Ian Welsh at FDL talking about Jesse Jackson, JR. cooperating with the feds:
Brownsox notes that Jackson worked with prosecutors on a prior case against Blagojevich, and it doesn’t look like he worked on this one. So, not out of the woods yet, and one wonders why he lawyered up so fast if he was in the clear.
That seems to be an odd statement, doesn’t it? Since when did progressives think that obtaining legal advice implied guilt? Personally, I think it would have been reckless for Jackson to not get lawyers, especially in the current political climate. This is the new America- just because you haven’t done anything wrong doesn’t mean the press can’t try to convict you anyway.
BTW- have been running new anti-virus software on some friend’s computers since they claimed they were running a little sluggish and because of the IE scare. It found 730 infections in the first two minutes of the scan. I have left it alone for a half hour and am afraid to look now. At any rate, if his computer was a person, it would be Jenna Jameson it would be a Craig’s Lister looking for a casual encounter.
I'd Do Her Regardless
At any rate, if his computer was a person, it would be Jenna Jameson.
really ? porn stars are that disease ridden ??
i personally think that after catching an std from three different women in the nursing profession, that amerikan nurses are among the more disease ridden people on the planet. and male nurses, from what the female nurses told me, are not far behind ( pun intended ).
i would think that porn stars are very very careful about protecting the goods ( pun intended ).
Krista
His computer takes it up the ass? That’s just weird.
abrxas
Three words: Buy a Mac.
Blue Raven
Dude, do you know how often porn pros get tested these days??? She’s probably got fewer STDs than Paris Hilton.
John Cole
Figures the commentariat here would devote this thread to a full-throated defense of Jenna Jameson.
Pun intended.
Jenna's One Claim To Fame
Jenna never took anything up the ass in her entire porn career – she is famous for that. she however, took numerous and sundry objects up the ol’ cooter – often, repeatedly and well.
Prav duh
Agree with abrxas. Bought my first Mac in 10/08 and it’s easy to use and no viruses. Best $599 I ever spent.
r€nato
i beg of you: leave the platform/OS wars on the previous thread!
back to the topic at hand: who can blame JJ Jr. for lawyering up? Going without them in today’s poisonous political climate (thanks a lot Republicans) is like swimming across the Amazon; you might pull it off, but one tiny cut and you’ll be devoured in an instant.
Krista
Condoms, much?
r€nato
John, I think that a much more apt analogy would be, "if his computer was a person, it would be a Craig’s Lister looking for a casual encounter."
Napoleon
@Krista:
LOL
Off topic, I love how TPM is reporting an upcoming NY Times piece on
"the disdain that Obama campaign manager David Plouffe seemed to harbor for The Page’s Mark Halperin and Politico". Maybe the best think about the Obama group is their willingness to think for themselves and reject the inside the beltway CW. That may be their greatest strength.
TheFountainHead
All reality with regards to porn stars and testing aside, this shit is funny. Nearly fell out of my damn chair.
gbear
FDL = progressives getting in touch with their inner Ralph Nader. Who needs pragmatism when you can have a pure and perfect point of reference (tboggs and phoenix woman exempt).
I blame Obama.
If my computer was a person, it would be Mark Dayton. Clean but boring because I try to clear everything out after going on the internets).
Tim Fuller
I think the Republicans are DESPERATE to find any Dem taint. I’m actually starting to wonder if Blogo isn’t a setup. So much focus on Blogo and so little focus on war criminals. Hmmmm. Hmmmm.
I see Andrew Sullivan has his focus squarely where it should be. He’s been riding the torturers as hard as he did Sarah Palin on Trigs birth records.
Macs are still a much better choice than PC’s unless you’re an uber geek or poor college student. If you’re an uber geek and not running Linux already then you’re just a poser anyway.
Enjoy.
U Use A Condom With Your Spouse ?
@ 7 Krista – would you think that you would need to use a condom with your spouse ?? nah, me either. that was # 1 nurse. did use a condom with # 2 but the germs were able to exploit areas that were not covered by the latex and for # 3, well, she assured me that all was clean and ready to go. that was my bad.
Napoleon
And PS on Jackson, yes he would be an idiot to at least not talk to an attorney to at least get the ins and outs of what he can and can not do when questioned.
4tehlulz
>>I think the Republicans are DESPERATE to find any Dem taint.
Obligatory Larry Craig joke.

Not another f-in mac v. pc war.
I have a Mac. I have a top of the line PC. I have an xp laptop. I like all of them for what they do. Stop, please, before I blow a gasket.

@John Cole:
Word has it the new security threat comes from the Web’s Red Light District. We must keep our Porn surfing infection free. It’s like, way important. Maybe even Defcon 3.

Damn. Ate my tags! I blame Bill Gates. Cause I can.

