What I don’t understand is why the Baltimore kicker came running out on the field late. There were only 11 seconds on the play clock when he reached the holder’s position, only 5 seconds left when he got in position, and the ball was snapped at the 1 second mark. It looked to me as if he never got set.

Tom Brady said it best about today’s win

“I sucked pretty bad today, but our defense saved us,” Brady said.

After successfully ignoring football for the last decade or so, this year I’m following the playoffs and am looking forward to watching the SB.

    I blame all of you.

    @Ken: Second to that.

There’s nothing like watching the Ravens lose. Nothing. I want the Browns to beat the Steelers. I want to see the Ravens lose in the most agonizing ways imaginable for all eternity. For now, this will suffice.

I only read the first few comments here, but don’t you people know that, other than the blocking, place-kicking is a three-man game? That was a shitty snap, low and outside, and it threw the timing off. This wasn’t like Scott Norwood’s miss, where the snap and hold were good, but Norwood’s plant foot was pointed too far to the right, causing him to kick too far to the right.

For chrissakes, Cundiff went to the Pro Bowl last year. Is he the greatest kicker ever? No. But not one goddamned kicker in the NFL misses like that unless he trips/slips, or the snap/hold throw shit off.

This is on the 49er coaches. #10 looked shaky even before the idiotic muff in the third quarter. Why he was out there and allowed to single-handedly lose the game I don’t know.

@burnspbesq: Oh, I see what you did there. Good work.

Congratulations Giants fans. I have to say I don’t get why kickers are so maligned. Like in the Pats-Ravens games, yes: the kicker missed, game over. But everyone else was involved in not scoring enough points to make that kick unnecessary. Sometimes I think that kickers are the DFHs of the NFL.

But never mind. The pertinent point is “Congratulations Giants fans!” As a Niners fan, I watched a great season, one that I didn’t expect to be so very good.

If Harbaugh isn’t Coach of the Year, there should be an investigation.

That is one motherfucker of a defense you guys have. Eli got hit 20 times. And if Ginn’s not injured, those two turnovers probably don’t happen.

You have a lot to look forward to in the next 2-3 years.

It’s understandable why a Steelers fan would want to crow about the Raven’s loss…I mean, after watching one’s team lose to the likes of Tim Tebow, one has to find solace wherever he can…

My take was that he was a bit rushed & the Patriots had 3 timeouts & I think the kicker thought Darth Hoodie would burn one to ice him & he didn’t.

@Ira-NY: Late to this, but yes, I had the same thought. Given that it just has to break the plane of the goal, doesn’t that mean he really only has to have possession for a millisecond? And I say this as a die-hard Pats fan.

That is one motherfucker of a defense you guys have. Eli got hit 20 times.

Agree for the most part. The Niner defense was pretty strong, and Eli was lucky on a couple of poor throws. But the most annoying thing was watching McKenzie (RT) playing flag football out there. “What, you mean that Smith guy can keep going after Eli after I block him one time? Are you SURE he’s allowed to do that?”

If the O-Con or line coach don’t have a little chat with McKenzie, they’re not doing their job(s).

But, yeah, the Niners look like they’ll be around for awhile.

@cbear: I noticed that, too. And didn’t BAL still have a timeout?

Even without one, kicking from 37 when ready is far better than kicking from 32 when hurrying.

Yet you’re the first person I’ve seen make that comment.
