So the NYTimes story today – Obama says “systemic failure.” So systemic failure in Obama Admin=One guy burns his balls off=systemic failure in Bush Admin=Over 3,000 dead.
Obama is as bad as Bush!
Col. Klink
The three stooges of Lieberman, Graham and McCain are at it again. Apparently if we close Gitmo, Western Civilization will fall.
SIA aka ScreaminginAtlanta
Why would anyone who seems sane want to be president of this stupid-ass country? Fuck.
A Mom Anon
I made it through about 3 mins of morning”news” before I shut off the teevee. It seems the CIA knew there was an underwear bomber on the loose about a month or more ago and nothing was done to stop it. And now Yemen is the hotbed of world wide terror plots and we’re all doomed and gonna die and oh the horror and there’s “New Danger In The Skies”.
I don’t know how people live on a steady diet of fear like that. A few minutes of this madness on TV and I started feeling tired and drained of energy. I just can’t imagine living with that sense of impending doom in my head all the time.

@SIA aka ScreaminginAtlanta: Because with constant work you may be able to make the country a little bit better. At the very least, you may be able to stop it from getting worse as quickly as it would have.

To end the day with dough-hua (tofu pudding. YUM), fried wantons, pork buns, fried oysters, green tea ice cream, and watermelon juice.
Night market food, bitchez. It’ll cure whatever ails ya.
P.S. As much as I miss y’all, I can’t tell you how fucking great it is not to be steeped in American politics every day.
SIA aka ScreaminginAtlanta
@asiangrrlMN: Taking a sabbatical? I always like it when you post.
SGEW
@SIA aka ScreaminginAtlanta:
The Onion, as always, finely encapsulated this notion:
Nov. 5th, 2008: “Black Man Given Nation’s Worst Job”
Dec. 1st 2009: “Obama Tells Nation He’s Going Out For Cigarettes“
asiangrrlMN
@SIA aka ScreaminginAtlanta: Thanks! I’m in Taiwan right now, and our days are packed. I can only steal time here and there, so I post when I can. I’m fourteen hours ahead of Central Mumble mumble Time, so it’s difficult for me to post when I normally do.
SIA aka ScreaminginAtlanta
@SGEW: Heh. I need to read the Onion more. I also liked “White House Reveals Obama Is Bipolar, Has Entered Depressive Phase”. http://www.theonion.com/content/video/white_house_reveals_obama_is
SIA aka ScreaminginAtlanta
@asiangrrlMN: Well that explains the night market menu! Ours is more like fried apple pie and beef jerky.
asiangrrlMN
@SIA aka ScreaminginAtlanta: Um, those both actually sound good to me. Yeah, we don’t have any night markets in MN. Taiwan, there are food markets a’plenty.

@John Cole:
WVU dodged a rather large bullet last night against Marquette, but I suspect their unbeaten run ends against Purdue.

Substitute Diet Coke for coffee, and add steak and egg burrito.
The Ghost of Richard Jaeckel
The office building where I work has a sort-of resident stray cat. One usually only sees her at night and she darts away if one gets too close. She was limping around the parking lot this morning, and I got closer than I ever have. No visible injury but by the way she’s hiding under cars it’s something.
The next person who gives me grief for spoiling my cats, I’m punching in the head.

@arguingwithsignposts: Yes, the NY Times doubled (or tripled) down on the freakout today, with a front page story, an editorial, and Dowd all running with the OH NOES!
AkaDad
Obama can prove that he’s not weak on terrorism by invading Nigeria and Holland.

@jwb
I noticed that Times trifecta too. Had been hoping the NYT would hold off for a while longer before following the WaPo off the lemming cliff, but they seem to be racing toward the precipice with all the abandon of Wile E. Coyote chasing the Roadrunner.
Svensker
Since this is an open thread, can someone please explain Jib Jab to me? Apparently people find it amusing, because the latest JJ is posted all over the internets right now and the rellies are flooding my e-mail inbox with links to it.
Am I alone in finding Jib Jab pointless, unfunny and boring?
(And Asiangrl — your night market sounds amazing and enviable. But about the time of your posts, you wouldn’t have that problem if you remember to live in the now. Then it’s always the same time.)

@SiubhanDuinne:
So, since the guy didn’t succeed, the flight hadn’t landed, and nothing was destroyed except for his laptop, does that mean there still hasn’t been an attack on American soil during the Obama administration?
ETA: It doesn’t surprise me that they’re following WaPo into freakout mode. HCR is boring process, and what else is there to cover during the post-Christmas dead week? It’s the “Oh, look, a shiny new toy!” school of “journalism.”
asiangrrlMN
@Svensker: I don’t find Jib Jab funny, either. I thought the first one was worth a few chuckles, but the rest, eh. You are right about time. It’s MY time all the time!
Tattoosydney
@asiangrrlMN:
Yum. Now I’m jealous.
asiangrrlMN
@Tattoosydney: Hi, hubby. Wait until you see the photo album I’m about to link to in my blog. Then, you will REALLY be jealous!

