For those of you biting your nails or popping popcorn, here’s the Daily Whipline [pdf], the House Majority Whip’s report on what’s going to happen on the House Floor today. Summary:
- House convenes at 1 PM with the usual bullshit (prayers and some spouting off.)
- An hour of debate, and then a vote, on the rule that sets down how the House will debate the Senate amendments to the House bill, and the reconciliation motion. Louise Slaughter will manage this with her ceremonial katana sword while swigging from a bottle of T-bird.
- Assuming the rule passes, two hours of debate and then a vote on the Senate amendments (HR 3590) and the reconciliation (HR 4872). Steny Hoyer has the honors, and I assume he’ll use his ceremonial bullwhip and distribute a tray of Jell-o shots, pursuant to the rule passed above.
It says the session will go into the “evening”, which I’m sure is an accurate prediction. I’d suggest a good drinking game where you take a shot every time a Republican is ruled out of order, but I don’t want any deaths from alcohol poisoning on my conscience.
Since this document urges all Democrats to vote yes, I assume that some teabagger will equate it to Steny Hoyer pissing on the Constitution in the well of the House, but I fearlessly link to it anyway, in the interest of transparency.
Update: Ezra says the House leadership predicts a vote at 9 PM.
robertdsc
Just once, I wish the procedural vote was straight party line. No Dems showing their cowardice and voting with the GOP animals.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
Can we place bets on who will make the craziest speech? I think Bachmann and King have to be disqualified for obviousness, so my win, place and show will be….
1) Louis Goehmert (sp?)
2) Patrick McHenry (been a while since he got any attention)
3) Virginia Foxx

We all are Brawndo drinkers now.
“I got a solution! You’re a dick, South Carolina, wat up?”
beltane
Too early for the tequila I take it. Since Lousie Slaughter is the one whose office was vandalized by a teabagger, I hope she is full of fire and fury today.
Joey Maloney
That’s some quality political writing, there. This is why I’m a Juicer.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
Anybody else think Louise Slaughter would, in fact, be a lot of fun to drink with?
And speaking of whipcounts, does anyone have an idea WTF is going on with Loretta Sanchez?
From Steve Benen. Is this her way of announcing her retirement?
Polish the Guillotines
Even if your rep is a solid yes, call their office and voice your support. They’re no doubt getting hassled by wingnuts, so pump them up and ask them to help with the whip count.
demo woman
I want to donate to reps who supported the bill tonight also. If all the progressive blogs linked to act blue can you imagine how much we could raise for the reps who passed the damn bill.
beltane
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: What about Joe Wilson? He has a tradition to uphold.
me
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: Maybe Goehmert will bring another abortion.
Mike Kay
can’t wait to see Boehner cry
HJA!
erikthered
Still crossing my fingers that my Rep, Bill Foster, will vote yes.
demkat620
Uh-oh. MSNBC sez Stupak and his 8 are a yes.
What now, NRO?
lamh31
what gonna happen when the Immigration rally today meets the teabaggers? hope the capitol police are able and ready for anything!
btw, the immigration rally has been scheduled for months.
Loneoak
C-SPAN says Stupak is a yes now. That’s it. Game over!

@beltane:
At her command. She got to keep the devil down in the hole.

I hope we get to see Barney Frank in all his lisping rhetorical splendor. His political warts notwithstanding, he is quick as a whip and knows how best to dig into the wittle-bittie GOP WTBs.
Joseph Nobles
God help me, I’ve started hearing Tupac instead of Stupak.
beltane
@lamh31: The teabaggers will probably run and hide at the sight of so many brown people.
JGabriel
@Jim, Foolish Literalist:
Wait. Bachmann is disqualified for obviousness, but Foxx isn’t?
Dude, that’s just Calvinball!
.
TR
Seriously, she’s a ringer for batshit crazy and stupid.
Joseph Nobles
Foxx is my Most Likely To Weep On The House Floor… wait, what am I saying? Boehner by a river Jordan!
Polish the Guillotines
@Loneoak: Awesome! This is important for so many reasons, not the least of which is this vote needs to clear the bar by more than just a couple inches. The more decisive the vote, the better (read, stronger) the Dems look, which will be important for future legislation. Further more, it’s a lesson to the public at large that people with divergent opinions can actually, you know, agree to disagree yet cooperate for the greater good.
lamh31
people aready speculating that the deal will be bad, but I don’t believe that Pelosi would let that happen.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@JGabriel:
Hee. Technically, it’s JimFL-ball. I thought I was gonna get called on Goehmert. I just figure Foxx flies a little lower than MB. I’m guessing al Foxeera gives Bachmann more airtime because of the starburst factor.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@lamh31: The Stupak deal? I shudder to think. But I can’t imagine he got anything into the actual language of the bill. Probably there will be some sort of signing statement reaffirming Hyde, the ‘baggers and PUMAs will call it a betrayal, the end of Roe, call on HIllary or Dennis or Howard or ? to mount a primary challenge, then JP Stevens will announce his retirement and everybody will get their perspective back.
gbear
@Jim, Foolish Literalist:
Based on these comments to CSPAN, I’ll bet on Devin Nunes, although Bachmann may be hard to top.
Smiling Mortician
Watching the one-minutes on C-SPAN. The republicans sure are making me askeered of tyranny. Oh, and entitlemented dictatorialisms. Those’re scary too.
Maude
@Polish the Guillotines: You gonna be here on BJ tonight when the vote is finally taken?

Snarky Pickles
Spoke to Solomon Ortiz’ (D-TX) office — he was listed earlier as undecided. The staffer told me that they’d been getting lots of ugly calls, but that Rep. Ortiz is a “yes.”
Snarky Pickles
@Jim, Foolish Literalist:
Reportedly, that’s what it will be — an executive order reaffirming that Hyde applies to HCR. It’s silly, it’s pointless, and Stupak is a petulant, narcissistic fucktard.
Abortion services are legal, and they are often medically necessary. They should be available under whatever the funding source. I don’t like Hyde, but it’s the law, and if an executive order saying that “yes, we will follow the law in implementing this reform,” then fine. This is kabuki; what matters is getting the votes.
Joel
@Joseph Nobles: Not really much difference, to be honest.
Leelee for Obama
Well, I will have to check in with y’all when I get home tonight, as I have a work-related situation this evening(THANK YOU FSM!!!!). I am watching the proceeding now, and will continue until I have to leave, but keep the home fires burning if I have to leave before the vote, eh?
Genine
I will definitely be checking in with Balloon Juice throughout the day.
I think if this bill passes, I’ll burst into tears just like when Obama won. I get all misty just THINKING about it passing. I’ll probably be some sort of body of water if it actually passes.
The opposition to a bill that will actually help people get the MEDICAL ATTENTION they need, have better access to it makes the mind reel. At least if the bill passes, it’s a step in the right direction.
Ash Can
I hate to think of how much I’d be willing to pay to actually see this.
