Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Hi god, it’s us. Thanks a heap, you’re having a great week and it’s only Thursday!

American history and black history cannot be separated.

A tremendous foreign policy asset… to all of our adversaries.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

The low info voters probably won’t even notice or remember by their next lap around the goldfish bowl.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

Fear or fury? The choice is ours.

If rights aren’t universal, they are privilege, not rights.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

You would normally have to try pretty hard to self-incriminate this badly.

I swear, each month of 2025 will have its own history degree.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

I’m starting to think Jesus may have made a mistake saving people with no questions asked.

… pundit janitors mopping up after the gop

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

The real work of an opposition party is to oppose.

So how long do Thomas, Alito, Roberts, and Scalia stay on the court? I’m thinking a good, LONG time. Remember, Supreme Court justices live into their 90s.

The Reagan Revolution is comfortably, firmly, securely intact and rolling on thanks to our court system (especially SCOTUS).

And there’s nothing liberals can do about it. The conservative members of the court do what they want, when they want, how they want.

Our politics have been stupider than usual for the last couple of weeks (see above). Why is that?

I notice you didn’t mention Kennedy. He’s about to break your heart again, and I think you know it.

@Veritas: Interesting. I notice that you don’t mention Kennedy, who actually was nominated by Reagan. Scalia is 76 and clearly bored with the job. He’ll retire by 2020 at the latest. Supremes may live into their 90’s, but I can’t remember one who didn’t retire well before that.

ETA- I’m not responding because I think Veritas is posting in good faith, but it was interesting to take the time to look up the Supreme Court. The two newest liberals on the court are the youngest by a good margin, plus Obama has a good chance to nominate a new one, so we’re in better shape than I thought.

Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting is making the obviously laughable claim that Sunday morning talk shows are biased in favor of whites, men, and Conservatives. In what I’m sure is completely unrelated news, Rmoney is complaining about a “vast left wing conspiracy” in the media.

In the world of IOKIYAR, Rep. Vicky Hartzler’s (Missouri republican birther, Chinese microchips spying on us through our toasters, teh gay are icky) campaign manager criticized Cass County, Missouri Prosecutor and challenger in the 4th Congressional District, Teresa Hensley (D), for being beholden to trial attorneys because Hensley had raised campaign contributions from them this quarter (and, incidentally, outraised Hartzler). This, while Hartzler had contributions from a silk stocking law firm and trial attorneys in her latest FEC report. The stoopid, it burns.

We lost a long time Democratic seat to her in 2010?

@Mike Goetz: I’ve noticed flocks of conservative flying monkeys descending on liberalish blogs lately, flinging their poo everywhere.

Maybe the cash spigots have been opened. I don’t expect it to get better until after the election.

Sully is killing me today and it’s only 9 AM left coast time. Between his parroting the need to starve Granny and the poor and his multiple posts of Jennifer Rubin (who would really want to ask Jennifer Rubin her opinion on anything, especially Israel, anyhow?) I’m so over the bimbo. I guess it’s like passing a car wreck….you don’t want to but you have to look.

I never really paid Glenn Greenwald much attention, because he seems to be fixated on a set of priorities that don’t match mine.

But last night he tweeted some dumb shit, and he got insta-pissy with me when I disagreed with him. He turned his piss-storm into a 2,000 word flame against the New York Times, during which he never actually disputes any facts.

I’ve seen disingenuous conspiracy-theorist manufactured outrage before, but never so concentrated and from someone so self-important and self-deluded. So I waded into that particular pool today.

The president’s push to get the law passed “cost Obama a lot of credibility as a leader,” added Webb, who voted for the law, according to USA Today, which first reported his remarks.

Get it? In America, you lose credibility as a leader if you lead.

He thinks frisbees are to hold in your jaws as you run full full speed around the yard. Catch, retrieve, No thanks, he just wants to grab whatever and run.

He kept spraying me with the hose the other day, well spraying everything with the hose as he held it and ran around.

    @Veritas:

Your theory doesn’t explain why the challengers of the ACA went one-for-four in the couts of appeal.

The only current trend it does explain is the D.C. Circiuit’s persistent and unconscionable refusal to follow Boumediene in Gitmo detainee cases.

You think a large number of remarkably stupid things.

I like to stay as informed as I can. Just the other day Rand Paul said Obama had outlawed over 1,000,000 rifles. I am telling you, Obama has been busy as hell and all anybody is worried about is that he once ate a dog.

If these trolls are getting paid someone should be supervising. Will we someday find the ledger that shows who & how the republican party keep the ted nugent wannabes off skid row? (intential use of small case) What category of itemized deductions does this fall under?

Is there any truth to whether the admin can appoint more sc judges?
I’d swear I heard once that no where is it stated we can have ONLY nine -but that the pres could say “now we have 12” and appoint the rest…

    any idea?

    KILL ME NOW.

It’s really hard to believe that Republicans and their media enablers have not only been able to maintain a very high level of insanity for coming up to 20 years, but that they still manage to astonish me on an almost daily basis with some new craziness.

Is there a required course on suspending your disbelief in journalism schools?

America has turned into a nation of Morlocks. And the rest of the world, in Americans’ view, are Eloi.

This is not going to end well.
