And three sheets to the wind. Full steam ahead!
john b
let’s see if i can
without any errors.
SUCCESS!!
Comrade Mary, Would-Be Minion Of Bad Horse
Beagles can code? AWESOME! But the poor thing looks tuckered out. Didn’t it get a nice big bowl of Red Bull to help it through the all-nighter?
(And big thanks to Sekimori and Helpful Commenter. The style sheet, right?)
AkaDad
This makes my lower regions tingle.
Not My Fault
So you mean to say that the "story is there … then it isn’t there … then it’s back" thing that is still happening is a feature?
amorphous
Allowing all comments to be visible is such a Socialist policy.
Joshau Norton
So what was it? Us techies really get off on knowing that kind of stuff.
That’s why I can’t be a Republican. I have to know facts behind what’s going on and what makes things tick – other than blindly accepting that "God did it".
Crusty Dem
Maybe you can offer to help Larry Flowbee with a similar problem he’s been having at NoQ. I stopped over there and was a little surprised by the Palin love. Apparently we just hate her because, ummm, VAGINA!!!! I was disappointed I was unable to read all the crazy.
Alan
So, what was the fix…or is it a trade secret?
"Maybe you think we were all a sheet in the wind’s eye. But I’ll tell you I was sober; "

Hmm, for some reason I can’t see images on this blog with firefox 3.0. Is that a bug, or am I doing something wrong? I can see the images when I use IE.
Comrade Jake
Ta-Nehisi Coates, once again demonstrating why his is quickly becoming a must-read blog over at The Atlantic.
The Other Steve
Hey you fixed the inability of pgup/pgdn and arrow keys from working too.
The Other Steve
BLOCKQUOTE FAIL!
Billy K(hrushchev)
Meh. Your blog sucks, Cole.
(kidding)
The Other Steve
Firefox was a crappy movie.
Cris v.3.1
The commenter was helping the black screen mess up comments? That’s not the kind of help we need.
Billy K(hrushchev)
Spoken like a true techie.
The Other Steve
You try scrolling down 100 comments to get to the bottom with a freaking mouse!
one key… Ctrl-End, and I’m there baby!
SGEW
Ta-Nahisi has been a must-read since forever. I’m almost sorry he got the Atlantic spot – I liked having him all for myself (tho’ I’m incredibly psyched that he’s getting the well-deserved exposure).
Phobos
The ginormous bold font in blockquotes still makes me cringe.
Is there a trick involved in avoiding that?
jake 4 that 1
@Phobos: [blockquote][p]Text[/p][/blockquote]
h/t whoever told me about it.
SGEW
I put {p} tags within the blockquote. Works for me.
(i.e., {blockquote}{p} blah blah blah {/p}{/blockquote})
Comrade Mary, Would-Be Minion Of Bad Horse
Grrr. Cats are evil.
SGEW
Nah, just amoral.
Rick James
@Joshau Norton: There were some PUMAs in the CSS.
Phobos
Love the new editing format.

Except for the whole “When you refresh the page or when you first come to the site you have to wait about 15 seconds for the site to let you do anything” thing.
Except for that, yes. You are now functioning at full capacity and bug free.
Michael D.
Oh, and that whole “Error 403” thing you get whenever you post a comment.
Except for that.
Error 403

Should blood be dripping from my monitor?
Just checking.

The BSOD was a metaphor for Cole’s white guilt.

Has anyone else had a problem with posting comments? I’ve tried posting a few comments in the National Review thread, but they don’t seem to show up.
Punchy
Racist.
Comrade Jake
Inconceivable.
Comrade Darkness
@The Other Steve:
~now watch that NOT work.
~AH, so THAT’s how it is…
Comrade Darkness
Oh oh oh. That’s the exact error I get trying to post from my sidekick. Not that getting cut of from BJ for a tiny fraction of the day is a bad thing for the quality of my life.
cain
@Comrade Jake:
Ambinder as well. It’s nice to visit blogs with a conservative tilt that doesn’t bring on the crazy.
cain
cain
I finally read Coate’s post. Very profound. Quality writing.

