    Have a great weekend, y’all. If you’re the praying type, a prayer for those who live along the Gulf Coast would not be out of order.

    I just read this and now I am feeling ill.

    Governor Tim Pawlenty has signed a deal to publish a memoir in 2011.

    The fucking wingnut welfare queen doesn’t have enough interesting anecdotes to fill a tweet.

    @gbear:

    How does the same state produce Paul Wellstone, Al Franken, Tim Pawlenty, and Michelle Bachmann? Is there some weird shit in the water?

    @gbear: Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! You always bring the bad MN news to BJ! Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

    @burnspbesq: We tend to vote conservatively locally and liberally nationally. Michele Bachmann’s district is a weird pocket of its own.

    P.S. I was just stopping by for a bit before taking a nap. Now I am gonna have nightmares of Ratface Pawlenty.

    The world could be saved by the emergence of a science-friendly form of paganism. Many people need the spiritual belief system, others need the emotional release of fire ceremonies, and the rest of us just love a good party. Isn’t “God created the earth” enough reason to revere it? Worry less about your own or your neighbor’s sins, and worry more about the sins committed against the planet.

    I wax rhetorical; perhaps because today I completed week 2 of the C25K program. It’s remarkable that after only 2 weeks of regular exercise I’ve noticed a remarkable reduction in my craving for alcohol. Who would a thunk it?

    Did anyone else do the May Basket thing when they were kids – you know put candy and flowers in baskets and leave them on people’s front steps?

    My mom and I did that every year until I was about 10 or so. It was always special because it was also my mom’s birthday. She’s been gone now for 12 years and May Day always makes me miss her more than usual.

    re: the proposed Biometric Enrollment national ID card

    I was wondering, how many people accidentally hire an illegal immigrant? I’m sure it happens occasionally, but I bet the vast majority of the time the employer knows damn well the person he or she’s hiring is illegal. Biometric cards aren’t going to stop that, but they will be a pain in the ass for everybody else.

    Michelle Bachman’s (and my) hometown, Stillwater, MN, is home to some of the biggest assholes on the face of the Earth. Until I left there, I honestly believed it was normal for people to be complete shits all the time. The existence of general human decency came as quite a shock! That’s why I laugh when people try to analyze the teabagger hoax: are they racist? Populist? Libertarian? Shall we make common cause?!

    Nahhh, they’re just a bunch of assholes, man.

    I hope this isn’t applicable, but Redkitten mentioned getting Samkitten Motrin.

    On the local news tonight they announced (another) recall of certain products, dateline April 30, 2010, including children’s Motrin and including Canadian distribution:
    http://www.mcneilproductrecall.com/page.jhtml?id=/include/new_recall.inc

    @Platonicspoof: Crap. I’m certain she’s asleep but she did specifically mention that she gave SamKitten Motrin. It looks like it’s fortunately just a quality issue as opposed to something that would potentially cause adverse effects, nevertheless I hope she sees this.

    @Yutsano:
    I read their explanation for the recall a couple of times, but since I don’t know which company department writes their press releases, and individual responses vary even if the amount of active ingredient is correct, I had to mention it.

    Likewise, there’s no point in going to bed if I’m going to lay there wondering what if I hadn’t typed those few words.

    May 1, 2010 at 4:20 am

    @Yutsano:
    Redkitten’s website link is to her Flikr account, don’t know how often she checks it, but I copied my first comment here over there with a full explanation and a hope that they’re just playing it safe with the recall.

    I directed her to this thread as well because when I tested the McNeil recall link from her (Canadian) Flikr page, I got a 404 error saying the webpage was for U.S. use only.
    I don’t see links for other countries to use, which is beginning to irritate me.

    Redkitten, I don’t think WP will let me copy and paste the recall page with the lot numbers here, so if they don’t let you furriners see the page for some dogawful reason, the number to call should be 1-888-222-6036 .

    Again, I hope this is all for nothing.

    I saw the recall this morning — I woke up to my husband waving a printout of the recall in my face. Of course I had given him Motrin last night, where he was a bit feverish again. From what I understand of the recall, there have been no adverse health effects, but some bottles contain too much of the active ingredient, while others contain an active ingredient that is basically non-active…useless, in other words.

    So I definitely won’t give him more, but I’m not going to freak out about the small amount that he was already given — I had just bought the bottle, and he’s only had two doses out of it.

    It’s damn frustrating, though. It seems like every fracking week there’s another recall on a baby product. Are they TRYING to give us all stress-induced heart attacks?

    @Mark S.:

    It depends. I suspect a good deal of the undocumented issue involves domestic help like nannies and cooks. When was the last time you’ve even heard of domestic domestic help? These employers wouldn’t even bother to ask for a card-just pay in cash and let them sleep in the extra room upstairs.

    A biometric card only helps with jobs where anybody and their cousin can see the folks actually coming to and from work. If your maid never comes out of the house except to buy groceries and hang around the shops, who’s going to ever even going to ask for one?