Jenna Jameson? Meh. I prefer brunettes. Give me Tera Patrick instead. I’d risk an STD for some-o-dat.
Keith
Are those 730 actual virii, or is it like Ad-Aware, where the vast majority are tracking cookies?
Krista
Yikes. That’s some crappy luck.
That’s why I eschew internet pr0n and just keep my subscription to Penthouse Letters current. Sometimes, old-fashioned is best.
djork
Fixed for the Larry Craigs, David Vitters, Mark Foleys, Pastor Meths, double wetsuit guys, etc etc etc etc etc
EDIT: Damn you, 4tehlulz!!!!
Comrade Stuck
@Krista:
Krista, you’re making me blush.
Laura W
@Krista: HA!
The memories you just tripped.
Edit: Was it Penthouse Forum that we young ladies liked? A smaller, more easily held publication? Straining to remember back in the day…
Dreggas
In other words the virus is a CSTD?
The Moar You Know
Since Republicans made it fashionable.
Fuck Ian Welsh. He’s being a concern troll and is probably pissed that Nader isn’t getting sworn in January 20, with his hand on a plateful of spaghetti and a gallows full of automobile executives behind the stage, waiting to be dropped as soon as the Oath is completed.
JimPortlandOR
At the very moment I starting reading this post, up popped a notice that the IE update from MS was ready to download. Short and painless.
John (or others): what anti-malware did you run, hopefully free. I have Norton Internet Security for Windows Vista, and run it every week (and keep Vista updated completely too). But my 3GB Ram Dell XPS is actually slower than Windows 2000 on 256 MB Ram, especially on internet stuff.
Each week my Norton finds 50-75 tracking cookies, which get deleted, but in 9 months not one nastier bit has been identified. I’m thinking I need some thorough freeware anti-baddie to check if something is running on the PC that Norton doesn’t detect.
Any ideas on something good and free?

Ah, the written word…letting your mind stretch until it pricks and then engulfs your libido.

@Krista:
I just use Torrent software. I get the full movies ripped and virus free, same with web site content that someone else ripped and zipped for me. Virus, mal-ware, etc. free as well. Now people that use limewire….that’s like being a "a craigslist poster looking for a casual encounter".
Montysano (All Hail Marx & Lennon)
Let’s see: what to comment on? Illinois politics or Jenna?
Ya’ll do know that Jenna is great with child, having been sperminated by some Ultimate Fighter dude? Will the child go into the family business(es)? His/her choice is fucking or fighting.
fastandsloppy
And that is why I still get the J.C.Penny Catalog.
Joshua Norton
Spyware Blaster. You don’t even have to run it. It sits in the background and keeps creepy crawlies out. As long as you keep it updated.
Napoleon
Check out Obama in college.
Tim Fuller
I’ve heard good things about a free AntiV program. I think its AVG virus remover or something like that.
Enjoy.

@Montysano (All Hail Marx & Lennon):
if the kid is a girl why not both? There is "Ultimate Surrender".
TheFountainHead
@Napoleon: Very cool, thanks for sharing.

I CAN HAS ANONUHMUS SEKS??!?!?!?!?
The Moar You Know
@Tim Fuller: Tim, the free version of AVG Antivirus is here. I’ve been using it a long time, bit of a resource hog but it works well.
Nod32 is still the best, though. Not free.
The Other Steve
I certainly wouldn’t throw her out of bed for eating crackers.
dr. bloor
This is a family thread. Stick with Jenna.
Montysano (All Hail Marx & Lennon)
@Dreggas:
Very true, and what the hell: if the kid is a boy, why not both? IIRC, several of those American Gladiators wound up in the ghey pr0n biz.
The Other Steve
I actually run no anti-Virus software on any of my Vista machines.
I simply got fed up with Norton, McAfee, AVG and the others and decided I wasn’t going to pay their blood money any more.
Been going two years now without issue.
kay
The people identified in that complaint have my sympathy because the whole thing is starting to look like a circus.
I would get a lawyer. I would get several.
What was the point of announcing the allegations, again?
So we could wait 15 days before anyone named in it could speak without fear of violating some minefield of a prosecutor-requested gag?
The Illinois legislature can’t offer immunity for testimony because it may impair the prosecution’s ability to get a conviction, a la Oliver North, so they can’t impeach.
Am I missing something? What was the urgency, again? How are we restoring trust in the Illinois process, or whatever it was that Fitzgerald said was his objective?
Litlebritdifrnt
@Napoleon:
Those pics are way cool only one problem, I see a feeding frenzy of conspiracy theories about to erupt in wingnuttia the likes of which we have never seen before. Why? *sings* "Third finger left hand"
*ducks*
Laura W
I don’t think Jenna’s a cracker eating type of girl.
smiley
@Napoleon: Looks like a young aspiring photographer had a crush. I used to do the same thing as an undergrad when there was someone I, um, wanted to spend some time with.
Wow, the parallels are scary.
Nellcote
Someone needs to follow up on the Chi. Tribune publishing the story of Fitzgerald’s investigation that forced Fitzgerald to bust the gov. before they were completely ready. Particularly considering the Tribune’s roll in the investigation.
kay
@Nellcote:
That would be helpful. Or, we could just insist everyone identified in the complaint not hire a lawyer and just go tell the prosecutor and/or press everything they know, because that always goes well.
Clear this whole mess right up. If you have nothing to hide….
demimondian
@kay: I’m in favor of stressful interrogation, myself. The confessions people come up with under torture are much more reliable.
Or, at least, amusing.