We are having New Year’s Eve supper with a couple of acquaintances (friends yet to be) and one of them is a batshit crazy TeaBagger. He has some little company here that designs hunting attire to fool deer into wanting to fornicate with hunters, making for a really close shot, if you know what I mean. This looney wants to move his company to Bolivia, leaving only an outlet in the US to avoid taxes, etc. He should be more bubbles and fun than a case of champagne.
@asiangrrlMN: You know what a Yuzu is?
asiangrrlMN
@SteveinSC: I am not sure. There are many citrus fruits here. What do they taste like?
Tattoosydney
@asiangrrlMN:
I want go to the market in the last photo, but the seashore photos are lovely as well.
Moar foodz fotos plz?
Ps: keep breathing, don’t hit anyone. Going home is another day closer.

For your puzzling pleasure: Brisbane Arbour.

Make mine reheated leftover sausage & grits casserole. The tv is o.f.f., at least until the bowl game at 8 tonight. I have a mani-pedi @ 5:30 EST. I plan to leave a little early and do some after-Christmas sale shopping for me. Only 4 1/2 days left of my winter break, and I’m not going to let all this noise get me down.

After reading Dowd’s column, Sully is calling for Napolitano to be fired. Talk about piles of stupid.

@SteveinSC:
I don’t give legal advice in blog comments, but your pal needs to get better tax advice than he is currently getting.
AkaDad
That’s an excellent way to show your patriotism.

My circadian rhythms are shot. I was off Sunday and Monday, worked at the Big Box Bookstore last night, am off today and work the morning shift tomorrow, then different shifts Friday and Saturday. Watched Wallander last night (the Swedish one, not Kenneth Branagh), then was up until 4:30, sort of out of it but not a bit sleepy. Then of course woke up like clockwork at 7:30. This probably means a siesta is in the cards for this afternoon.
Part of this, I think, is that I don’t have a software project in hand right now, so my home time tends to “drift” a little. Have been thinking about starting a personal project until a paying one comes along.
Question: Python or Ruby? I know a little about both, have been thinking about really learning one of them.

@asiangrrlMN: Very fragrant, like a mixture of lemon and tangerine. The look like a rough, yellow tangerine and the Japanese use them a lot in their cooking. E.g. they dry the fruit slices for use in tea, float them in Winter Solstice baths, core them, add miso, sake, scallops and bake them for the flavor. The juice is extracted for citrus vinegar. Don’t know if they are grown in Taiwan, though.
@AkaDad The guy is serious enough to have gone to the state capitol for one of the “spontaneous” demonstrations. He got after me one day about why I didn’t join him, the country’s going to hell in a handbasket, etc. I told him I was a fucking socialist and he seemed stunned. Hmmm, wonder why?

I prefer a nice toast with my coffee, maybe a spot of jam.
Thread is so hard to get out of one’s teeth.

@SteveinSC:
Nicely done. Having to realize that “normal” people (i.e., people that they know/are friendly with in real life) don’t see the world as they do is one of the best things that can happen.

Yuzu. Nasty business for raw eating.
Mikan are tastier with toast and coffee.

It might make you feel better to know David Schuster was just pushing back against the GOP talking points on underpants with Rep Chris Rogers (R-MI) regarding particularly Heokstra. Pretty fun watching Shoe Bomber Reid and his federal trial brought to bear.
Rogers kept his composure and somehow maintained a reasonable tone while being eviscerated. Schuster did call him too classy a guy to send out a fundraising letter based on a bombing attempt within days, as Peter did. (Rogers chuckled) I have to wonder what it is like to be somewhat sane and have to repeat the GOP crap lines?
Funny stuff sometimes – unless you take it seriously.
asiangrrlMN
@SteveinSC: Hm. Not sure. I will ask my mother. I wouldn’t want to miss it if we have them here. And, fuck yeah! Sockulism!
@Steeplejack: Hi, Steepman. My circadian rhythms are shot, too. I pick Ruby because I like the name better.
@Tattoosydney: New blog entry up with yesterday’s best photos. Many from the night market. One of me eating tofu pudding, my favorite dessert. My bro will be uploading a ‘best of’ set every day, and I will link to each one from my blog. Thanks for the supportive words. They really help.
