Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

The most dangerous place for a black man in America is in a white man’s imagination.

In my day, never was longer.

I like you, you’re my kind of trouble.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

A lot of Dems talk about what the media tells them to talk about. Not helpful.

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

If you’re pissed about Biden’s speech, he was talking about you.

The words do not have to be perfect.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

Bad news for Ron DeSantis is great news for America.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

More Snow

This has just been the weirdest winter here- it seems to snow almost every other day, but it never amounts to anything. Tonight we had another inch or so, so there is a light covering again this morning, and it is still coming down. The weirdest thing is that looking outside, it looks like that kind of tiny snow that just keeps coming for ever and ever (not the big fluffy stuff that only lasts for an hour that looks like those little ornaments you shake).

But here is the weirdest part. I see the snow coming down, I see the sky, but none of the radar at wunderground or weather.com is showing anything. Not sure what is going on, but one of my friends last week told me we were supposed to get a massive snow today (I believe her exact phrase was a “tornado snowstorm”), but again, just not seeing anything on the radar.

Weird.

We’ve got plenty in northern NY, if you’d like some. I’m not griping, though. Spring is around the corner, no matter what the rodent says. And besides, I have power unlike those poor bastards in Kentucky.

It snowed here in the UK yesterday. Not that anyone really noticed.

(Seriously, what a bunch of pantywaists.)

Via Washington Monthly, fresh from his stint as a war correspondent, Joe the Plumber will be advising Republican congressional aides on the stimulus package.

If nothing else, GOP aides are using the appearance to get staffers to attend the 9 a.m meeting.

“In case you weren’t planning to attend CWG tomorrow morning, you might want to reconsider because Joe the Plumber will be joining us!” Kimberly Wallner, an aide to South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint, wrote in a message to her e-mail list this afternoon.

It’s because it would defeat the purpose of their "Global Warming Theory" if the scientists at Wunderground and Weather.com showed it snowing or reminded people it was cold somewhere.

Rick, I thought you were linking to a joke. I mean, TECHNICALLY, he’s a joke – but this is just not funny any more.

We were just a few inches short of a record monthly amount of snow here in Cleveland for January, and more on the way today. We have had something like only 3 days above freezing since January 1.

Bob Herbert agrees with you that the stimulus package should be about infrastructure, and further argues the current proposal is inadequate.

Instead, we have infrastructure spending in the Democrats’ proposed stimulus package that, while admirable, is far too meager to have much of an impact on the nation’s overall infrastructure requirements or the demand for the creation of jobs.

Among those who have expressed their concerns publicly is Gov. Ed Rendell of Pennsylvania, a Democrat and persistent advocate of infrastructure investment. Just prior to President Obama’s inauguration, Mr. Rendell said of the stimulus package being considered by the House: “Anybody who thinks — if the president-elect thinks, or the team thinks — that this is the answer to America’s infrastructure needs is in a different universe.”

The big danger is that some variation of the currently proposed stimulus package will pass, another enormous bailout for the bankers will be authorized, and then the trillion-dollar-plus budget deficits will make their appearance, looming like unholy monsters over everything else, and Washington will suddenly lose its nerve.

The mantra (I can hear it now) will be that we can’t afford to spend any more money on the infrastructure, or on a big health care initiative, or any of the nation’s other crying needs. Suddenly fiscal discipline will be the order of the day and the people who are suffering now will suffer more, and the nation’s long-term prospects will be further damaged as its long-term needs continue to be neglected.

Speaking of global-warming-that-doesn’t-exist-because-Rush-says-so, it’s been in the 70s here in central Texas lately (normal 55), which is retarded even by the standards of Texas weather.

We’re getting that weird snowfall in SW Ohio, too. Fits and starts of snow, little accumulation. Last week it finally got itself together and we got about 6 inches on the ground. With a nifty half inch layer of ice in between.

The worst part is our local weather people. They hype up every weather front like it’s the Last Coming and panic people into thinking it’s the Blizzard of Ought Six. Then we get a dusting and it’s over.

Send it this way. If its going to be cold we may as well have something to look at while we freeze.

Nothing but warm, sunny weather out here in Northern Cali, which means that there’ll be water rationing out here soon. "If it’s yellow it’s mellow, if it’s brown flush it down." (Sorry, Rev. Lowery, California was rhyming colors back in the seventies.)

Snow here in NC this morning too. Barely a dusting on the rooftops and the cars. It won’t last the day I think.

Not over here in western NC. Clear and cold as frack. Icy, for sure. Blue sky, light breeze…gorgeous. I get to drive up into the mountains a spell. I heart my "commute".

There is nothing on earth more magical to me than falling snow. Every time it begins to fall I experience a rush of joy, excitement, and some kind of deep peace.

    Also weird.

Perhaps these emotions are related to genetic memories connecting me to the lands of my Northern European/Germanic ancestors.

But basically, I really love snow. While most people are bitching and whining about a storm, I’m dancing in the white stuff, arms outstretched, welcoming those billions of little white bastards to the earth.

My link to Washington Monthly didn’t work; I’m trying again. Steve Benen put it succinctly:

This is what it’s come to for Republican staffers in Congress. In the midst of an economic crisis, and after balking at a stimulus package, the GOP is turning to an unlicensed plumber/campaign prop to discuss legislative strategy on economic policy.

What more is there to say?

I don’t know what you are looking at John, but this link shows plenty of atmospheric activity over WV.

We have no weather reporting worth a crap around here, I do my own forecasting using NOAA and their extensive web site. I can even out-predict them using their own data. They use Google Map so you can drill right down to your property for a spot forecast. One huge asset is the Oregon Department of Transportation web site. They have weather stations and cameras all over the state so I can check weather and traffic conditions as of that minute. Combined with the NOAA data I get great weather predictions for home and travel.

NOAA, we pay for it. Use it!

Here in Cincy, it’s snowing again and we’re expected to get three more inches of the stuff on top of the icy, snowy mess that’s been on the ground for a week now.

Weird winter indeed…. but at least this snowfall is showing up on the radar.

Got a lake nearby? I’ve seen that effect (really really localized lake effect) off our pond. Really tiny light-weight bits that would be way too low for the radar to pick up. The lowest radar angle on wunderground is .5 degrees. At forty miles from the radar it’s only registering about four tenths of a mile high, at least.