@demimondian: Didja just catch Tweety talking all over a clearly suffering Hitchens on this very subject?
Watching Hitchens gets more and more painful.
demimondian
@Laura W: Wow. She looks very, very unwell indeed.

Jaysus. It’d be like f**king a bicycle.
demimondian
@Laura W: No, missed it. Summary for the TV deprived?
Xecky Gilchrist
@John Cole: Not another f-in mac v. pc war. […] Stop, please, before I blow a gasket.
I applaud your politeness, but it ain’t gonna stop. Imagine that the mention of "virus" and "PC" in the same sentence – or even the same website – amounts to swinging a little rubber mallet at a metaphorical knee. A certain class of Mac user either cannot or will not avoid emitting "buy a Mac".
Jeff
Free Panda Security scan. Blows Mcafee and Norton out of the water.
Laura W
@demimondian: Better not try to summarize, as my habit (read: survival mechanism) when watching Tweety is to be surfing the internets, eating cheese, pouring wine, letting the cats in and out and in and out of the back yard, emptying my bladder.
You didn’t miss much (thanks to Tweety’s inability to realize he has guests who get paid to speak when on screen). Regardless of how one feels about Christopher Robin, unless he is on next week’s episode of A&E’s Intervention, I really hate that his never-ending slow slip slide away is broadcast on tee vee.
Mako
heh. Taint.

I’ve installed Firefox on the computers of friends and relatives only to find it removed the next time I visited. They told me they never heard of Firefox or Mozilla, don’t believe Firefo is really more secure, and trust Microsoft because it is familiar. Go figure. They must be diehard Bush fans.
On Macs: It’s a fact that Macs are far, far, far less likely to be attacked by a virus, a worm or a trojan than a Windows machine. It is not true that Macs are invulnerable. No computer on a network can be. But the money and the fun is in going after Windows, and will be so long as that OS dominates.
In adition, OS X is a Unix system, and Unix had a quarter-century lead on Windows in thinking about security issues.
I’m not aware of any Macintosh virus. The one or two trojans and worms out there require some kind of explicit action by the user to enable the infection.
Comrade Mary, Would-Be Minion Of Bad Horse
A penguin is driving through the desert when his car breaks down. He gets his car towed and the mechanic says it is going to take him about an hour to get the car fixed so the penguin goes next door to get some ice cream.
Penguins love ice cream.
The penguin orders a double scoop of vanilla in a bowl. It is delicious ice cream but the penguin makes a terrible mess trying to eat it.
(Penguins don’t have thumbs. They can’t use spoons.)
Then penguin goes back to the mechanic to see what is going on with his car.
“Well,” says the mechanic, “It looks like you blew a seal.”
“Nah,” says the penguin, “It’s just ice cream.” (via)

@The Moar You Know:
My favorite anti-virus software right now has got to be Avira AntiVir, and the basic version is free. The best part about it is this:
How can you beat that? The worst part about it is the pop-up ad nagging you to upgrade to their (mostly useless) pay version every update. And it has daily updates.
Of course, I just blacklisted the pop-up notification component in secpol.msc. I have to disable the policy whenever I want to open the virus description box, but I only have to do that if it finds a virus.
And, being the free version, it doesn’t have all the intrusive automation that made me borderline homicidal towards Symantec employees (you have to pay for that privilege). So I generally have to set programs to send downloads to the virus scanner if I don’t want to put all my stock in the process scanner.
So, yeah, probably not good recommendation for non-geeks. But I like it.
Gravenstone
@NonWonderDog:
Also an AVG freeware user. I finally succumbed and clicked through on the renew pop-up. It afforded me the chance to renew the free version when I declined the pay upgrade. It issued an ID code which when entered basically gives you a 1 year license to continue using the freeware. So I continue to be a cheap (yet protected) bastard.
As far as freeware malware removal:
http://www.malwarebytes.org
I highly recommend it, having found it a few months back during a search for tools to remove a specific trojan that was infesting my nephew’s system. It did so without fuss or drama and continues to protect both his and my PCs to the present day.
