Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

People really shouldn’t expect the government to help after they watched the GOP drown it in a bathtub.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

You passed on an opportunity to be offended? What are you even doing here?

Not rolling over. fuck you, make me.

Our messy unity will be our strength.

Let me file that under fuck it.

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

This blog will pay for itself.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

The willow is too close to the house.

I would try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

Dear elected officials: Trump is temporary, dishonor is forever.

Mediocre white men think RFK Jr’s pathetic midlife crisis is inspirational. The bar is set so low for them, it’s subterranean.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

Fight them, without becoming them!

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

The media handbook says “controversial” is the most negative description that can be used for a Republican.

If ‘weird’ was the finish line, they ran through the tape and kept running.

We will not go back.

Take it away, Bad Horse’s Filly:

I’d bet everyone’s mom has some version of this that she served – especially if you grew up in the 60’s and 70’s. This was a weekly staple of my childhood. Of course we had to eat it off the bone, we were so deprived back then.
__
So I offer a menu that tastes great, is easy to put together and for me, has a lot of nostalgia.
__
On the board tonight:
__
Oven Fried Chicken
Broccoli
Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Sliced Pears

Recipes and shopping list at the link.

And from BHF’s co-blogger Jeffrey W, a photo of a guy bird who’d have settled for KFC…

Leftover jambalaya for dinner here, after another long-ass Thursday. Kind of surprised no one talked about this story, about how traders are making it more difficult for Greece to recover because they’re betting it will happen.

    glowing review by Ezra:

The Democrats got hours to make their case, at an event they planned, with one of their own controlling the discussion. For that reason, I imagine that this will be the last bipartisan summit we see for awhile. The format is simply too kind to the president, and he takes advantage of it ruthlessly. When the camera panned, you could almost see Republicans wondering why they’d accepted the invitation.

The real beauty of a well-laid trap is watching your prey walk into said trap with eyes wide open. Of course the meme that Obama = fail is trying hard to permutate, but if the indie callers on CSPAN are any indication it may not end up being perceived that way.

@Yutsano: Any idea if CSPAN is going to re-broadcast? Earlier it was on CSPAN3 which for some reason I don’t get. And MSNBC went to Olympics coverage. Would love to hear some of the callers too.

@SIA: I wish I could tell you, but I’m still at the office and unable to dig that info up right now. I’d like to see the replay myself honestly.

I watched more of it on the CSPAN rerun. There’s a young aide/intern behind Eric Cantor and he totally seemed to understand the disaster that is the Republican party at an Obama event.

If I hear “clean sheet of paper” again I am going to throw up on that freaking clean sheet of paper . Or do something with it with the other orifice and get that piece of paper very dirty. Also too, Step by Step is a song by the Backstreet Boys, not a procedural maneuver in Congress.

@SIA: I just checked the cspan TV schedule on-line for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and it doesn’t look like it’s on again.
