Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” was supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

You are so fucked. Still, I wish you the best of luck.

At some point, the ability to learn is a factor of character, not IQ.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

Prediction: the gop will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

Compromise? There is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist.

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

T R E 4 5 O N

I’m more christian than these people and i’m an atheist.

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

Beware of advice from anyone for whom Democrats are “they” and not “we.”

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

I would add this to your list. It’s even topical, re: weblog awards.

I’ve been reading way too much Wonkette recently, what with the PUMAtard war and all, the end. Also.

FishSlapDance is one of the stupid-funniest python quickies EVER! I giggle just thinking about it sometimes.

Curly’s yelp when Moe smacks him is always great too.

The way the announcers gave head to Tim Tebow last night was a slap in the face to all the other saints — and I’m a Gator. Heard on Fox sports radio today: "If Tebow comes back and wins 3 national championships and 2 Heismans, should he be considerd one of the greatest ever?". Jeebus. Enough already.

Ah, I always take an excuse to bring back this charming video:

    Michael Palin for President

Ye gods, I loved the campaign season. If it wasn’t for the whole fate-of-the-world-hangs-by-a-thread thing, I could have had it go on forever.

Spoof movies don’t even begin to compare to "Airplane" anymore. Leslie Neilsen taking a risk and doing a comedy like that before he became his own cliche.

Speaking of…one of the most cringe-worthy moments in my life happened while I was watching the Debbie Reynolds’ flick "Tammy and the Bachelor". The male lead is standing in the rain in one scene, shirt open. I mentioned to my college roommate that the guy was pretty hot. She turned to me and said, "That’s the guy from the Naked Gun movies."

Yes, and no. unless your Dick "Tripod" Cheney. Then everything is possible.

    @DougJ:

I think that’s illegal, except for certain persons in Alabama.

@Comrade Stuck: That’s illegal, too. Even in Alabama, you can’t just *throw* people under a bus, you need to use a fire hose.

Er, how about people accidentally throwing themselves under buses?

    Jesus under the bus

    Nip/Tuck lady under the bus

    Lost dude under the bus

Girl who cheated death under the bus

Haven’t seen Flash of Genius but watched Bottle Shock on a flight recently. Wouldn’t recommend it. I would recommend that Alan Rickman fire his agent, though.
