Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

If you still can’t see these things even now, maybe politics isn’t your forte and you should stop writing about it.

If you can’t control your emotions, someone else will.

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

Let there be snark.

Democracy cannot function without a free press.

We know you aren’t a Democrat but since you seem confused let me help you.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

Bark louder, little dog.

Shut up, hissy kitty!

Every decision we make has lots of baggage with it, known or unknown.

Many life forms that would benefit from greater intelligence, sadly, do not have it.

You would normally have to try pretty hard to self-incriminate this badly.

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

“Just close your eyes and kiss the girl and go where the tilt-a-whirl takes you.” ~OzarkHillbilly

The press swings at every pitch, we don’t have to.

Mediocre white men think RFK Jr’s pathetic midlife crisis is inspirational. The bar is set so low for them, it’s subterranean.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Peak wingnut was a lie.

Dumb motherfuckers cannot understand a consequence that most 4 year olds have fully sorted out.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

Maybe it’s because I saw “My Fair Lady” last weekend and have been listening to a lot of show tunes all week, but I got not one but two fundraising emails from Marcus Bachmann today. It looks like the Bachmann campaign may be going bankrupt.

This proves that the grown-ups are still in charge of the Republican party. Good news for Mitt Romney!

I think it proves that Bachmann has been out-maled in the race for the wingnut vote.

All it means is that the Perry deployment worked as planned and the Koch brothers pulled their funding from Bachmann.

I thought I read a month or two ago that she was raising tons of money. Did Marcus blow it all on rentbois?

Listening to show tunes will get you fundraising emails from Marcus Bachmann? I have never been so glad to be allergic to show tunes as I am now.

I actually think that a good chunk of her voters will go to Rick Santorum. Though she’s probably down to about 5% of national support, so it won’t change much.

If you watch “La Cage aux Folles” does it mean Marcus will personally come to your home seeking donations?

Bachman is completely insane, as would be any notion she could be president. I wouldn’t say the grown ups are in charge of the GOP, but there seems to be some effort to control of how much rope to give the tea tards. I think that is why Boehner et al, turned over the debt ceiling limit raising to Obama until after the election.

They are in a delicate dance, seems to me, with feeding the monster they created, just enough red meat to keep them from turning on their masters, but not so much that mainstreams the politically suicidal ideas that Bachmann represents, and that crazy 27 percent of the voting public that the GOP must have to win.

I think people on both sides are underestimating the huge schism that currently exists in the GOP, that is manifested best by it’s Speaker of the House profoundly unable to pass rational conservative legislation without democratic votes, in a totally majoritarian chamber of congress.

I believe we will see this dark and deep schism more apparent and unveiled as we near election day, when efforts to keep it hidden will give way to the stresses of a POTUS election, with the details still dependent on who the wingers pick as the nominee.

And the paradox is, that whether the wingers pick someone who can compete in a general election, or someone like Perry, that sates the tea tard nihilism, will not serve to close this schism. It will only highlight which side is most disappointed with their lot.

The best part of My Fair Lady is “On the Street where you live” sung by Jeremy Brett. His Sherlock was the best in the world. Just like Marcus he was gay (or possible bi; dunno for sure; just like Marcus!!)

These reports are coming from the Galtian establishment propaganda organs Politico and NYPost, on the eve of the 3rd quarter fundraising deadline, which means they’re probably misinformation (rat-fucking) designed to dissuade donors from contributing.

This one’s my favorite song from My Fair Lady. It’s probably a favorite of Marcus’ as well:

    September 29, 2011 at 10:22 pm

@Big Baby DougJ: I said “probably misinformation”.

But they all do mass mailing on the eve of quarterly deadlines.

During 2006 election cycle, Hillary’s Senate campaign used to routinely send me urgent, dire, alarmist emails on the eve of every fundraising deadline, even though she had no competition and led in the polls by 50 percent.

Work’s been too slow lately, as in everybody worked just one (1!) day last week. Change is easier to make happen in fat times I think, so I’m waiting until it picks up. But I do have one other guy on board, which is a lot in a company of like 12 people. Yeah, I mean, I’m not organizing a coal mine or anything over here. Thanks for asking!
