I hear McCain served in the military and that Obama may pick a VP in the next couple weeks.

Discuss.

The insinuation from Balloon Juice that John McCain, a former prisoner of war, served in the military is outrageous.

I was wondering… McCain seems to think being a POW is the kind of experience one needs to be President.

Is this because he regards the Whitehouse as a prison of sorts?

Harry Truman called it the Great White Jail.

McCain doesn’t have to think; he just knows it in his bones.

McCain was even a POW and wrote stuff in the dirt, too.

Oh my, the family values. Hadn’t heard about Cindy McCain’s sister. Sheeesh.

So, anyway, I think I put this out there at some point a while back, but Steve Benen of Carpetbagger and another guy have a radio show you can get as a podcast, called the poli-sci-fi podcast. They talk about politics and BSG and stuff. I know, right? I thought of you guys. Anyway, it’s way wonky but it’s pretty good. Steve also used to work a group called Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and he has some very reasonable thoughts on things like the faith-based initiative program (basically, he thinks it’s been around forever and that Obama just wants to strip out the bad aspects that Bush instilled, taking it back to its former, better, pretty uncontroversial existence — that podcast was a while ago); and more recently on the forum with Rick Warren. So if anyone just really wanted more of that discussion from yesterday, rather than the inappropriate relationship with goats discussion — oh, never mind.

Well, to be honest about it McCain tried to serve in the military but he kept crashing planes until he finally got caught by the enemy.

If McCane picks Lieberman as his runny, expect him to win in November. The Jewish vote would be split, and Obama needs this demo, crucially in SoFla. Heard it here first.

I doubt it. He may pick up some Jewish votes, but he would lose a lot of hard core righties in the process of picking up those votes. While Lieberman luvs him some Republican, other than the pro-war votes his voting record is not one to make Republicans enthusiastic about him IMO.

I know there is a part of the Jewish community that is pro-agression (for lack of a better term)as it relates to Isreal and all of the politics over there, but can there be that many of them? Lieberman is such a warmongering miserable fuck (yes, I’m from CT and despise him, no I didn’t vote for him) how could they that?

I hear that Keith Olbermann referred to McCain as ‘a lobbyist’s pet senator’ in regard to the troubles in Georgia during a special comment last night. Sanctimoniously delivered as usual but he blasted McCain but good about veterans issues and his dirty campaign.

This is unrelated to McCainomania, but there is a new attempt to be sane about at least one area of domestic policy :

College presidents want drinking age lowered to 18

About time. Of course, MADD is against it, but they lost my respect a long time ago (when they came out against any open containers of any sort in an automobile, to protect me in case someone spikes my diet coke with rum).

Anyone who was truly for state’s rights (and not just dog-whistling to the unreconstructed) would be against the whole notion of tying federal highway grants to the enactment of the “right” State law, but I expect the state’s rights types to be conspicuous by their absence here.

Yeah Olbermann slapped McCain really well last night. Granted Olbermann has got a bit holier than thou in his tone during these special comments, however he is right for the most part.

My source from this comment is a very informed, very Democratic Jewish individual. Granted, it’s one person’s opinion, but she made several good points. Much like it behooves wealthy Black Americans to vote Republican (for the tax reasons), many will vote for Obama instead, out of the historical relevance. Likewise, (many) Jewish people are likely to vote for Lieberman, for the same “he’s in our tribe!” rationale.

Besides that, it will force Obama (Burracka-the slammah), to pick a WHITE running mate.

Do the freeps know something we dont?

OBAMA is using Godaddy as registrar and DomainControl.com as DNS:

Domain Name: BARACKOBAMA.COM Registrar: GODADDY.COM, INC. Name Server: NS05.DOMAINCONTROL.COM Name Server: NS06.DOMAINCONTROL.COM

Where it gets interesting is the contenders:

It appears OBAMASEBELIUS.COM is owned by the Obama Campaign, and the ‘hidden’ registration will turn into a website after the announcement. Our lead noted a site is already being designed.

Domain Name: OBAMASEBELIUS.COM Registrar: GODADDY.COM, INC. Name Server: NS03.DOMAINCONTROL.COM Name Server: NS04.DOMAINCONTROL.COM

    A perfect match for Sebelius.

Did I mention I wore McCain’s POW bracelet back in high school? I try to fit it into most any discussion nowadays as proof of my patriotism, good judgement, and my unquestionable, unassailable, Rightness of Being.

I will never forget sitting on the floor on the night of his release, glued to the tee vee, watching McCain get off the airplane and hitting US soil. I was stunned, even at that age, by how white his hair had become. It was a very powerful and moving moment, and I felt as if I had truly played a part in his survival.

It is a moment I have remembered my whole life. Especially when I looked over to see my father tracing a cross in the green shag carpet.

He was indeed a POW for many years. A significant part of that time was spent in a small box out in the sun. Like the Alec Guiness character in “River Kwai”, his mind was severely affected.
