Fed and freshly furminated, his royal highness has decided on an early evening summer nap in front of the oscillating fan:
I’m pretty sure that right now he is plotting my death.
*** Update ***
Seth (my brother) sends along another picture of his puppy to be, Boghan:
That is one adorable puppy.

He’s definitely plotting something. Those two orange spots next to his ears look like horns. Are we sure he’s not El Diablo?

I might agree with you, but really, when you think about it, the war is over, and we lost.
We feed them, we give them affection on demand, we pay for their medical and dental, we let them sleep in our homes, shred our furniture, abuse us as they see fit, and pick up their poop.
They have nothing to gain now by killing their slaves.
General Egali Tarian Stuck
Yes, but it should be a good death. He will, of course, remember you as The Tuna Man.

Ahhhhh, Tunchie. I haz a happy now. Thanks, Cole.

What to eat? I’ve got some polenta cakes I could throw on the grill and get all crispy, but uhm I’d like something other than polenta for dinner. Chicken and beef are a 10 minute walk to the store, fish a twenty minute drive to the monger. So it’s probably not fish tonight.
What meat? How about a nice sauce? Just had something with bbq sauce the other day, so even tho it’s grilling, skip that.
Nothing that requires slow cooker as I want to eat in 3-4 hours (and don’t have ingredients yet), likewise no day long marinades, but shorter period marinades are ok.
John Cole
I should probably end the facade.
Tunch isn’t fierce in the least. He loves people. When people come to visit, he runs over to them to be pet and rub against them. He lets strangers pick him up and love all over him. I can’t tell you how many times people have said “what a friendly cat!”
For some reason though, I like to pretend he is evil. He’s really a big pussy, though.

News Alert: More than 1 million gallons likely spewing from BP leak, study says
04:21 PM EDT Thursday, June 10, 2010
——————–
New estimate suggests that, if the flow has been more or less consistent since the April 20 blowout, approximately 53.6 million to 64.3 million gallons of oil have emerged from the well. That is roughly five to six times the amount spilled in Alaskan waters in 1989 by the Exxon Valdez.

@ellaesther: As I just blathered in your blog, I think part of it is because the former is just mass dissemination, and the people involved aren’t the ones disseminating, whereas in the latter case, the info we get is usually through interviews with said subjects. Plus, people like the former get publicity for doing exactly nothing. At least actors have an actual job.

And thanks to Cole for letting us know the TunchForce has a soft side. That eases my mind.
But how does Tunch treat Cole?
The possibility remains that when the police and concerned neighbors break in someday to find out whatever happened to that Cole feller will be greeted by a very friendly and affectionate Tunch. Which will be nice ironic touch to the historical record.

Mnemosyne
@stuckinred:
IMO, the director’s cut really only works if you’ve already seen the one with the voiceover. Without it, I’m afraid the studio was right and it’s hella confusing to figure out what’s going on, even with the other changes that Scott made.
Once you’ve seen it with the voiceover, though, you can then enjoy the director’s cut because you know all of the stuff that doesn’t come through except in the voiceover, so you don’t need it anymore.
Just my two cents.

The best dystopian futuristic syfyers are the ones with the best atmospherics for imagining that world. Blade Runner is the best at that, imo. though the recent Children of Men is about equal to it. Totally agree. That’s why I love Alien (the first one) too. The ship was dirty and dripping with condensation and the crew was working class. It was a big departure from 2001, Star Trek and Star Wars. It was fully imagined because it was all used and abused, like everything would be in the ordinary course of business.
Chat Noir (iPhone)

General Egali Tarian Stuck
@Cat Lady: Alien was made during a period fraught with cheesy syfy movies, ( I loathed and still do SW’s) and when a friend told me I should see it, cause it was really good, I poo pooed it and didn’t watch it until AFTER Aliens came out in 86 that I saw in the theater, I think. I like Aliens a little better, only cause it had a few chuckles to break up the eerie dread serious of the first one.
Mnemosyne
@Cat Lady:
It’s funny, I always remember the original “Star Wars” movies as having these perfect, pristine environments, but then I see them on TV and realize that I’m totally misremembering. Luke’s landspeeder is missing huge chunks of paint. Tattooine is a dirty hellhole. There are scuffs on the walls of the imperial destroyers.
It’s like my mind backfilled and attributed all of the shiny perfection of the recent films to the original ones, but it’s not actually there.
dmsilev
@General Egali Tarian Stuck:
If you haven’t seen it already, go see the newly restored version of _Metropolis_. It’s the granddaddy of all of the dystopia films, and is worth seeing for the visuals alone (the plot is pretty trite, even now that there’s a mostly complete version of the film). I imagine that it’ll be out on DVD in a few months or so, but it’s worth seeing in the theater if possible.

Cat Lady
@General Egali Tarian Stuck:
I saw Alien the first week it came out in one of those old school That’s Entertainment era theaters, and it was a fucking trip I’m still not fully recovered from, that movie was that intense. The scene where the ship’s doctor gets “his” head bashed in and “he” starts to squirt – no shit, like 10 random people got up and left the theater because they just couldn’t handle the shock. At the end, I realized my hands hurt because I’d been clenching them so tight, and that I had been perched on the edge of my seat for an hour. That’s a movie.
Corner Stone
@SiubhanDuinne: I disagree that was an opportunity to get anywhere.
Instead of giving him a plank to ramble about things people may or may not understand, KO asked him a couple things people clearly would be baffled by his answers.

@Cat Lady: You got that right. I practically tied the armrests in knots.

@General Egali Tarian Stuck: Be careful, because there are several versions. The full version of the film had large chunks chopped out of it by the distributor in Germany immediately after the premiere, and it was thought that all that survived was the badly chopped up version, or the even more chopped up versions that resulted when various censors went at it.. The current DVDs are based on those. The visuals are there, but the story is screwed up to the point of being incomprehensible.
However, by sheerest chance, someone from Argentina happened to get a full version before it got chopped, and said full version ended up in a vault in Buenos Aires for several decades until someone found it in 2008. Two years of restoration later, the full version of the film was (re)released a week ago. _Metropolis_, now with an actually understandable plot! Should be out on DVD not too far in the future, I’d imagine.

Dear Lord, that interview with Alvin Greene was painful to watch. It’s so obvious he was put up to this. He sounds, well, non-Senatorial, to put it extremely charitably. This needs to be investigated fully, at least by the local and national media if not a formal authority.

@arguingwithsignposts: Channel owner NBC-Universal changed SciFi to SyFy in July 2009. They call it a rebranding. From the NY Times article on it: “If you ask people their default perceptions of Sci Fi, they list space, aliens and the future,” he added. “That didn’t capture the full landscape of fantasy entertainment: the paranormal, the supernatural, action and adventure, superheroes.” And NBC-Universal can OWN the name SyFy in ways they couldn’t own SciFi.
