    OK. He answered my question about the black woman calling into Dr. Laura, but as I ranted below–any minority that has anything to do with the current Republican Party and their ilk gets no sympathy from me. You watch them do that shit to everyone else, and you don’t think they are going to do it to you?

    This episode was funnier than the last, but he’s still more ha-ha chuckle funny to me than flat-out guffaw roars of laughter funny.

    FYI all, MSNBC is airing excellent, and poignant, live coverage now of the last US combat troops leaving Iraq.

    This is a good day, and I’m surprised MSNBC is the only outlet that seems interested in covering the importance of this moment, which has been a long time coming.

    @stuckinred: They should all be leaving. If the Iraqis can’t run their own country without us doing for them, then well, oh fucking well.
    We should never have went there in the first place, but if anybody thinks that anything would be any different after Saddam Hussein eventually would’ve died, well, you would be wrong.
    I was standing in Kuwait on March 20th, watching logistics units moving north past the PATRIOT battery that we were guarding, and I was thinking of my political science classes on colonialism and post-colonial states, conflict and nation-states, and government operations in counter-terror and anti-terror campaigns, and I thought to myself “nothing good is going to come from this. We’ll defeat the Iraqi army in the field, but what happens after that?”
    I was the most pessimistic guy I knew, and I was certain that we’d have 3,500 to 4,000 KIA and 15,000 to 20,000 WIA and be there five years. In seven years, we’ve had 4,700+ KIA and counting, 30,000+ WIA and counting.
    Christ, what a waste.

    @soonergrunt: I’m with you but it’s a milestone nonetheless. On the other hand, I was part of the first withdrawal of US troops from Vietnam in September 1969 and it was complete in April 1975.

    Re: The last combat troops leaving. If I get through tonight without bawling my eyes out it will only be through a monumental effort on my part. I had noticed an uptick in “homecomings” around here and thought that it was just my imagination, but obviously not. There has been at least one “homecoming” a week, with bedsheet signs everywhere. It does my heart good to know that the boys (and girls) are coming home at last.

    I’m glad he got to the point that always bothers me about these controversies, why do some whites feel that they are somehow being oppressed because they somehow can’t say nigger and coon as freely as black folks? Really, will their lives be complete if they can go somewhere in Compton and rap “Rat-A Tat Tat” without getting at least hard stares? Is that privilege really so important to have?

    Well, the way I see it and as he said, white folks have had hundreds of years to use that word neutrally but failed miserably. They should just accept the fact that it make take another hundreds of years before it becomes okay for them to use it freely.

    Yeah, that was pretty awesome. I wanted to go post it on my facebook and say, “see white people, this is why you can’t say … ” but, stymied again. Some arguments I can understand, but I can’t engage in. Sigh. It’s all good though. Being a woman means I have all kinds of historic outrages I can vent about!! Woo hoo!

    Of course, some of my ancestry is Swedish, and some is English, so I am sure there are tons of people who would justifiably tell me to STFU. Like the Finns, and the rest of the world. Sigh. Nobody gets free poutrage.
