Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

The press swings at every pitch, we don’t have to.

Everybody saw this coming.

Decision time: keep arguing about the last election, or try to win the next one?

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

After dobbs, women are no longer free.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

They spent the last eight months firing professionals and replacing them with ideologues.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

Wake up. Grow up. Get in the fight.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Roe is not about choice. It is about freedom.

When we show up, we win.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

When I was faster i was always behind.

Weird. Rome has an American Pope and America has a Russian President.

Rupert, come get your orange boy, you petrified old dinosaur turd.

The media handbook says “controversial” is the most negative description that can be used for a Republican.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

The Right Answer

by John Cole|  October 23, 20098:00 pm| 50 Comments

This post is in: Media, Republican Crime Syndicate - aka the Bush Admin.

FacebookTweetEmail

This is exactly the right answer:

Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. had a blunt response on Friday to the latest broadsides from former Vice President Dick Cheney: “Who cares?”

In the latest exchange between old and new administrations, Mr. Biden rebuffed his predecessor’s criticism about President Obama’s handling of Afghanistan as “absolutely wrong.” And Mr. Biden rejected the last review of the war conducted by the White House under former President George W. Bush and Mr. Cheney as “irrelevant.”

They had their eight years, and their record speaks for itself. Why the hell the beltway media still have their lips planted on Cheney’s behind is beyond me, but Biden got this exactly right. The answer to any question involving Dick Cheney’s policy opinions is “WHO CARES?” And that goes double for his idiot daughter.

Whenever I see Dick Cheney on TV I think “How are they getting a live video feed from the depths of hell? And how do they filter out all the screaming?”

And then I remember that he’s still on earth, which means THIS must be hell.

“Who cares.” That should be the rallying cry of the administration — each time a wingnut attacks. The administration should add “We Care.” They should make ads that feature wingnuts with the response “Who Cares.” Then the administration should state their position and say “We Care.”

If we’re going to listen to Cheney, why don’t we just make Rumsfeld Secretary of Defense again? Even a year after he was sacked, his Vice-Satanic Majesty was still grumbling that Rumsfeld ought to have been kept on.
    .
Though I do fantasize that someone will say to him: y’know that omnipotent presidency you worked so relentlessly to create? Well, someone else has the wheel of your creation now, so shut your trap and like it.

    Its all just filler…

Who the f — cares about this?

    Really.

    Generating income and “hits”

    But have fun anyway.

Read the moribund NY Times today and other laments about the death of the “Press”… Mainly about “who is going to be the expert and tell us what to think?”

That said, what are we replacing that jaundiced and “bought” perspective with? The importance of “I” and “ME”…what I think —

We have a torturous, painful and not particularly efficient process for screening out the fakers from the players on the net. It will cost us plenty, make no mistake.

Hopefully we can some day get to another, better phase where we are not worried that any Glenn Beck type with a shtick can reign supreme — that facts arent just a matter of opinion and that we can actually think of our nation as a community of shared interests, if not demographics…

    Sheesh, in MY lifetime?

This is the Joe Biden slip o’ the tongue for which he was hired.

You don’t know the half of it.

Mr. Biden shrugged off Mr. Cheney’s point that the old administration had left behind a review of Afghanistan.
“Who cares what — ” he said, and then stopped himself to find another way to put it. (“I can see the headline now,” said the famously free-wheeling vice president. “I’m getting better, guys.”)

But seriously, this is well past overdue. The Village would do well to take notes on this.

We blew up the MSM. We have an obligation, I would think, to at least work to do what the old MSM was supposed to (but mostly never did) do… we CARE about democracy and representative governance and competence and facts and all that — right? We care about the deep stuff that we know takes time and work and all that — right?

I see it here on BJ much more ( and hence this is where I gripe) — but shit, I get scare sometimes when I read across the spectrum from left to right and think — shit — this is to inform the people and help governance?

Good for Biden. I’m glad to see this administration on the offense. It’s an incredibly refreshing change from the typical Democrat action, which generally involves cowering and sucking up to the Republicans lest they be seen as non-bipartisan.

I think the Republicans don’t have a clue how to deal with this new breed of Dems. Calling them out? Saying their opinion doesn’t matter? Ridiculing them? The Republicans don’t know what’s hit them. I’m enjoying that very much.

the Bush administration spent their first year doing whatever the opposite of what the Clinton administration would have done and had advised them to do. That got us 9/11, and was profoundly and criminally stupid of the Republicans, but they couldn’t help themselves. The Obama administration has been a little too cautious to change course, but at least they are thinking things through. Sometimes when I hear what Cheney has to say I wonder why the hell he didn’t do that when he was in charge. It’s always easier to give advice, particularly if the people in charge are more competent than you and basically doing the right things.
