Take it away, Bad Horse’s Filly:
It’s been a dizzying week, so I almost forgot is was Thursday. I’m hoping for a much quieter Friday and relaxing weekend. Anyone have any exciting plans? I’ll be gardening, cycling and vegging out to DVDs and a good book. Pretty typical for me, not much excitement here. Some nice flavors tonight, a spicy sweet salmon with a tangy salsa served with rice. If you’re lucky enough to have a crop of fresh peas, well it gets even better.

I hate peas but at this point, I’m practically stalking BHF.

@Joseph Nobles:
As a parent, I would NEVER have let her go. NEVER. Over my dead body.

@JSF: glad I am not the only one who hates peas, but I get the stalking thing. BHF is a FSMsend.

i shouldn’t browse this blob when i’m hungry. you guys kill me.
i think i’m gonna go with a variety of peppers sauteed with onions, garlic, and ginger, then i’ll add a few cage-free brown eggs and a splash of white wine to finish it off. this is a standard meal around here, and it gets made into burritos.
i’m just waiting for halftime to start.
SiubhanDuinne
@Joseph Nobles #2: That’s worrisome news. I’m always of two minds about would-be record-breakers. Applause and cheers for the vision and “can-do” spirit, b ut at the same time, does the quest to be the youngest/fastest/first bring avoidable risks? I hope this young woman is safe, because however dubious I may be about the wisdom of the adventure, I surely wish her no ill.

@Just Some Fuckhead: @SiubhanDuinne:
Okay, a little flustered…but I have a confession, I HATE cooked peas. But I love them raw – by the bowl full, right out of the garden, or throw them in salads.
Bad Horse's Filly
BTW – go Celtics! I’m from the age of Larry Bird, Robert Parrish and Kevin McHale. Those were some great games.

Love your kids, and encourage them to challenge everything. But damn, this just doesn’t make sense.

@Cat Lady: My dad told me one time when I was very young, “If I thought you were going to be a race car driver or a boxer I’d break your arms.”
Jokingly, of course.
I never knew what he meant til I became a parent. Now it makes perfect sense.
SiubhanDuinne
@BHF: I love raw peas, and peas in the pod, and split pea soup. I just hate cooked peas. It’s a textuure thing. I would substitute spinach or broccoli in your menu.
But OMG, everythinh else sounnds just amazing.

@Corner Stone:
lol. morans do it for me, too.

i won’t call them the leprechauns like they do on the lakers message boards.

Why on earth would you caramalize perfectly good salmon?
Bad Horse's Filly
@Ron Beasley: Because chocolate covered salmon is just wrong.

mickey kaus really has to keep an eye on his harem. or maybe now he is training them to attack union members and democrats. he’s gotta be jealous when lancelot has his horn in someone else’s ass. now that’s a true pet lover.

fish and chocolate? how dare you?

Le Menu sounds yummy as always, BHF. Question for the foodies. A local pub here serves a great pulled pork BBQ sandwich with a pineapple salsa. The salsa is really good. Has anyone ever made pineapple salsa? I’m a total grunge cook, chops, burgers, taters, grilling so I’m pretty clueless about anything more complicated than that.
Oh and I hate peas too! Ack!
SIA
@Cat Lady: No kidding. WTF is wrong with these people? They should not be parents. I can’t even take in the bottomless negligence involved in allowing that.
Joseph Nobles
BTW, I got that story from Twitter. As it turns out, it was Cole that had tweeted it. So I beat him back to his own blog to spread the bad news. Weirdness.
MBSS
@SIA:
i’ve made and eaten many a mango salsa. it’s standard at the local fusion fish taco joint here in my neck of the woods.
i’ve had good results with a straightforward mild-med tomato based salsa, and then add some chopped mango. i think sometimes these salsas can get too sweet, so i like some heat, salt, and savoriness, to offset the sweet. i would maybe add a bit of finely diced jalapeno to add some heat.
SIA
@Ron Beasley: Found this over at your blog. VERY funny. I’ve bookmarked the site, looks good.
Check this out!

@MBSS: It’s funny you should say that, when I was at that pub last they had sub’d the pineapple salsa for mango. The mango is good, but not as good. I think what made the pineapple work was it was sweet and hot, and was a good blend with the BBQ flavor. Kind of cut the BBQ, if you know what I mean.
But hey what do I know? Is salsa just cut up tomatoes with flavoring? (Guess I should start with google for the really dumb questions).
ETA crap I’m getting the sentences running past the margins into infinity again.

@SIA:
Here’s a pineapple salsa recipe I’ve used before it’s pretty good and there’s no cooking to it, just chop and mix. I always use fresh pineapple, it’s sooooo much better than canned. You could start with pineapple and add anything that you like, though.
I also make one with the tomatoes, fresh anaheim chili, jalepeno, red onion, garlic, paprika and ancho powder.
@Bad Horse’s Filly:
That salmon looks really good, I’m going to try it on the grill the next time I get salmon.
And to you pea haters – are you on crack? Peas, with the obvious exception of canned (yuck, yuck, yuck), are the taste of green. Cook them al dente and they are the best veggie ever. They were the only vegetable I liked as a kid (corn doesn’t count, it’s a grain, not a vegetable).
Bad Horse's Filly
@hovercraft: Click on my name that will take you to the site. WP has been acting up tonight, so keep trying.

Bad Horse’s Filly’s citrus salsa above has pineapple in it — and sounds delicious. So does the salmon. That combo I’m going to try.
We had turbot fillets tonite, grilled, with a lemon/green onion mayonnaise on top, and then the last few minutes broiled some panko/parmesan on top for crunch. Extraordinarily easy and very tasty.
But…my head is going to assplode. Some of my asshole relatives on FB are talking about what “animals” the Afghans are for killing people in a wedding party. “The Religion of Peace!” they’re saying. “They should all be killed like the cowardly terrorists they are” they’re saying. In the meantime, how many wedding parties has the US blown up? But, of course, when we kill people in a wedding party, it’s for good reasons, or something.
I’d rather think about recipes.
MBSS
all you pea haters simply need honey and a knife. wike wittle babies.

yeah, but we kill them at their wedding parties with drones, so it doesn’t count. it’s not murder, it’s just a video game high score.

Guys, Olbermann’s interview with Alvin Greene, the South Carolina Democratic Party senate candidate, is unreal.
WTH is Greene thinking?
SIA
@tammanycall: I haven’t seen KO’s interview, but I saw Greene on an earlier program. Something very strange there – maybe he’s a little “off”? Rep. Clyburn thinks he’s a plant.
@IndyLib: Oh, that sound really good too. I’m going to copy both recipes and try them. This will be a major advance in my culinary repertoire. :)
Just downloaded Firefox so I can avoid the blasted run-on sentences that go past the margins and far far away.

I’m with IndyLib. No such thing as a bad pea. I just wish I could find them fresh. At a few low points of my life, I’ve even been seen with an open can of Leseur and a spoon.
