Your Congressman’s office would also love to hear from your friends, family, coworkers, fellow parishioners and anyone you email on a regular basis. Just a thought.

Just talked to a staffer for my Congressman in Northern Virginia (Gerry Connelly). He’s taking no position yet. I didn’t get the sense that he’s being flooded with calls.

I think there is a real opening here. I would suggest to call Rep. Grivajla a thousand times. He likes his time in the spotlight too much.

I put it on my facebook, the response was underwhelming, though.

Called my Brooklyn Congressmember Yvette Clarke for the second time. She’s “reading through the Senate Bill.” Further discussion with the staff member suggested that she wants something more like the House bill and is waiting to see if the leadership will bring the Senate bill to the floor. She’s open to doing stuff in reconciliation.
I suspect a lot of them are like this — basically trying to figure out what their options are and keeping them open for now.

Ditto in my case.

Learn the lesson.Elect Sestak.
Specter will run after the election. Why go for another Baucus/Nelson/Landrieu creature in a *Blue State* like NJ?
In Blue states, Dems should not settle for moderates. Primary the hell out of them. They should be true blue.
In Blue states Dems should not settle for Rethug centrists. Snowe and Collins needs to go.
Feinstein should go. She is not blue enough for blue California.
Specter need to go. He is not blue enough for blue Jersey.
You need change? Work for it.

How to cap a horrible week? (Haiti; Massachusetts; SCOTUS; Air America goes bankrupt…)
The Mets acquire Gary Matthews Jr. from the Angels of The Angels. Granted, they only have to pay $2 million of the $23-million-plus remaining on his contract, but that contract runs for three years and is effectively untradeable, barring someone being dumber than Omar Minaya — and last I heard, that’s the man nominally in charge of the GOP! :-)
I just hope my family stays healthy until Monday; that’s about all that could make this week worse.
[Will be calling my Congressguy after I retrieve the younger offspring from school.]

I also called Connolly’s office. (Waves to econwatcher) Pretty much the same response. I was surprised that she didn’t ask my name or even zip code. It was all “OK, whatever. Thanks for calling.” Probably a big fat waste of time.

kangaroo,
Specter may not be blue enough for NJ, but that doesn’t really matter since he’s in Pennsylvania.

@kangaroo: I live in NY. I’d love to primary Gillibrand back to private practice. No really Blue challenger has emerged — and there’s no way I’m voting for Harold Ford. I’m still FURIOUS at Eliot Spitzer at leaving us with only one good candidate for two major offices (Cuomo’s running for Governor, most likely) here.
Who would you try to push into the race? And how?

I called my Congresswoman’s (Anna Eshoo) office in DC. She has been getting a lot of calls, staffer would not say how they are running or what her actions would be.
I asked her to pass the Senate bill as it stands and to work to fix it via a reconciliation bill that fixes the funding mechanism – get rid of the excise tax on “cadilac plans” and insert the “millionaires” tax from the house bill.
