Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

The words do not have to be perfect.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Putin dreamed of ending NATO, and now it’s Finnish-ed.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

DeSantis transforms Florida into 1930s Germany with gators and theme parks.

Don’t expect peaches from an apple tree.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

In my day, never was longer.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

Schmidt just says fuck it, opens a tea shop.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

A last alliance of elves and men. also pet photos.

They’re not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

“I never thought they’d lock HIM up,” sobbed a distraught member of the Lock Her Up Party.

White supremacy is terrorism.

    He’s 10 weeks old today — and the sticker came on a parcel that the husband ordered, and because we’re warped, we couldn’t resist. No babies were harmed in the staging of this photograph.

    I finished up a clean install of 7…and now whenever I boot, I get the option to boot into 7 or Vista. I’m confused.

    I removed the Windows.old folder, which I assume held everything Vista-related. But I guess not. Anyone got any tips? Not that it’s a huge deal, but it is sort of annoying.

    @Sentient Puddle:

    Here is the best free uninstaller that is very thorough. If a Vista folder still exists it should pick it up and you can remove it. Otherwise you can do searches for leftover Vista file and delete them manually.

    Thankfully, Mini-Red Kitten is Canadian, so being a “heavy” baby isn’t a ‘pre-existing condition’ that disqualifies him from health care.

    Also. Frahad Manjoo raves about Windows 7 – It’s better than Snow Leopard! I’m sold.

    A new bleep from Ezra. Lots of confusion on HCR and who said what, but it seems clear that the WH wants Snowe on the bill to call it bi-partisan and as an extra vote yea on cloture to get the 60 votes needed. And that means acceptance at least of the trigger nonsense in a final bill. Stay tuned.

    I like the part about the WH telling Reid “We hope you know what your doing” So comforting.

    Never having seen Windows 7……

    There’s an entry in the boot.ini file which is a hidden file on the root of the boot drive (usually c:\). You can edit the file with notepad or try start->run msconfig and edit the entry there. Just delete the line pointing to the now gone Vista install.

    Copy and save the file (as boot.old or whatever) before hashing it.

    If it goes horribly sideways see my first point.

    Superfreakeconomists discuss the economics of prostitution. Best rebuttal:

    The only appropriate response to the ridiculous question posed in the article would be, “I don’t know, why don’t you suck cock for a living?” Why don’t you suck cock, out of your fancy house, instead of being a famous economist? I’m sure that will be the pertinent question in “SuperDuperFreakonomics: The Freakiestonomics Yet.”

    @General Winfield Stuck:

    “We hope you guys know what you’re doing.”

    Now, see, I can live with this attitude from the WH. I happen to think the opt-out thing is bad policy for the country as a whole, but I simply refuse to believe it’s impossible to get the votes without getting drastic like that.

    I know it’s been a long process and we’re really in the endgame and things are starting to get sketchy, but I’m actually still optimistic. Weird, huh?

    @JenJen:

    but I’m actually still optimistic. Weird, huh?

    Not at all. I’m still optimistic, even more so. And I also think the opt out is bad public policy, but may be necessary to get past the filibuster and avoid the messy process of reconciliation. And I really think Obama and the WH knows that a “trigger option” isn’t going to fly with the base, and they know full well that 2010 will be a disaster if the base is pissed and dejected. Harry Reid is the Senate leader, not Obama, and dems are not like repubs taking commands from the executive branch made in public. And having Reid take the lead is the best way to get this done IMHO>
