A note from the commissioner:

Football is back! Hello everybody….MattT here, “the Commish.” It’s time to get the BJFL Fantasy Football League rolling again! And just in time….without a little gridiron distraction I think the Bachmann/Perry clash of idiocy is going to drive me nuts.

This year I’m going to cut back and only manage one league. It’ll be run a little differently too: for starters, fantasy teams will be knocking heads in one-on-one competition instead of comparing total points. I’ve made a few other tweaks as well – returning players take a look at the settings when you log in and give me any feedback.

I’ve already sent out invitations to the top finishers from last year’s 4 conferences….check the email you used last year. I also need to get in touch with the following managers, who qualified for this year’s league but who I’ve been unable to contact:
Avian Waves – the Parrotlovers
GrooveSDC – Burkean Cowbells
“Michael” – the Fuzzy Dunlops
If you want to play again this year, drop me an email by the weekend and I’ll send you the league info so you can sign up. The draft is pencilled in for the evening of 9/7, the Wednesday before opening Thursday.

I’ll hold the reserved slots until the weekend, then open unclaimed spots for general signup with preference still given to players from last year. Go ahead and email me if you want to play, and I’ll start building a waiting list. If you played last year mention your old team’s name.

I hope some others will step up to manage additional leagues for what I’m sure will be a greater number of players than I can handle. I’d be happy to consult with other Commissioners.

    I like head to head vs. roto, so I’m glad you made that change. If interest is overwhelming you/we may want to consider creating another league.

    BTW I’m assuming the format will be through Yahoo again, have you considered another platform? I never used any other one, but I had some issues with yahoo fantasy baseball.

    Honestly, I cannot think of ANYTHING more appropriate for someone like Cole to waste their time on than fantasy football. Not based on reality, does not accomplish anything. Requires no skill or intelligence. I mean it’s perfect.

    If I may be permitted to do a little league-whoring…

    My friend’s league needs players, at least 3 more, but preferably more. Rather than open it up to all the mopes at Yahoo, maybe I can persuade a few BJers to join. H2H, standard draft, and pretty much default positions and scoring (I’d have to check, but he might’ve tweaked stuff like missed FGs or something.). Draft is Saturday, Sep 3 at 7est.

    Thanks John for posting this! I have invitations out now to all the top finishers from last year, and a waiting list that will fill my league, with overflow.

    So, please no more emails to me for the waiting list. Mine is full. But, a couple of people have offered to run additional leagues….more to follow!

    By the way…..I’d mentioned last year and to a few people offlist the possibility of using BJFL as a fundraiser, with a league fee to be donated to an appropriate cause. That’s out, for this year at least – we’ll be playing for free again though I plan to come up with some kind of prize this time!

    @tulip: I tried ESPN Fantasy years ago, and preferred Yahoo. It’s the only one I’ve used in a long time now, and it seems to work pretty well. Last year, I think it was, Yahoo didn’t get the real time scoring going till the second week but it’s usually a reliable service and I don’t know of any that’re user-friendlier.

    This is an auction league, with a full IDP roster. For those of you who’ve only done snake drafts, or haven’t participated in an IDP league, this is a great chance to expand your enjoyment. Both auctions and IDPs are addictive. (The scoring for this league really emphasizes the defensive side of the line of scrimmage.)

    i love the auction drafts, but i don’t like idp. i think tackles are too arbitrary and can reward guys on bad teams who make tackles, or get credit for them, 7 yards from the line. i know, it sounds funny since most fantasy stats are arbitrary, but if anyone wants to do a standard scoring auction(more or less) league, perhaps with ppr if we need a twist. [email protected], and yea, its a nym there too, so if you just want to troll one of my free email accts i only check during ff season, have at it.
