Tired from watching the Ducks-Wings game last night (and as an evil Wings fan, depressed to boot). Currently in the middle of having to write technical instruction documents so that my processes can be offshored to India to boot.
I can’t tell which would end my employment sooner… writing the documents, or just going to sleep right here and right now.
As Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) moves to ease a backlog of executive branch nominations, he suggested on Tuesday that he does not have the votes to bring up President Barack Obama’s pick to run the Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel.
“Right now we’re finding out when to do that,” Reid said, responding to a question about the status of Indiana University law professor Dawn Johnsen’s nomination to the Justice post. “We need a couple Republican votes until we can get to 60.”
Johnsen has come under fire from some social conservatives, who have voiced concerns over her positions on abortion and the war on terror.
Johnsen is qualified, Obama wants her in the job. Since when did a nominee for the president’s Office of Legal Counsel require sixty votes? Oh, since the “up-or-down vote!” crowd found themselves in the minority with a feckless Majority Leader.

@Zoogz: Desperately need the Ducks to complete the upset so my Blackhawx can advance to the Stan Cup Finals. There’s no way the Hawks can beat the Wings, but I’m guessin they’ll be favorites over a offensively-challenged Ducks squad.

GOP: Re-brand ourselves? No way. We’ll re-brand you!
All I can think of is that poll from a few months ago where a plurality of Americans had no problem with sòcialism. The GOP is trying to drive that number higher and higher.
Hi, I went by the unemployment office today. They open at 8:30 am and it was about 8:20 and the line was already out the walkway and about to wrap around the side of the building. This is a huge increase from the last time I was there a less than a year ago. I was not about the stand in that line so I think I will show up an hour early with a book (my mom suggested taking one of those camping chairs, which sounds like a good idea, actually).
I know, I want the Wings to win because I can’t help but salivate over the possibility of an Original Six WCF plus the possibility that it will be a Detroit-Boston SCF.
To be honest, if forced to choose between Anaheim and Chicago in the WCF, I would be a Blackhawk supporter all the way. I can’t get over the fact that this Anaheim team drops gloves AFTER they win, multiple times. It’s like watching a Broad Street Bullies revival.
Besides, Chicago winning could still keep the Original Six scenario alive…
And may I say, Kathleen Sebelius puts me to sleep. How I would love to have seen Dean in that position. I’d just love to see somebody in that position with some passion who can articulate the issues in ways I can understand and relate to, instead of yesterday’s snoozerama. I realize I’m being somewhat petty, I suppose. I hope her demeanor is a tad more dynamic and assertive in the back rooms.

Senate Republicans have successfully filibustered David Hayes for ASSISTANT Director of Dept. of Interior. Next they plan to filibuster Obama himself, just because they wanna.
Talked to Mom the other day and she said the city of Chicago has gone berserk over the Blackhawks. I almost dropped my phone…
I don’t know if “gone berserk” is entirely accurate, but the interest level is definitely off the charts compared with, as you correctly identified, the situation since the early 1990s. When Dollar Bill Wirtz went to the great Union League Club in the sky in the fall of 2007, I’m slightly ashamed to say that the first thing on the minds of all us Hawks fans was that, whaddya know, the Hawks might finally have a shot at becoming a winning team again. Sure enough, with Wirtz’s son Rocky taking over, the franchise was finally allowed to join not just the 20th but the 21st century. For those who are familiar with the sad recent history of the Black Hawks, Rocky’s changes can be nicely summed up in one sentence: Home games are now televised. In addition, the cross-marketing that’s been going on with Chicago’s other sports teams has been very effective. The Hawks are no longer a (wealthy) neighborhood men’s club, but a pro sports franchise, and it shows in both their level of play and the size of their United Center crowds.
That is my favorite story of the day. I really hope they do it.

Is there an award for “Biggest Chickenhawk” and, if so, can I nominate Rusty Shakleford of the Jawa Report?
Bloggers Needed in Afghanistan; or, Rusty’s Dream Job Almost a Reality
How do you counter Taliban propaganda?Bloggers as counter agit-prop:
A former top military official believes he may have the answer, however: let troops blog in combat, so they can ward off the accusations of atrocities as they fight.
Awesome! Hey Pentagon, call me.
“call me”?
So, let me get this straight. Rusty’s “dreamjob” is to serve in Afghanistan but for some reason he has utterly failed to walk his ass down to the recruiter for the last 7+ years, but he really wants to go and is able to go if only the Pentagon would call and ask him to. Am I missing something?
I can just see him in 40 years talking to his Grandkids: “Well kids, Grand-dad would have served but the Pentagon never called him personally to ask him to and back then the Army was invitation-only”
# If one were to say the vice president emeritus, as a matter of understood decorum, should refrain from criticism of the subsequent administration, then why did former vice president Al Gore — to the delight of much of the media — go on a virtual barnstorming crusade against the Bush administration in language far more partisan and hysterical (e.g., “He [Bush] lied to us! He betrayed this country! He played on our fears!”)?

Partisan and hysterical? It was all true. Bush lied and attacked Iraq.
In Al Gore’s movie and book An Inconvenient Truth, he presents a graph which he identifies [in the book] as “Dr. Thompson’s Thermometer.” Gore attributes this graph to the ice core research of Lonnie Thompson, and says [in the book] that it provides independent evidence for the validity of the “Hockey Stick” temperature reconstruction of Michael Mann and coauthors.
As it happens, the image Gore presented actually was Mann’s Hockey Stock, spliced together with the post-1850 instrumental record as if they were a single series, and not Thompson’s ice core data at all. See Al Gore and “Dr. Thompson’s Thermometer”.
