Today in Assholes

This post is in: Gay Rights are Human Rights, Assholes

FacebookTweetEmail

Literally:

Arango’s excuse for posting pics of himself on gay/bi hookup phone ap Grindr—including one of him bent over, cheeks spread, senatorial asshole winking at the camera—isn’t as catchy as “hiking the Appalachian Trail” or “lifting your luggage.” Those two were pure poetry. But Arango’s excuse is delightful in its own way: Arango wasn’t looking to hookup with dudes, he was just documenting his weight loss regimen. (“Why, Senator Arango! Your asshole is looking so slim these days! You simply must share your workout routine with me!”)

Puerto Rican Senator Roberto Arango is, of course, a Republican who opposes gay marriage,  helped pass a ban on adoption rights for gay couples, and who intimated that his opponent was gay in a recent election.

Nobody’s more grateful for Arango than Phil Hinkle

An Indiana Republican state lawmaker resisting calls to resign after becoming embroiled in a sex scandal insists, “I’m not gay,” according to the The Indianapolis Star.
The AP relays background on the controversy:
The Indianapolis Star reported that emails suggest Republican Rep. Phillip Hinkle arranged to pay Kameryn Gibson up to $140 for “for a really good time.” The paper published emails between Hinkle and Gibson detailing a plan for them to meet at a downtown Indianapolis hotel.
The Star reported Hinkle didn’t contest the emails but said he was “aware of a shakedown taking place.”

I’ve been visiting the hometown for the past two weeks (leaving for Western New York again today) and I was waiting to see if someone stateside would get ahold of it. It’s been hilarious watching this unfold here in San Juan. Arango wasn’t just a Senator, he was Majority Leader in the Senate, and his party’s pretty much like the Massachusetts Democrats or, say, Oklahoma Republicans – the PNP (New Progressive Party) controls all branches of government right now.

(Quick primer: you can be a Democrat or Republican in Puerto Rico, but we have other parties – the Popular Democratic Party [PPD], which is pro-commonwealth; the New Progressive Party [PNP], which is pro-statehood; the Puerto Rican Independence Party [PIP], which is, well, pro-independence; and Puerto Ricans for Puerto Rico [PPR], which is essentially our equivalent of a Green Party. This dude was NPP and a Republican.)

. . . and yes, he’s (or was) my state senator (or now my parents’, since I’m officially living in New York now). Thanks for asking.

    @The Other Chuck:

Know what would be a good addition to the pie filter? One that also filters responses to trolls.

I was just thinking the same thing!

@WaterGirl: OMG, you are both so right. For fucks sake people stop feeding the troll. If you starve them of attention they go away.

Here is your step by step guide to dealing with trolls:

    1. See troll’s name
    2. Skip reading comment.

Rinse and repeat until offending troll dries up and goes away. Remember it only takes a drop of attention to keep around.

@BerkeleyMom: Well I am straight as pretty much straight goes, and I the amount of time in the day and night I spend thinking about straight sex is beyond unseemly in a fat, middle-aged fcuk such as I. Thus, I find your argument 100% compelling if 0% logical.

@Derf: As futile as attempting to teach as pig to sing.

    You’re the pig.