Poopyman
[email protected] and Jake @ 21, thanks for the headsup. Now I can stop banging my head against the BLOCKQUOTE wall.
And it really is a black screen OD here in my Firefox world. Dunno if it’d be the same in Exploder or not.
tripletee
@Michael D.:
Easy fix – quit using IE.
greynoldsct00
I read this blog on Firefox at home all the time and I can see everything just fine and never had issues commenting. I’m not able to embed links, but that’s an operator error problem, even with JC’s instructions… FAIL
Comrade Jake
@cain:
I don’t know, I think the jury’s still out on Ambinder. His blog is decent for providing info from inside the campaigns that is tough to find elsewhere. But he doesn’t do a whole heckofa lot more, and when he does, I find it to be pretty weak sauce.

Dammit! I was going to say that!

Now witness the power of this fully armed and operational Balloon Juice! Fire at will, commander.

The BSoD helped me discover Opera, which is a very cool browser comunity, so it wasn’t all bad. Must now return to the FF mothership however.
oh really
That’s what Captain Max Pruss said to his passengers at 7:00PM on May 6, 1937.
And then…
The last words of one of the passengers were reputed to have been: "But, Captain, I can’t block quote zwei oder drei paragraphs at a time. Was ist los?"

From HuffPo, a great idea for dealing with the financial crisis.

Jesus! It was bad enough destroying whole planets, but picking on poor Will?
Krista
I’ve always felt bad for Will, really. That poor bastard gets fired at an awful lot. Even when he and Jeff Goldblum are saving the planet from aliens. You’d think he’d be treated a little better after that.
Stuck in the Funhouse
@br:
You need a plug in viewer to see. I forget which one, but it should ask you to install plug in
tripletee
I saw Hancock. Bastard gets no sympathy from me.
D-Chance.
Now for the magical add-ons to make it even better…
gbear
I just discovered that you can right click on the scroll bar and then click ‘bottom’. You can also get back up to the top this way. Two clicks. I’m a lousy techie but I have learned to right click on stuff just to see what happens. It’s about the only way I learn anything.
The Other Steve
That’s an interesting feature, and I’ve been trying to figure it out.
I think it’s the browser overloading on trying to render, because I watched what was happening over http with fiddler and didn’t see anything taking too long.
demimondian
I suspect that it’s the CSS, not least of all because it shows up in IE, and not in FF or Chrome. That suggests a browser with poor CSS and/or Javascript handling, which comes close to being the operational definition of IE.
Cynicor
@Comrade Mary, Would-Be Minion Of Bad Horse: Jilly isn’t a beagle, she’s a foxhound. Beagles CAN code, but they’re not very good with CSS.
MR. Bill
Thank you Sekmori, and John.
MR. Bill
uh, SekImori.. I had my glasses off.

Looks like JS to me – try loading the page with scripting turned off. No freeze.
merelycurious
Hmmm. The header graphic is still a monstrous 152K. That’s way, way too big for something that can be sliced 20 pixels wide and repeated horizontally.
otherwise, good work.

Well, it still freaks my version of Safari, but it’s ancient, because I’ve been too P.O. po’ to upgrade, so I’m still using OS X 10.3 and Safari whatever-the-fuck.
Works OK in Firefox now, though.

Delia
I checked last night’s thread. It still has the black screen of death. So I guess the fix is not retroactive.
Oh, and none of today’s threads are long enough yet. So we don’t really know for certain, do we?
Joey Maloney
No you’re not, unless the inability to read and post comments from Mobile Safari is supposed to be a feature.
tripletee
@Joey Maloney:
Mobile Safari works great for me. Try clearing the cache to be sure you’re getting served the iPhone-formatted site.
