Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

They’re not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

Come on, man.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

The revolution will be supervised.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

In my day, never was longer.

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

I was promised a recession.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

People are complicated. Love is not.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

After roe, women are no longer free.

We still have time to mess this up!

Optimism opens the door to great things.

This blog will pay for itself.

Take your GOP plan out of the witness protection program.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Been a Long, Long Week

I feel like I am in a holding pattern because my shoulder hurts like hell, but I know the recovery won’t start until I have surgery on Tuesday. It just feels like these are wasted days, gimping around in a sling wincing every time I take a step.

On top of that, watching the news is no longer an option. Feh. On the upside, there is a First 48 marathon on A & E.

Yeah, all of this shook out on the same week that I had to stop reading my usual message board. No politics, no talking with my friends, I might end up doing work at work!

You know it’s a sign of the Apocalypse when Andrew Sullivan is the calmest voice on the internet today. Maybe it’s because he’s British and is not locked in to a lifelong commitment to the United States.

The First 48 is not what you should be watching if you’re depressed, man. But I suspect (pun intended) you know that.

When people forget that, it only leads to heartbreak.

A Silver Mt Zion – Built then Burnt

Why are we all so alone here
All we need is a little more hope, a little more joy
All we need is a little more light, a little less weight, a little more freedom.
If we were an army, and if we believed that we were an army
And we believed that everyone was scared like little lost children in their grown up clothes and poses
So we ended up alone here floating through long wasted days, or great tribulations.
    While everything felt wrong
Good words, strong words, words that could’ve moved mountains
Words that no one ever said
We were all waiting to hear those words and no one ever said them
    And the tactics never hatched
And the plans were never mapped
And we all learned not to believe
And strange lonesome monsters loafed through the hills wondering why
And it is best to never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever wonder why
So tangle – oh tangle us up in bright red ribbons!
    Let’s have a parade
It’s been so long since we had a parade, so let’s have a parade!
    Let’s invite all our friends
    And all our friends’ friends!
Let’s promenade down the boulevards with terrific pride and light in our eyes
    Twelve feet tall and staggering
Sick with joy with the angels there and light in our eyes
Brothers and sisters, hope still waits in the wings like a bitter spinster
Impatient, lonely and shivering, waiting to build her glorious fires
It’s because of our plans man; our beautiful ridiculous plans
Let’s launch them like careening jetplanes
Let’s crash all our planes in the river
Let’s build strange and radiant machines at this jericho waiting to fall

Despair can be gorgeous. Just sayin’.

“The First 48” was a great show, until they started taping and showing the family notifications. Yes, people have to sign an agreement to be on TV, but they did not sign the release form knowing that these bastards were going to tape the worst possible moment of their lives for national broadcast – the moment when they are told a loved one has been murdered. It was a good show until they took it to a level I have never seen before, and I haven’t watched it since.

    @ Bud:

Jeez, I hadn’t watched it in a long while. That’s hideous. Guess they decided their ratings were slipping.

    I’ll pass.

I’ve watched the First 48 a few times and enjoyed it. I think you used to work in law enforcement in some capacity (corrections officer?) What do you think of the show overall?

In personal news, I’ve been denied health insurance due to allergies. Well, they counter-offered the same plan for twice the premiums. Basically, through the individual market, I’ll be paying 70% more for 280% higher deductible as compared to what I was paying through COBRA. Which ended last year.

Yeah, the recent political news feels like an extra hard kick to the balls right now.

And my legislator is Boustany, a Republican who seems to be very against the current HCR bill (Yeah, pretty much a given, eh?). I just can’t get the motivation to call his office in support of the Senate Bill right now…

Hang in there , John Boy. There’s always tomorrow. Any day above ground is a good one. The longest journey begins with a single step. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. This will hurt me more than it hurts….well, maybe not.
