Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I like political parties that aren’t owned by foreign adversaries.

Fundamental belief of white supremacy: white people are presumed innocent, minorities are presumed guilty.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

Republicans don’t lie to be believed, they lie to be repeated.

Trump’s cabinet: like a magic 8 ball that only gives wrong answers.

Jesus watching the most hateful people claiming to be his followers

Every decision we make has lots of baggage with it, known or unknown.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

“woke” is the new caravan.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

This fight is for everything.

The Giant Orange Man Baby is having a bad day.

If rights aren’t universal, they are privilege, not rights.

If America since Jan 2025 hasn’t broken your heart, you haven’t loved her enough.

I really should read my own blog.

A norm that restrains only one side really is not a norm – it is a trap.

Those who are easily outraged are easily manipulated.

Bark louder, little dog.

Innocent people do not delay justice.

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

The snowflake in chief appeared visibly frustrated when questioned by a reporter about egg prices.

My right to basic bodily autonomy is not on the table. that’s the new deal.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

Always been a fan of this band, and I found myself cranking Electric at ear bleeding volumes today:

Can’t find a decent version of Peace Dog.

Talk amongst yourselves.

Saw a decent sized anti-war protest today, in fact it was about the same size as the tea party protest here the other day. Not a single mention on the evening news though.

O.M.G. (to use my 8-year-old daughter’s favorite phrase)…I knew coming to this blog would pay off in the long run.

I’ll see your “always been a fan” and raise you a “was a fan even through the serious suck years” (and just eagerly downloaded new Slash w/ Ian Astbury on vocals…I’ll take what I can get at this point!)

If you want a good copy of Peace Dog, I have a few non-album versions that were on the Rare Cult box set, and do they ever RAWK – I put ’em on iTunes, so however I can send that to you, let me know!

    Peace is a dirty word
She used to be a faded bird, yeah
    And war, she’s a whore,
Don’t you know we love her, more and more

(from memory – hope that’s right?)

Holy christ, my girl took me to Peter Lugar’s Steakhouse for my birthday dinner last night. And she got me an atlas of famous battles printed in 1876. I don’t know what love is, but I think I’m getting close to finding out. It’s nice dating a girl woman smarter than you are.

Oooh, Electric. It would resurface like a bout of ebola, destroying other music forms and eclipsing rational thought.

For about a week. Then back into hiding it goes for another year or two.

Caribou’s new dark roast, Lacuna, is possibly the best coffee I’ve ever had. My daughter just bought me 5 pounds worth of beans. I am the luckiest mom on the face of the earth.

    @Zam:

There’s going to be a protest tomorrow moring in St. Paul at St. Thomas University (mottto: the best business degree that money can buy).

The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis have invited two leaders of the fight against same-sex marriage in California’s Proposition 8 battle in 2008, Maggie Gallagher and Bishop Salvatore Cordileone, to speak about bringing the battle against marriage equality to Minnesota.

I’m going to try to be there. If I make a sign, it will say:

As if I’m going to let the Catholic church tell ME who I’m not supposed to love.

    April 16, 2010 at 10:25 pm

@gbear: They really want to fight this battle now? All one would need is a sign with a pic of the smiling pope and the words: No to gay marriage, yes to raping little boys.

If you haven’t seen the Faux News Jail clip yet, I highly recommend it: http://www.tnr.com/blog/jonathan-chait/fox-news-its-very-finest. This alternate reality world we’re living in has got to be one of our biggest problems. Maybe Jake Tapper will show this tape of his “sister” organization to his own viewers as a means of airing out the family’s dirty laundry. Or maybe not.

    E! True Hollywood story:

when i first moved to LA at 22 to make my fortune etc. on my very first day in the city i went to look for a soccer game, as i am wont to do. happened on a pick up game at UCLA. there was a guy playing, sun-weathered face, rocker hair, and a wicked left foot. i kept staring at him–i knew this guy, but couldn’t place it. finally, after the game, i say: fuck, that’s Billy Duffy of the Cult!!!! i saw him rock it at the Rat in Boston AND at some place in Hartford!!!! my first star sighting!!!!!

20 years later, we still play soccer together. billy is a super person and still can tear it up both on the guitar and on the field.

Mobile text entry fail. I meant:

The entire solar system is islamofascist thanks to our cryptic Islam president. I know this because I looked up and saw that the moon is a crescent. I now suspect that, given proper magnification, there are crescents everywhere. WHY IS THE MEDIA NOT REPORTING THIS?!

that fact that john and dougj are such brilliant writers is JUST enough to overcome the fact that john thinks that republicans somehow changed under W. like they weren’t always the same fucking liars and cheats and frauds until suddenly W. rode in a horse of shit.

i find that unforgivable BUT I AM STRUGGLING TO BE A BIGGER MAN in my senescense.

anyway Renato, grumble grumble grumble as usual i should be at coachella etc.

I was a big fan back in high school – and went with a car load of friends to see the Cult open for Billy Idol in Houston (probably around 1985 or so). Man, that was a show. Idol put on a great performance but he kept forgetting the lyrics. The stage design was a giant backdrop of a woman’s open legs (parted and feet out toward the audience) with a giant mock up of his head rising between the thighs. Ahhh, so classy!
