Party will be stronger for it.
I know his type of activist, having worked in enough committees. He’s the kind of person who will spend an entire meeting arguing back and forth over the meaning of article 17 paragraph 4 subsection c, which is uberimportant to him that day, but ultimately means that the committee gets absolutely nothing done and people stop volunteering to work on it.
The fact is that Paul was trying to flip the nomination by having a vote count retroactively under the worst interpretation of the rules possible. Once you start playing that kind of game, you’ve lost the moral high ground.

The accusations of DNC and RBC corruption are the loopiest and saddest yet. A full half of the RBC was on record as supporters of Hillary, and the decision was unanimous.
If you watch the opening statements of the RBC, it was clear that the discretion of the RBC was to either give 1/2 or 0 delegate votes to the delegations. Then the FL and the MI delegations, run by known Hillary people, made proposals for dividing the delegations, which the RBC took at face value, and credited with the maximum votes (1/2) allowable under the rules.
Hillary won 100% of what she asked for (that would have been within the rules, at least) on May 31. Aside from the kerfuffle over the last minute shift of 4 MI delegates (holding between them 2 votes), there is not a damn thing Hillary asked for, that was within the RBC’s power to give, that she did not get.
But the math, that everybody has known since at least March 5, meant that this was all a meaningless exercise. I can’t even imagin a scenario where the DNC can be accused of corruption here. Just more fabulism from the willfully self-deluded.
We will see how they feel after a few weeks of being completely ignored. Or maybe we will hear about Obama mind control powers turning Hillary when she offers her much delayed concession and endorsement today.

I disagree entirely; i don’t think that wearing the correct thing or doing the correct thing to defuse the issue works. The Republicans will attack anything, and caving has the additional downside of making them look weak. I think the strategy that might work is responding quickly, and counter-attacking when possible, which Obama does very well. I didn’t see Gore or Kerry (or Clinton for that matter) do this very well, so we’ll see how it works this election. Beyond a certain point, you have your opinion, I have mind, and we’ll both get to see how it plays out in the real world in the next few months.

As would anyone with half a brain. RC reminds me of rdw, a former poster over at Kevin Drum’s WashingtonMonthly site. I don’t think they’re the same person – just the same style of confident pronouncements based on absolutely no evidence at all. Of course, rdw confidently asserted that the 2008 election would be between Hillary Clinton and Rudy Giuliani, so we can see how good he was at election predictions. RC’s predictions are pretty much in the same category.
Case in point:
This isn’t even remotely an accurate statement of the 2000 campaign, since “flip-flopper” wasn’t the meme used to describe Gore (it was “serial exaggerator” or “liar”) and the supposed “earth tones” controversy wasn’t about being a “flip-flopper,” it was about Gore being “willing to say and do anything to be President,” and that he “didn’t know who he was.”
The story was a complete lie, of course, fabricated out of whole cloth, so RC’s “solution” of “not wear[ing] anything controversial” would have been completely useless, all the more since Gore never wore anything “controversial.”
And this next statement was even dumber:
Kerry was shown parasailing and the right-wing really, really tried to make that picture a “Dukakis in the tank” picture but the attack went nowhere. It died immediately with no impact on the election. Again, RC’s “solution” would have been completely useless.
So RC is either a garden-variety troll or he’s a fool. Either way, you really cannot take him seriously. Just laugh at him and mock him and move on.

The fact is this is the worst informed group of voters in US history. Bush is the worst president in history, was elected twice and they gave him at one point the highest approval ratings of any president in history. The Democratic Party has the worst record in the entire world in any democracy for making progress in health care, wages, workers rights and anything left wing parties are supposed to care about.
So maybe instead of being so arrogant you might consider why Democrats are such losers and whether Obama is just another example of picking a loser. And if you are so smart about politics how come your party lost against an idiot like Bush with Kerry and Gore, and why they couldn’t find any better candidates. Maybe Democrats should be pointing at themselves when things go wrong as the cause rather than blaming it all on Republicans. The right might really nominate a monkey for president next time, and the Democrats probably wouldn’t be able to find a candidate to win then.
Obama is probably the most flawed candidate in the last 50 years and Democrats have no idea how to handle the swiftboating that will come. So maybe instead of not even understanding what happened with Kerry and Gore people should focus on how to win this one. Hope is not a plan. Hope is the absence of knowledge.
Obama is probably toast already. Maybe instead of being blind to that, like people were with Kerry and Gore, and then blaming everyone but yourselves, people might start thinking how to get an electable candidate to start with. Or they might try to get past the cute smile and the vacuous promises of hope and change and see what is really wrong with Obama and how he can survive.
And there is nothing to be proud about in winning more seats in the Congress, this is the worse bunch of idiots on the Right in history and Democrats are barely winning a few seats out of it.
